This is so incredibility stupid, 40 for 1 retrait is outrageous, I've already spent almost a year looking for something and now I have to spent (does math in head, really bad math?) A WEEK or so? to get all these crystals for ONE item. We want to remove the heavy grinding, 10 crystals I can do, I think it should be like 5 but I'll settle for 10

Transmutaiton was introduced as an ALTERNATIVE way to get the item perfect, so normal it's not that easy and faster to get it.. in other words you can grind but in any dungeons to get it, the introduciton of transmutation wasn't the goal for you to being BiS geared on all your toons in one day. If you are unhappy wiht this fact you can grind crytals in any dungeons, trials, arenas, you can still do the old way, grinding the same dungeon 200 times instead of 40-50 times other dungeons. And always have the chances when you farm that perticuliar items in a group, that it drops on someone elses and he does actualy need it, as it happened twice for me with sunder Dagger, specialy in the trait i wanted it.... so i rather grind crystals, less frustrating and less monotaneous and repetitive.

    General feedback:

Please give the Transmutation Station the ability to change an item's motif in addition to its trait!

Or at least give us another station that has that function.

I was ecstatic to hear about an upcoming transmutation system, but was very disappointed when I learned that it was only going to change traits and not motifs. Farming to get the right trait is honestly not that big of a deal, so changing traits is not particularly necessary. It's more of a nuisance than anything.

But not being able to actually use most of my hard earned, expensive, and awesome looking motifs is so frustrating, especially given the general inferiority of crafted gear compared to dropped sets. Please, please, please let us change crafted and dropped items' motifs!

    That's....being....worked....on.

It's called transmogrification ("transmog" for short) and is totally and completely different. They've mentioned this repeatededly, over and over and ovee, even in this thread alone.

It's coming, just not in this patch.

Hello, could you please link any recent mentioning by the developers on being able to change your gear style ?

I'm pretty sure it's in one of the current PTS patch notes threads. They had somebody ask the same thing many times, "if they were going to do transmogrifying with this", and they had to clarify that.
It's funny how much it comes up and how little people read of the patch notes to figure something out. Certain people just picked out one word and assumed it meant something completely different than intended.

But yes, changing gear looks is coming eventually. It may even be with the next chapter, which is my guess.

Regarding the cap on the number of crystals to 200.

It may be that ZOS are being cautious at this time of introduction but really I do not see any practical reason to have a cap.

All crystals recieved are account bound and once an item is modified it becomes account bound too (if it was not already).

If there "needs" to be a cap then lets have something that works with a player and takes into account the number of characters they have and their play style (for instance characters set up for Trials, PVP, PVE, vMA, etc).

In this case, allowing 40 crystals (1 item) per account character seems workable to me.

You could start with the proposed cap of 200 that would increase by 40 with character 6 to 14 but this could be qualified by needing these later characters** to have achieved level 50 before the increase is applied.

In this way there is a control over the number of items that may be modified at any one time from an amount of banked crystals and it is also scaleable to individual players.

    Edit:
** This implies that 5 chars would already be at level 50 for a 6th character achieving level 50 to then qualify.

Your numbers are a bit off, by the way. It's now 50 crystals per trait, with a cap varying based on if you're ESO+ (because they totally needed another shiny). If you are, it's a 200 crystal cap, yes. If you aren't, it's 100.

I was super excited when i heard they were adding this into the game...
But I hate the way they implemented this system so much!
It's a complete dumpster fire, just like the way they implemented Mundus stones for housing... Ludicrously beyond the point of being hilariously expensive, & doesn't even remotely provide enough benefit.

Gold pvp Crystals should give 50 gems just like on PTS. and tbh it should take 25 OR LESS to change a trait, the limit also needs to be 10xed and the gems made tradeable... once again ZOS takes an awesome idea and finds 31 ways to make it suck =(

Alot of people hate doing dungeons (myself included) & i can never find groups for trails (not that ied want to cuz i dont like them either), and it takes way to long to get enough gems to change even 1 piece of gear let alone a whole sets worth. or even worse than that multiple sets..

