softcaps are the worst thing that could happen to ESO right now. Literally kills build and class diversity.
You mean like how soft caps allowed hybrid builds and other novel build styles without completely gimping you for not just building in the direction of min maxing stat/dmg/crit/pen?

Yeah, soft caps totally kill diversity

This is what soft caps look like:

    VAeQwYN.jpg

Soft capped health, magicka, spell damage, spell resistance and magicka recovery. Everyone had these stats because they were so easy to obtain. That isn't diverse.

It's diverse because generally speaking since stat ceilings didn't matter generally speaking you had alot more freedom with actual rotation and gear. Yes there was a 'proper' way to do it but you could also do it reletively well with another setup, allowing for personalization.

You can do the exact same thing right now, only that you aren't punished for specing into something, sound much better to me.
You wanna run julianos instead of bsw? fine you can do it, you will lose about 2/3 k dps, it's not like your dps is halved.

Or is the diversity you are speaking like running stam sets on magicka build or vice versa effectively because you have soft caps, and by using a full magicka setup you would hit those caps? To me this sound like ***. No serious mmo has something like that, some builds are better then others, end of story.

Simple solution and I hope ZOS doing it:

Just increase the light armor passive, which reduces magicka cost for each piece wearing, by 3%/each.

    Vice versa for medium armor.

    Results:

    - pve fixed
    - heavy armor ressource nerfed in pvp compare to la and ma

NP, thats it, NP for fixing your game.

The easiest way to equalize all builds without actually the need to alter individual skills too much is just to a cap on how much damage mobs/bosses can take per second from all sources. Its lazy, but effective. Caps on builds will not be needed then.

Meh, who can really say what will effect what how so early. My initial reaction is that it is good for my dps NB because it has much better resource sustain and return than the other classes currently beating my dps by chunks. Given all the other changes that will come who really knows anything now though.

One thing I will say is that boy wasn't Cyridiil so much more fun during the test event with no CP out there (OK, demise of AOE caps may have played a big role in this as well). CP continues to have just been a terrible idea. This coming from a guy with more than 1040 of them. The net effect of CP is that it is a barrier to new and returning players, provides no "progression" for serious players because we all have them all, makes it take a lengthy CP respec to change a toons role, and makes things much more difficult for the devs to balance because with CP you can push things a long way one way or another. Terrible idea then, terrible idea now.

Anyhow, all changes must be judged in relation to eachother. Now is not the time for carping about this. The time for carping is when we are all good and settled into a set of new changes and see what is off. Now is the time to say that sorcs with pets do crazy OP dps in fights where they work, not that you hate a CP change 6 months down the road.

Oh, and end cheat engine (I would be remiss to ever have a post and not include that.)

I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

Honestly sustain took for me his biggest hit at the introduction of Imperial City (and especially for me as healer for almost 3 years) :
    - Willpower and Agility sets
    - Molag Kena monster set
    - SPC set, must have for healers with no regen on it
    - and the nail in the coffin, the values on the enchant between VR14 and VR16 (legendary enchants ):
    • VR14 Cost Reduction Glyph was 200, went to 199, VR16 is 203 1.5/2% increase
    • VR14 Regen Glyps is 163, VR16 is 169 4%increase
    • VR14 Spell/Weapon Power Glyph is 133, VR16 is 174 31% increase

And now, because of the Power creep, they intend to nerf all the corresponding CP ?
I really hope not because as healer i'm already feeling as a living battery (bubbles, more bubbles please :( ), forced to use some sets for a long time now, didn't craft a single set for my healer since i got SPC (IC went out in august 2015 !), not using a single monster set on my healer (no good monster set for healing, and with mandatory resto/destro staff, no room for them).

And to add to this, healing passives and healing Ultimate of the Warden seems better than the Templar ones (i have to wait to see the morphs of the skills to fully judge). At first view the only skills who don't have a better version for PvE HM trials are Shards and BoL (less sure for this one)

lmao, if you add soft caps in the game right now you are basically killing off about 40 or so sets and will pretty much shift all magicka and stamina builds to focus on one set to be the saving grace, racials will be useless too. But at least we get play it your way hybrid builds, right?

