Am I alone in disliking Naryu?

OK, I'm probably going to get some flames for this, but I think Naryu Virian is a colossal Mary Sue whose every action seems designed to advertise her own awesomeness, while making our characters look like blundering idiots. Does this woman ever fail? Is there nothing she can't do? Nobody she can't get into bed? She was mildly annoying in her original base game quests, but Morrowind has taken her to a whole new level of over-the-top. I mean, "Mother of Blades", really? :s

I also can't stand the way the dialogue is written to force the idea of sexual tension with our characters. I'm not interested, and I wish there was the option to tell her as much.

Anyone else with me, or a I alone in not being a fully paid up member of the Naryu fan club?

Khajiit is not entirely a fan of the grumpy elf knifey lady either but she seems the natural choice among existing characters to be in Vvardenfell.

I'm so so on her, I like some aspects but hate others. So you're not alone.

Her need to make everything innuendo and flirt with everything makes me cringe a little, as you said I am also a little annoyed there is no way to make your characters not interested in her.

Her kick butt best of the best side I can kind of accept, but constantly having other NPC's tell you how great she is when your character has literally done all the work is a bit like "really?" for me.

I feel her fan admiration may have elevated her to a place where she become a little too over the top for some.

Would love to know the writers feelings on it all, but I don't know who wrote her. :(

A Mary Sue is a character that is the epitome of innocence and can do no wrong. Naryu is the embodiment of wrong. She's the Morag Tong's head honcho of Contract Killing and she does it without remorse. If your name happens on a piece of paper, she'll put a knife in your throat without hesitation.

Besides she's not all that. Don't you spend a large amount of time during the Deshaan questline doing all the work for her?

That's not ever been the definition of Mary Sue I have known. I've always gone off what's on the Mary Sue test site.

It would be interesting for someone to run her through that test, but I feel you would have to have a much firmer knowledge of her story than I do.

I can't stand her snooty voice and attitude. I hope we have seen the last of her.
The constant sexual innuendo also gets on my nerves. I hate the overabundance of the word "cringe", but that's what I felt during her last lines in the Balmora questline.

But then I also don't like Malukah, so I'm a barrel of unpopular opinions.

Also, about this "doing all work for NPC". It is the game design. To be honest, out of notable NPCs, only Kurog picked up a sword and fought beside us at some point. Rest are more or less the same. And if this disappoints you, wait to see how founder of mage's guild behaves.

Eh, I kinda liked her more in the base EP questline - she had Varon (her mentor) helping her out in Deshaan, and in Eastmarch she mentions something about that being her first solo contract. She felt more like a promising young member of the Morag Tong than an accomplished legendary assassin, and the cocky attitude made sense from that point of view.
I still like her enough, mind you, but I'd pick Razum-dar over her any day if I had to choose. :p

She's one sick cooky, and she knows it. A real psycho.

I dislike that type of personality intensely, especially as an ally.

If we do eventually have the chance to get jiggy with her it's my Argonian who's going in there first.

Sure, but they also recognise your work as well as other NPC's around. From what I've seen so far Naryu suffers the issue of every NPC saying how great she is and generally ignoring your part in events.

Most of the time it's "Hero you go do this whilst I do this other thing" only to meet up with her slaying someone in a super "awesome" way then tell you how great she is before twisting your reply into innuendo.

Sure she doesn't ruin the entire expansion or make the game unplayable, but there are some of us (I guess me and OP thus far) who just find her character irritating and too much.

No you aren't the only one. For the same reason that different people will have positive and negative views on almost any character in any narrative construction (game, movie, book etc.).

She certainly does fail (spoilers for Balmora questline)
In fact she spends half the Balmora questline with an out-of-control apprentice who she ends up having to either kill...
or beat to within an inch of her life. That, to me, is definitely a fail.

Her attitude and predilections are about what I would expect given her race, age and area of origin, based on interactions with other NPCs and the texts available in-game (Barenziah, anyone?).

I quite enjoy her character, even when she takes an action that my character definitely wouldn't that sets them at loggerheads.

She was one of my favourite characters in the base game but after Morrowind she turned into just another boring npc that has me roll my eyes about almost everything she says or does. I have nothing against arrogant or confident people but she's just too over the top and other people's adoration towards her seems just unjustified. Also she treats me like an idiot. I'm pretty sure I remember Ashur saying that she mentioned me being dumb. That most of the player's lines are written like you play a potato doesn't help much, to be honest, but still. Just more reasons why I find her so annoying.
Didn't bother finding her after the Balmora quest line so I have no idea what the talk about sexual tension's about.

I am more tired of being called Hero than anything else. Still, I blame it on design, not how I think some NPC should behave.

After playing her questline the way I did, she doesn't strike me as the perfect person that is awesome and never fails. It felt the opposite.
Naryu is just one character and they decided to go with her, especially with her links to the Morag Tong even in the original EP storyline :P

This was one of the worst questlines I have played in ESO I am sad to say.
It's not that the writing or events were bad, it was that I was given no choice to not partake in her clearly stupid ideas and plans. Sure you can make the "don't do the quest" argument but everyone wants to experience all the content.

Just feel that one could have been much more enjoyable with alternative choices on who you worked for in each part, especially when you only ever have the option free slaves in Morrowind.

Any way, back on topic. Grrr Naryu.

This is something I heard as well. It also seems like her character went straight up bipolar.

She used to at least respect your compitency in DB and the base game. From what I'm hearing she seems to do a complete 180 and insult and belittle you at every turn. Maybe it's ment to be the 'morrowind' hero and not the vestige but what sense does that make?