Look the last thing i wanna do is come on the forums and complain/unload all this negativity but i honestly dont know any other way to say what needs to be said and have it mean or convey how badly its affecting the players...

this system was suppose to alleviate the grind and cancer that is forcing people to do doungens and pve content who dont like doing said content.. not make it worse!
Ontop of that 85% of the sources to get the dumb crystals are pve related..
News flash zos, NOT EVERYONE LIKES PVE. in-fact ied go as far as to say only about 25-35% of the game likes pve..

You have PVPers, Role players, Housing nuts (im guilty of this), market tycoons (and this), recipe/achievement collectors, and crazy maxed out crafters like me who just wanna craft all day or pay gold for items we need....
But you just gave all of us a huge middle finger with this new system by implementing it they way you have... I hate pve and im not alone...

    In summary:
The drop amount is 50x too low.
Cost to change trait 3-4x to high.
Not enough ways to obtain the geodes.

Can i ask you something zos... what were you thinking when you decided this would be a good way to implement this?
Ugh tbh idk why im even writing this.. it wont get fixed =/
    w/e im out.
    back to crafting.. ciao0/

Quality of life changes that desperately need to happen in order make ESO Better for everyone!
Forget new content for awhile & forget adding new DLC, this is a list of what is actually needed in the game.
1: Change the ESO+ Housing item limit from 2x to 3x. (preferably 4x)
2: Add a working Exit wayshrine item for housing.
(Needs to be added as a special achievement item for finding all wayshrines in the game, & should use the same slots & operate the exit shrines in cyro, where you cant port to them but you can use them to leave the house and go anywhere u want)
3: Add a GUILD Banker & Store NPC for housing.
(willing to pay 5k crowns if it does both Or 2.5k crowns each if they split them and have 2 Npcs(1 for each banker/store))
4: Add Writ boards and Writ Drop-off's for housing.
(willing to pay 2.5k crowns for each board+1k crowns per Drop off box=11k total crowns
5: Cut the crown price of Mundus stones IN HALF, and refund the difference in crowns to the few people who have already bought them.
(If Zo$ was my dog, ied roll up a news paper and smack you in the nose repeatedly for this. 4k per stone x13 stones? what were you thinking?!!
6: Multi Attuneable crafting stations. (this one change will solve so many issues with item limits. Make it so you have to 'feed' existing attuned tables to the new station to unlock its drop down effects. This kills 2 birds with 1 stone.)
7: Change the amount of transmutation gems needed to change a trait from 50 to 10, Increase the drop rates of all Geode sources by 10x.
8: Release more crafting recipes in the game for housing, Dark elf bed of coals/Outdoor and indoor fires/Orcish Column Brazier/Imperial Forge/Beehives/Grape vinyards/smaller greenhouse than the one currently ingame (half the size), We know they are already in the game. These were on the original housing PTS then like 60% of the good stuff disappeared when housing hit the live server.
9: ESO+ life time membership option.
10: Permanent craft bag unlock for crowns.
11: REMOVE BIND ON PICKUP FOR EVERYTHING EXCEPT QUEST ITEMS! PLZ ABOLISH THIS TRASH RESTRICTION!!! Change all current non quest BOP items to BOE. PvPers don't like being forced to run pve for gear, and pve-ers don't like being forced to run pvp for their gear either. The solution is so simple let people run the content they like and trade their drops on the open market..
12: Add New Fishing rods that you can unlock with bonuses for catching rate fish. spending 6 hours trying to get ONE blue fish using all of the buffs currently available is cancer, especially when you have to do this for 12 fish per zone times 40+ zones. In-fact just overhaul fishing totally and make it like Farcry 5 where you KNOW exactly which holes and locations the each of the rares will spawn. Make the T2 bait ACTUALLY & NOTICEABLY WORK, and combine it with better rods & better fishing related food buff so we can just reel in the rare fish like crazy. Even with all that its still gonna take a week or more of grinding to get all the fish, but thats better than a LITERAL FREAKING YEAR of fishing just for a housing boat item that doesn't even do anything...
13: Playable Games inside houses (basically just make all the decorative game furnishings actually intractable so we can play against other players. This would give a nice bump to housing utility and community building, RPers would also probably appreciate this).
14: A 'Port to Guild House' Option on the main guild page.
15: Add Functional Things to housing/guild halls that your guild can contribute to unlock as a group effort. An example of stuff would be like a 5% damage buff during overland content for all guild members, or buffs for dungeons/trails. Another example would be unlock tokens for people with super hard to get achievements like someone with the grand master fisher, they could donate a token to the guild that unlocks usable fishing plots inside the guild that the GM/House owner could place down. This would then let people travel to the guild hall and collect a Daily account Limit from housing harvesting nodes. Nothing crazy that would break the economy, just like 30 or so resources from each daily harvest able nodes for each of the skills. It would be even better if they were special enhanced versions of the normal ore/wood etc. that gave a refining bonus for tempers like double the chance to get tempers. (double the chance to get tempers on such a small amount of resources wouldn't actually make a big impact on economy, but the COOL factor would be off the charts so i see no reason why this couldn't be done).
16: Solo Dungeons, Much like solo trials this would be a 1 person equivalent of a 4 person dungeon. It would be even cooler if you could have your new companion NPC come with you on these, but we will have to see how good that companion system is first.

