CE treasure maps don't drop set items

I've opened two chests using CE treasure maps and got just usual stuff, not from any set. Is this a bug or CE treasure maps not supposed to drop set items?

The CE maps have always been a special little variety of derp and pointless. I just finally said screw it and dug 'em all up the other day to get them out of my inventory.

The Collector’s Edition (CE) Treasure Maps, by design, will never provide any pieces of an item set. The treasure they provide, and the locations they lead to, are wholly different from what you find from Treasure Maps acquired in-game, which do provide set item pieces. These things were true from the game’s launch, through One Tamriel.

We want players to be on an equal footing when it comes to their ability to acquire gear and power, regardless of their purchases. The CE Treasure Maps are intended for new players, who’ve only just begun the game: they provide a few non-set items to help an under-geared player be sure they have some non-white items to equip. From there, we encourage players to obtain higher-quality items, and set items, by playing the game.

No, get the chests and then vend the items for that sick ~250 gold per map :P

Makes sense that they'd do it the way they did, but I'm a little disappointed. In the end, it's not like it'd be game-changing for me, though.

They DO contain treasure - for the players they are intended for. I still remember how much easier life became for me 2 years ago when i got my first blue weapon from a CE chest in glenumbra.

My issue with those maps was most of the zones, back at release, I was not going to get to for a while. Now, at least with 1T, a player can harvest all the maps right out of the Wailing Prison.

In any event, I trashed all the maps I got from the pack, other than the one that I could farm. Bag space was more important than the future potential of the maps.

To be honest the first step to P2W is the gamble crates. At the start almost all companies introduce them with junk items but soon progress to including P2W items as they make the most money this way.

I dont mind what they did with the CE maps, but surely don't call them Treasure Maps (Collectors Edition items usually are better, not worse i should add, in my experience anyway) and secondly now i know they are junk i have deleted and cleared up space )

When i purchased them and got maps for Cadwells Silver and Gold areas that i couldn't access as a low level. Your statement above was invalid for the last 2 years and only applies now after one tamriel update. Should rename them to Starter Maps as they are closely marketed as Treasure Maps and are not like Treasure Maps.

Since the maps don't drop set items, would you be able to, at least, re-add the Bantam Guar pet to the Crown store under the Pets category?

I've been playing ESO for years but, right now, to get that pet I'd have to spend 1900 crowns for that Adventure pack (and I don't need the maps).

Grab 'em all on a 160, decon the results. The chests can't even roll a purple. If you didn't use them when originally playing through the game, they're straight up trash now. Or stick 'em on a lowbie, and use it to accelerate them a little bit as you're leveling.

i can commend this way of thinking but the CE chests are actually worse for new comers since no set bonuses means they'll be hindered, and the way the old CE maps were designed were based on the leveling and vet process but with global scaling, the chests from CE are much worse than regular chests, making them redundant.

my recommendation would be alter what they drop to include ONE set piece of the trainee (only training trait for obvious reasons), 20 potions of each of the 3 stats (hp, magicka, stam), 5 grand soulgems and 2-5 tri-stat food equal to the crown version.

this would give the CE maps more of a newbie friendly reward that is up to scratch of the current game, and doesnt devalue natural treasure maps. :)

Well it is easy way to train up your crafting or hopeful found some gear you can do research it may be useless for char in way of use items but it can be very usefull for get skills up in carft or get some usefull trait out of item.

Old thread, but these maps still exist, they are still bad and really need to be changed - after One Tamriel, they have no value cause of mob loot scaling everywhere and plenty of overland set drops.

I bought Adventurer Pack yesterday purely for pvp; I do not need pet and maps, but since they are included I thought it adds some better value to 1900 crowns... So I took all maps out of containers and decided which maps I want to open on magicka character wearing light armor and staff - for example, I thought it will be nice to get some random item from Deshaan light armor set :) When I opened this "treasure" chest, I was actually shocked.

    pPvpfsN.jpg

I even submitted a ticket, cause I had no doubt it is a bug. Now after I've searched on forums before creating my thread about the "bug" I find this thread :|
We want players to be on an equal footing when it comes to their ability to acquire gear and power, regardless of their purchases.

Funny :) If player doesn't purchase subscription or dlcs, he doesn't even have a chance to acquire powerful gear from dungeons/trials. It's just one CE map per zone, random set item from it would be very innocent addition.
The CE Treasure Maps are intended for new players, who’ve only just begun the game: they provide a few non-set items to help an under-geared player be sure they have some non-white items to equip.

Yesterday I've created redguard who fights for the Dominion (can't complain about this part of purchase, this is great). But traveling to locations of those maps would be a real pain, with lot of wayshrines locked and slow mount. It's my alt, so I just can tp to people in trading guild. She is level 6 now and had lot of gear drops from mobs to choose (I sell it cause I will craft her new gear anyway), has Spriggan set jewelry from dolmens. Really new player without guild and friends will have no way to collect most of those maps as soon as he starts exploring. Or it will take so much time to travel there even when he figures out some npc Navigators - by that time, new player will already have better overland and quest drops to equip.

Please, improve those maps. Unfortunately, I will not wait for it (if it ever happens) and just open them all and sell trash loot to merchant. Either add set item drop to them, or I also like this suggestion as more newbie friendly:
my recommendation would be alter what they drop to include ONE set piece of the trainee (only training trait for obvious reasons), 20 potions of each of the 3 stats (hp, magicka, stam), 5 grand soulgems and 2-5 tri-stat food equal to the crown version.

Or if you don't want to improve them, just edit their description:
Maybe you should rename them to CE Junk Maps, so others dont get the impression they actually contain treasure.

Awesome thread Necro. And also it's still true that the CE maps are trash. The 3 Vvardenfell maps yielded something very similar to the picture above. I think they also do not proc the Treasure Hunter passive. It's a shame especially considering the reasoning they have for it.

The issue of having a chest of higher (albeit slightly) level items to 'assist' new players is neither here nor there anymore, since the game difficulty level is very different than it was when it was first introduced. It's really not difficult to work a char up to max anymore, especially with xp pots.
