Yeah it was realllly jarring! Like he's this confidante and friend of High King Emeric... and MOLAG BAL is his "master" who he gives an incredibly powerful and dangerous artifact to for SAFEKEEPING in COLDHARBOR???? WTseriousF???? There has GOT to be something weird going on there and if we don't get a good vampire-centric DLC one of these days that explains it all I will be so mad! LOL

Here we go again, Verandis stanning/explanation of the questline incoming.
Verandis is very much a Good Person between a rock and a hard place.

Verandis calls Molag Bal his "master" because he was originally turned by Bal, and doesn't get any say in the matter. Ultimately, he's been trying to distance himself from Bal for probably centuries - Gwendis brings this up, when you're at the Doomcrag, to highlight how desperate he is - but all vampires have an intrinsic connection to those who turned them.

As he explains on (in??) the Doomcrag, the artifact that I'm totally forgetting the name of (henceforth, Artifact) was corrupted by his vampiric energy. That's the whole basis for the area's quest. If you were to destroy the Artifact on Nirn, it would corrupt all of Rivenspire and turn them into bloodfiends. So the solution is to not destroy it, right? But you can't just leave it there, else the next power-hungry idiot would start the whole damn thing over.

So, the solution is to move the Artifact off Nirn. To, say... maybe an extraplanar space. A Daedric plane, even?

And because of his connection to Bal, he just so happens to have a hotline to such a space. It's NOT something he takes lightly. He's strapped for time since after killing Montclair the Artifact is a ticking time bomb and it was the only solution. Molag Bal is the Lord of Domination, but one thing he is known for is treating those who "serve" him well. Mannimarco was treated just fine until he decided to betray him. So Verandis makes a bargain with Bal - he takes the Artifact off Nirn, and Verandis comes with it. So Bal gets to "dominate" the man who's been trying to escape him for centuries. Bal doesn't see any issue with this - he's performing a favor, getting something in exchange, and getting the personal satisfaction - so he agrees to it. Verandis sacrifices himself to save the people of Rivenspire. It's nothing but noble, taking into consideration that the world of the Elder Scrolls is many, many shades of gray morality.

I totally agree. The Rivenspire storyline and the Wilderking storyline are my two favorite in the game. You really care about the characters. Overall, the music, in this game, is the best music of any game I ever played. I can't believe that so many of my friends literally just turn the music off. (How do you know the bad guys are coming?)

Yup, my favorite arcs too. When I was doing AD i was pretty bored until I got to Greenshade, then everything changed.

This is my all time favorite zone and it is extremely underrated. The scenes, the ambiance, the lore, and the zone design make it so riveting in its features. The appearance of the mountains with insane red lightning blasting off and Crypt of Hearts overlooking in the distance makes this zone so good it's criminal.

The only complaint I have is that Vampires should be sensitive to light. They are in Morrowind (I don't recall seeing any in Arena or Daggerfall, and I never played Oblivion or Skyrim).

do not confuse Porphyric Hemophilia (In Morrowind and Oblivion) with Sanguinare Vampiris (Skyrim) and Noxiphilic Sanguivoria (here).

The 2 above implies vamps are sensitive to light, while the third no.

Speaking of the Gold Coast - the approach to the DB sanctuary, when riding from the wayshrine... Best. Entrance design. Ever. You cannot see the're a gap there until you're right next to it. It's as if the mountain splits up as you approach. And you can't see the door either until you're well into that small corridor.

I agree the place is very well designed, but I also think the bad idea was to play DB internal music in other delves too. I'd like this DB place to have an own unique track, not available to play in other random caves. Fix it ZOS please, keep the place unique with unique sounds.

Personally, I think that the Vampire/Werewolf Shrines for the Daggerfall Covenant should be and need to be moved to Rivenspire.

    It would just... fit better.

I love when you get closer too. The atmosphere drastically changes; you go from a farm town getting ready for war to a desolate road where it's spooky quiet. Even that one NPC mentions this.

It's actually by design. The ESO sound guy once explained that they like to rotate some of the songs between zones, so lesser used music can be heard by more people. It also make the older zones sound a bit more fresh.

I agree it can sometime sound out of place, but it's not a big deal. To be honest, I play almost all the time with music disabled. I only re-enable it when I want to hit one of those special zones, and I've got my headphones on, for a full immersive experience. I did it for the DB DLC, as well as the Morrowind chapter.

As an AD loyalist I didn't get to Rivenspire until quite a bit into the game back in the days when you had to follow the strict zone order. But when I finally quested there I was blown away by the quality of the quests especially in the main zone story line.

It's probably the best questing zone in ESO bar none. (And having Necropotence there doesn't hurt for your Warden or Sorc.)

I Wholeheartedly Agree, ESO Was the best thing that I ever bought & played.
If you see me anywhere. Know that I am sitting back with a bag of popcorn, watching as ESO burns the goodwill of its player base with practices that only disrespects the players time like it did to me and many others...

If a game does not respect your time, best thing to do is move on from it and find something else.

I found the zone to be rather generic. I've seen this sort of thing countless times (granted its good just not all that original). The zone for me that has stuck with me was Alik'r. I loved the main story in that one and the desert setting itself. I remember once I finished it I sent /feedback on what a great job they did there. It was something I haven't seen a lot of because at the time vampires were already overstaying their welcome. Sentinel is still one of my favorite towns. With Rivenspire I got almost exactly what I expected including the big reveal about one of the main characters. Its not terrible by any stretch just spooky mountains and towns overran by vampires seems unoriginal in comparison to the Alik'r desert. And still a little upset that the final conclusion bugged out on me so I never got to hear or see exactly what transpired at that last turn in just not enough to sour me on the preceding experience. I felt like I learned something about this ES culture that Rivenspire did't provide as I still have to bring my previous RPG experiences to understand the Bretons who seem like a generic fantasy medieval mix.