Yeah, soft caps totally kill diversity.
You act as if removing the soft caps didn't make previously viable sets unviable either. I don't see why I should be concerned which precious set isn't going to be BIS when we are discussing the issue of game balance and play style diversity. I guess you couldn't give a rats ass about hybrid builds being viable, but your personal preference does not magically make being shoehorned into fewer play styles a good thing.

Soft capped health, magicka, spell damage, spell resistance and magicka recovery. Everyone had these stats because they were so easy to obtain. That isn't diverse.
You guys are being overly simplistic with your argument. Similarity in character sheet stats =/= no diversity in builds. The soft caps being what they were meant that many of what would today be considered unoptimal sets were in fact viable because you would still reach the soft caps. Soft caps are not hard caps. Once you were soft capped in the key areas you could either push further against the diminishing returns or spec some into your utility stats (stam/stam regen for mag builds, ect).

Removing soft caps has simply pushed "build variety" in the direction of building to extremes:
    • Max primary stat + dmg + crit on dps builds
    • Max health trollplars
    • Max regen rolly pollies
    • Max mitigation troll tanks
Then proc sets on top of this simply exacerbates the whole issue of balance.

    ( ... snipped video links ...)

Removing soft caps + adding the CP system and nerf after nerf after nerf that have been slapped on as bandaid fixes for that mess have succeeded in pushing us to just having destro & dual wield playstyles left, with dual wield losing out more and more just about every update (poisons, 8% dmg boost on destro, incoming siphoning CP, ect).

Please, go ahead and explain to me how I have more options in my playstyle with the current system?

I don't believe giving everyone the same stats is a good way to create diversity. I agree that the recent changes have been mostly bad and are forcing us into narrow playstyles, but lack of soft caps is not the problem. Zos can't nerf or buff in small measures, that is the problem. The 8% buff to destro was ridiculous, nerfing dual wield was ridiculous, proc sets are ridiculous, heavy armour passives are ridiculous etc. They have a ham-fisted approach to balance, and it gives off mixed messages.

Soft caps have been gone for a long time and the game has changed too much since then to go back. There are so many other things that could be done instead, like undoing some of the ridiculous recent changes, but also just tinkering with the math behind cp so that diminishing returns are more harsh, or small buffs to things that need love. We need regular, small balance changes, not massive overhauls every 6 months. Going back to soft caps would be a massive overhaul, again, and I just want them to fix what we have.

I can show you the build I ran in 1.5, a one handed shield/medium armor stamina dk back before people complained about stam dks being ***.

I stacked stamina recovery... to the point it went well past softcap (198 back then)

I relied on magicka abilities and stamina abilities for damage; and I ran undaunted bastion medium armor set.

At first view the only skills who don't have a better version for PvE HM trials are Shards and BoL (less sure for this one)

The only thing that i have to say about this is: i don't really think that eso has such a big power creep problem, with most groups vet dungeons will provide a decently difficult challenge, some more then others.
Only with the best groups you will be able to roflstomp dungeons and normal trials, but let's be fair here, there's not a single mmo where a group composed by the best players is not able to destroy content. And vet trials still provide a decent challenge even to the best players in eso, so no i don't think that power creep is a problem right now.

softcaps are the worst thing that could happen to ESO right now. Literally kills build and class diversity.
You mean like how soft caps allowed hybrid builds and other novel build styles without completely gimping you for not just building in the direction of min maxing stat/dmg/crit/pen?

Yeah, soft caps totally kill diversity
lmao, if you add soft caps in the game right now you are basically killing off about 40 or so sets and will pretty much shift all magicka and stamina builds to focus on one set to be the saving grace, racials will be useless too.