I know Transmutation will be a good thing to most, but should it, or should it not, Include Style Transmutation.

Style Transmutation Could Work Similarly to the transmutation of item traits except for a few unique key differences:
    • It will require that you already know the style motif page or book to transmute into the selected style (we can use barbaric as an example.)
    • You will need transmutation crystals just as you would when changing an items trait.
    • It will require the style material (Copper in this case to transmute the item in particular to barbaric style)
    • Monster Helmets & Shoulders will not be able to have their style transmuted. (But can still have the trait transmuted.)
    • Jewellery will not be transmutable as ZOS staff have said when they first introduced transmutation in the PTS.

This could make transmutation more viable since they will only allow a certain amount of transmutation crystals to be carried at once. (Which is 100 for normal players & 200 for ESO+ Subscribers.)
I know what you di-Iddly did... (you would be wise not to do that again during a time when Suspicion in the gaming space is at an all time high.)
by not actually revealing real drop tables in the game for all items, you only prove what has been proven with proof of concept that you can/will manipulate item drop chances based on certain elements performed by the player.

    The answer is NO.

These two things should be completely separate.

one is an in-game combat benefit major change to RNG drop rates grinding for traits etc... it is an alternative power-up mechanic.

The other is none of those things. none at all. not one bit. its like saying shouldn't nuclear reactors also make applesauce.

Gear motif change is cosmetic only. no in-game combat yield or benefit.
gear motif change is not current random at all, it is either controlled by player for crafting or set by type. So this is not providing an alternative way to get something in game but locked into RNG but is adding a brand new capability.

gear motif change does not need to be limited to combat gains... specifically crystals - that are keyed to the in-game combat power up trait controls.

These are two completely different things and fortunately ZOS realizes this and is doing them as two different things not one linked thing as you suggest.

I actually think the drop rates are pretty decent. Just by doing my normal activities over the course of the first week I managed to acquire 87 crystals, almost enough to do full re-traits. I only went into Cyrodiil for 2 days out of 7 and that was by far the most advantageous, amounting to 32 crystals. 31 crystals came from dungeons (random normal daily and a few geodes from bosses) and another 22 from vMA - 3 runs and 2 leader board rewards; 2 from characters that had just turned 50 and handed in their undaunted quest. In my guild people who actually farmed them made over 200 and already re-traited several items. I do think the fact that the number of crystals scales with the number of characters you have is a good thing, since the more characters you have, the more gear in sub-optimal traits you would need to re-trait. Also, minding the fact that the limit is only 200, the drop rate is sufficiently low that those crystals don't go to waste when you acquire more but you are already at the limit. I've noticed that not all content gives them as geodes. For example vMA gives them directly, from the end chest. I had to check the currency tab of my inventory to actually see that I got them. Probably due to the fact that geodes have a randomness element, though it's not a very strong one. For example out of 8 gold geodes in Rewards for the Worthy all rewarded exactly 4 crystals, while out of 28 green geodes rewarded by random normal dungeons, all gave just one crystal; I also got a blue one from a boss that gave 3. One thing that can be done is to smooth the curve a bit, so that higher numbers do pop up more often, but the base number is sufficient.
