Dueling should be considered a crime

Make it incur a bounty so that duelers have to avoid the guards/witnesses and take that bother out in the wilderness where it doesn't bother anyone else.

I don't mind it adds life to the cities and game. Sometimes I just stop and watch, it's not my thing but to each their own. What gets to me is .. I have dueling invites set to off and when someone try's to duel me it auto declines them. Sometimes they whisper me or just say it in chat.. COWARD! I had a guy follow me around and moan about it in chat that I wouldn't duel him so I must be a coward blah blah blah. It's borderline harassment at a certain point. I don't like PvP and dueling, sue me... I don't complain about people that enjoy it.

Dueling wasn't made illegal in the U.S. until the 1800's. Why would it be illegal in a fantasy setting where slavery, murder (in the Morag Tong), and cannibalism are allowed? Furthermore, it wouldn't be lore friendly as you can duel Old Orcs in Skyrim, and legally at that. So no, OP.

I totally agree with you. Dueling in cities should be a crime and the guards should attack you for it.
Fortunately the towns on PC/EU have been relatively dueling free. It was terrible when dueling first was released.

Aha, but then the guard would be dueling you, prompting another guard to duel that guard, and another, and another, and another...

Dueling shouldn't be illegal, as I stated in my previous post.

Dueling lags the *** out of areas that are already laggy as ***. Unnecessarily contributing to increased lag in major cities should be a crime. RPing doesn't lag a damn thing.

It is better than people spamming abilities for no reason. Now, at least, there is a reason.

That's true. But it does destroy the performance of people entering the subzone and should be moved away from the Undaunted Enclaves and towns. There's a huge world out there and people could simply duel at Hammerdeath.

Here's a compromise: in order to duel at an Enclave you have to duel me IRL first.

I would think from a lore perspective that guards want to keep order in town. That would mean no drunken brawls or fights in public. So dueling would be considered fighting and should incur a bounty.

@ZiRM Sometimes you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. I had a similar experience. Except I decided to take his bait and duel him. I beat him, he then accused me of being a srub etc, and that he'd floor me if I fought again. I did, with the same outcome. He then crawled away under some rock as he disappeared from the area.

If duelling lags you out, then upgrade your crap rig.

People can do what they want, personally I cant stand RPers coming out with their crap in non private channels, but would I deprive them of doing what they wanna do in a game they paid for? nope.

Just because you do not like something, does not mean that everyone has to bow down to peoples selfish desires.

Belkarth is pve people and crafters. Though I have to say that in AC one of my characters was permared, had no weapons or weapon skills and was my crafter. Getting ganked in town crafting is sure different from ESO!

All three Undaunted Enclaves have duelers near them most hours of the day.

Performance in Belkarth is so poor already I think if people dueled they'd get lynched. I hear people do this in newbietown (Rawlkha) and I'm stunned people don't freak out on them. I suppose people couldn't even log in there so perhaps it's just not noticeable among the other problems there.

Or, you could just ignore it. Let them have their fun.

Duels cause performance issues with the spamming of abilities in crowded areas a key contributor to lag, as well as encourage players to congregate in areas that are already difficult if not impossible to reach / log into when crowded.

Duels should be restricted to non-town areas, baring that, the OPs idea to have guards arrest and cite players for dueling would be an improvement.

Keep that in mind when you join a zerg....

Lol, People always have to have something to complain about. Can't you find some other crap to make up and complain about?

The thing about mmo's is you can't control what everyone else does. If other people bother you that much then maybe you should play single player games.

2-3 weeks back, one of my chars was in Rawl'kha. There were a lot of players in Rawl'kha that day, lots of dueling too. The lag was on the same scale as Cyrodiil during the weekends. Eventually my game froze, then crashed. Considering the performance issue, outlawing duels in main cities is not such a bad idea.
Need to state that I am not against duels. Unfortunately when multiple duels take place in highly populated area's, they severely hinder performance.

Duelling was illegal in all civilised countries from the beginning of the 17th century onward though it was widely practiced by the nobilit. Duelling was already outlawed for Christians in 1200 sth.

Practically duelling became illegal with the introduction of general laws and was outlawed / forced underground with the gradual introduction of systematic law enforcement concepts. German students fought the last illegal saber duels in the 1940s, though a fatal outcome was already highly improbable at that time due to medical improvement and strict rules.

I'm just as much bothered when I see people roleplay in chat, as you are when you see people duel.

Oh yes very clever, except its a mmoRPG (role playing game)

And not so much a mmoDTG (duel #ard game)

Just curious, do you go to Mcdonalds and get bothered they are selling hamburgers too?