Yeah, soft caps totally kill diversity

This is what soft caps look like:

    VAeQwYN.jpg

Soft capped health, magicka, spell damage, spell resistance and magicka recovery. Everyone had these stats because they were so easy to obtain. That isn't diverse.

I realise that hybrid builds were viable, I played a leper si inspired S&B sorc build myself, but I that's not what I meant by more diversity. People were arguing that soft caps made you choose between damage and sustain and that that equalled diversity (or maybe they weren't and I imagined it), but that's not the case when you could have soft-capped recovery and max mag and spell damage. Iirc the diminishing returns for going over the soft caps were harsh and most people didn't bother pushing them.

Taking my char sheet screen shot on the previous page as an example; I have soft capped hp because all attributes in hp and emperor alliance bonus, soft capped SD because 4x martial knowledge and 2x cyrodiils light, soft capped magicka because mage mundus, soft capped spell resistance because that's the way light armour worked back then and soft capped recovery because 3x recovery glyphs and 3x arch mage. I probably had a decent chunk of spell pen too from a sharpened weapon (sharpened was op back then too).

There was no benefit whatsoever in pushing any of my stats any further, you weren't rewarded for it, doing so was actually detrimental and would have gimped me. Switching out my recover glyphs for SD glyphs for example would have given me a bit more damage for a lot less regen, so it wasn't worth it. I feel like I have more choices to make over my build today; I choose to run a slightly tanky build with a balance of damage and sustain, but it's nice to know I can build for more damage if I have the situation for it. With soft caps I didn't feel like I had the option for more damage.

I'm not saying I'm happy with balance and choice atm, I'm just comparing then to now with regards to soft caps.

While you are right on the math you have provided, you have to also point out that the spell/weapon damage on armor sets went from 179 at max to 129, a 30% decrease in strength, so they just moved the spell and weapon damage to the jewelry.

When I started to heal in this game, the meta for healers was 4 martial knowledge/2 Adroitness and the healers set, even then I used full cost reduction on my jewelry, never regen for pve.

Now you are right on with the rest of your points, I haven't had regen on my armor since I wore kragernac till I got SPC. I wore worm with it for four man stuff till I tired of it, now I just run bogdan helmet and willpower again. Cause I want to different and most people don't complain.

I think in some interview mentioned that there will be option to play without cp, not completely disable it for everyone.

Once you hit CP cap you can pretty much build for damage and not have to make any sacrifices to have full sustain.

However the biggest problem with the CP structure is that all the damage traits are on the blue tree and the sustain are on the green tree. There is no decision making here apart from magicka or stamina.

Blue tree should have all the magi damage AND sustain options, green should have all the stamina options. This would also allow people to make hybrid builds. This would also allow people to build for sets like red mountain properly.

Exept without sustain, people wont be able to clear the content due to lack of sustain.

Exept without damage, people wont be able to clear vet content like SOTH without said damage.

Your analogy only works if their nerfing the content as well, and trust me, they wont. The content has made the demand for damage. The content has made the demand for sustain. Nerfing one or the other means the content itself needs to be reworked.

    Yup, that's literally the idea.

The idea is to either spread your points broadly so you have some sustain and some damage, or put all your points into damage and try and deal with sustain in a different manner (heavy attack weaves? sustain jewellery? sustain set bonuses?) or grab all those sustain points and try and make up the damage with sets / enchants, or try and walk the middle road.
It forces you to balance your priorities and tweak your build.

You could throw all your sustain in the bin and go full hybrid, using magi and stam regens by using a balance of both skills. Stam sorcs could go all stam dps all magi regen and work dark deal into their rotation.

Right now we have ALL the damage and ALL the sustain, as long as you don't try and do any sort of hybrid build.

    @Tannus15

Take your logic, make a build with it, and try to complete shadows of the hist. Either dungeon. The result, is you'll either not do it, or you'll do it, and it'll take ages.

We dont have ALL the damage and ALL the sustain, you clearly dont know what your talking about if you think that's the case. Most builds have so tenuous sustain that they crumple over the first resource drain mechanic, and if we had all the damage like we did back in the day, SOTH dungeons would be a misnomer. Not only are you shouting hyperbole, your misrepresenting the current balance.

