Loss of sound when large battle happens in Cyro

    Hey folks,

    I have a few questions for those of you experiencing this problem:

    1) Roughly how many combatants are in the fight when you experience this? 5? 10? 50? 100?
    2) In which areas do you experience this problem? Just in keeps, resource points, or bridge choke points? Or anywhere there seem to be enough people fighting?
    3) What other performance issues do you note occurring, if any, while this happens? IE does the game also lag, do you notice any missing visual effects, etc?
    4) After leaving combat does your audio return to normal? If not, what sounds seem to not return as you would expect?

    It happens in 4 player dungeons as well. No lag, no missing visual effects. Leaving combat does not help. Only when everything has "died down" will sound return.

    1. Press L to go to "Alliance war", then click on the crossed sword icon.
    2. Choose your campaign.
    3. One is your home, one is your "guest"
    4. Once in Cyrodiil you are in the PVP zone. Take care.
    5. Fight a bit.
    6. Notice there's no sound.

    Devs, do note that you can NOT use Cyrodiil wayshrines to go out of the Cyro. You have to get back to your base and then take a wayshrine out. Many newcomers make that mistake, it's a common and no big deal.

    The performance recently has been absolute [snip]. Seriously how backwards can ZOS go? i mean the delays and lack of sound is [snip] atrocious.

    It happens in 4 player dungeons as well. No lag, no missing visual effects. Leaving combat does not help. Only when everything has "died down" will sound return.

    I do not experience in trials or dungeons. I did experience in Cyrodiil during large battles. At Alessia bridge, keep fights etc. Once battle "died down" sound returned. Lag/fps/ping are all normal as per for large PvP fights.

    1) large fights, usually 50+
    2) anywhere
    3) no other performance issues. Sometimes game music cuts out, only combat sound. Sometimes combat sound cuts out,
    only game music. Sometimes both combat sound and game music cut out.
    4) After leaving combat, sound does eventually return.

    I have not experienced this lately, but I mostly avoid large scale battles and retreat to IC anyway. This is one of the reasons. I have not had a complete loss of sound that I can remember, but I have not always been able to hear my abilities in large battles in the past. Not hearing whether my skills have activated and/or connected with the enemy is a suprisingly big issue for me.

    As I understand it from my guildmembers all loose sound when there is a bigger fight, lets say some 30+ around.

    1/ like around 25-30 people
    2/ every area where there are around 25-30 people in fight
    3/ cant cast ulti particularly, and other skills as well and strong lag
    4/after i leave the area or ppl are dead sound comes back and i can use all abilities but what i do often is just run far away from fight

    I'm not sure about the rest of you folks, but when the sound suddenly cuts out it's horribly disorienting for me and greatly impacts my ability to fight. I was unaware of just how much environmental impact sounds have in the game. I died to oils in a keep the other day at least partly because I heard no splashing and failed to notice the visual effect during the lag of a massive battle. Yeah...it was also due to my inattention but I clearly benefit greatly from sound as well as visual cues.

    Really hoping ZOS can fix this soon. I'm also hoping this isn't a deliberate ZOS experiment to see whether cutting sound during massive battles is an easy fix for reducing lag. Sometimes "easy" is just not the right thing to do...

    This should be considered a high priority issue, it`s not just cosmetic - doing PvP without being able to hear when someone is starting to attack you is pretty annoying. Audio cues are important for instance when using a siege and you can't see behind you.

    This makes the experience horrible. We need more urgency put into Cyrodiil issues. FPS and Sound issues when in big battles. Imagine how fun it would be to battle at 60fps with hundreds of players in the same area. We can dream i guess.......

    Still happening as of a couple days ago:
    1. 20+ but has to be in combat. Large groups simply staging don't cause sound loss.
    2. Everywhere. Keeps, resouces, overland. Quantity seems to be the deciding factor.
    3. No other known issues. Everything else seems to work normally, though it's harder to tell without the audible feedback, tbh.
    4. It seems leaving combat it will eventually come back, eventually. Sometimes you'll get partial sound return by putting some distance between yourself and the current battle (even if it's over). For instance, I've had some of my own casting effects be audible while still having complete or near complete silence from surrounding sources.

    It's almost as if they sound processor has so many streams incoming that is can't pick just one (or 20), so it opts on none at all.

    My guild has had some where we do not even have to battle, we just attempt to take a keep and boom, no more sound! Doesn't bother me but then again I'm used to not hearing anything.

    And again no one from ZOS speaks about this issue.

    Are you close to a solution? Do you have a fix ready? When will the fix come?

    Common guys we dont like being kept in the dark. And its annoying as hell when you have to fight with no sound. Its GAMEBREAKING!

    How many weeks since CWC came out? How many weeks we have to wait for a fix? I'm sorry I mean how many month? or even years??

    Hello, I searched the forums and only found this one thread.


    Zenimax people, bethesda or what ever, the total lack of sound when large battles and very distracting. I can't hear if I'm getting hit and or about to die.

    This not only happens in Cyrodiil, but also in trials with large groups of people and enemy monsters.

    Please, ever since you uploaded clockwork city this has been an issue.

    Don't you guys even know about it?

    Do any of you even play this game? No one ever, anywhere, ever see's a GM with their [Z] account playing with us. I suggest you group up with 12 zenimax employees and run nSO, then be sure to pull a lot of monsters in one corner. Then you'll see the sound will cut right out.

    It's cool and all to get a response to this issue, but I'm worried nevertheless. We had this exact same bug before. Also ... shouldn't some of the folks at the office be able to communicate these answers? This isn't exact difficult to reproduce; just log into Vivek and in 5 minutes there won;t be any sound.

    Stop the grind! Get rid of stupid events and daily-quest gallore. Get rid of "have a chance of 1 in a million to get a piece of 1 in 30 to get a stupid motif or pet... wtf..."
    And at this point just remove all classes and have everyone choose their set of skills. then balance accordingly to skills always used vs. skills never used.

    • Fix Volendrung (spawn location - weapon white on the map causing the wielder to keep it forever - usable with emperorship)
    • Remove / Change CPs System, remove current CP/noCP campaigns and introduce one 30days with lock, one with no locks
    • Fix crashes when approaching a keep under attack because of bad / wrong rendering prioritization system
    • Change emperorship to value faction score points and not alliance points - see this and this
    • Fix long loading screens (mostly caused by players joining group out of rendering range)
    • Add 2 more quickslots to the wheel or add a different wheel for sieges weaponry only
    • Fix Balista Bolts not dealing damage on walls or doors if deployed at a certain place
    • Release bigger battlegrounds with 8 to 16 players per team and only two teams
    • Fix the permanent block animation - see examples : link1 link2 link3 link4 link5
    • Gives players 10 minutes to get back into Cyrodiil after relogging / crashing
    • Add a function to ignore the Claiming system of useless rewards
    • Improve the Mailing System / Rewards of the Worthy stacking
    • Assign specific group sizes to specific campaigns (24-16-8)
    • Make forward camps impossible to place near objectives
    • Make snares only available from ground effects abilities
    • Change emperorship to last minimum 24hours
    • Fix body sliding after cc breaking too quickly
    • Remove Block Casting through Battle Spirit
    • Fix the speed drop while jumping - see video