I stand by my statements. You do this, and the endgame community either wont be able to complete the content and leave, or be able to, but leave anyway because at this point, it's too much of a bother.

TLDR: Your idea sucks, it will drive people away, and your misrepresenting the people your arguing against, and the current game balance.

"Arrent punished for speccing into something"? Are you kidding me?

Back in the day, Twohander was a viable alternative because it was strong back then, even for PVE. Nowadays, if you pick it, you will never be as good as someone running duel wield.

"I like the system and therefor it should not change", is all you really had to say.

PS: "No true mmo"? Ahhh, the No true scotsman fallacy.

This was my line of thinking as well. I'll play the morrowind Chapter, enjoy the quests try out battlegrounds and such, But End game PvE Trials and open world PvP will be next to impossible if they do this. And only the most elite Players less than 1% of the entire community will be able to do anything effectively outside questing xD it's not funny but at the same time I can't help but laugh at how ridiculous this decision is whoever decided it.

I would absolutely LOVE an in depth explanation of the ACTUAL reasoning they have for this, and their supporting Documentation backing it up. Otherwise it's 100% terrible decision making without it.

I don't care if they have no answers. The answer is in the nerfs.

I've played ESO since closed beta, then quit when ZOS screwed their own game so much they were forced to make it F2P.

And now again with new PvP-induced garbage? A company that tanked their business so much to have to go F2P... have NO CREDIBILITY WHATSOEVER they won't screw up again.
EA infact did the same and now they are losing again the last chunks of players who stuck with SWTOR.

ZOS they can stick their Morrowind expansion where the sun does not shine.

Not going to buy it, until I get "the answers".

    • Stamina and Magicka cost reduction CP apparently removed
    • Mooncalf and Arcanist regen CP reduced to 15% maximum from 25% maximum
    • Warlord changed to "Break Free" cost reduction
    • Magician replaced by Siphoner, which reduces target's regen (health, magicka & stamina) when hit by light/heavy attacks

The bolded part basicly only hits medium and light armor builds, not heavy armor builds at all, cause heavy armor builds rely on resource returns through heavy armor constitution, racial passives or other ways to get resource returns.

Not really, you still need recov as a hvy magica user....only winners are stam hvy users who utilize hvy weaves every 1-2 abilities. Plus, light and medium armor have cost reduction passives while those running 5+ hvy will be having a hard time sustaining...

I guess you couldn't give a rats ass about hybrid builds being viable, but your personal preference does not magically make being shoehorned into fewer play styles a good thing.

Oh, did I mention soft caps?
softcaps are the worst thing that could happen to ESO right now.

Let's take a look and see the different playstyles of mag sorc that were viable in competitive pvp up through 1.5:
Removing soft caps + adding the CP system and nerf after nerf after nerf that have been slapped on as bandaid fixes for that mess have succeeded in pushing us to just having destro & dual wield playstyles left, with dual wield losing out more and more just about every update (poisons, 8% dmg boost on destro, incoming siphoning CP, ect).

Please, go ahead and explain to me how I have more options in my playstyle with the current system?

The music was better then, too.

10 pages of rage and still no zos reply........

    @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_KaiSchober @ZOS_RichLambert @ZOS_MattFiror

Because they have no answers, it's still 3 months away so I'll wait. My initial rage has subsided somewhat but if they don't balance it out for these massive nerfs to damage and sustain with something for base sustainability or reducing costs of abilities and better gear options. Then I'm done lol

I think you missed my post right before yours, I agree with you lol

But yes an explanation and supporting documentation in this situation is necessary to prove what they are doing with this is necessary. And they will need to give players more variety and uses in other areas for damage and sustain. With base game skill costs and Better armor sets to provide a bridge in difference for the nerfs

I reckon this is what's going on the devs' minds when they looking at the thread complaining about the lack of endgame contents. :D
