I kept checking the "Maintenance Announcements" section looking for something regarding why, once again, the maintenance is seemingly taking forever. Seems like a good place to put that information imo.And why isn't this posted in the official maintenace thread?
After 7 hours people have to dig through ONE of the MANY maint threads to find this?
I'm sorry lads, that's a bit unprofessional.

They no doubt do have multiple clustered servers for resilience reasons. But when updating the game in this way, it probably updates some shared databases that cannot be live and locked. They could deploy an entire replicated setup, but that would cost more in terms of kit, software and licenses, plus cost far more to own. It's therefore rare to deploy something that's truly end-to-end replicated except in the most business critical situations, and this is just a game.

Happens every time, nothing new here.
Did it just pop into your head to make a forum post, after ~7 hours of applying a minuscule ~96mb patch? Nice work continually and blatantly showing pure incompetence to the people who sub and support the game. I can rest well knowing Z0$ are basically flushing the pocket change re-investment money straight down the toilet.
assuming the servers been down "all day" for you.. where would you like them to mail the 50 cents you're out?

It must take awhile to get those bears back in line
They're in revolt over the hideous saddles they've been forced to wear.

Yet there are MMORPGs that do that or something similar and have virtually no down time other than chucking people out the game to update the client, e.g - Guild Wars 2.

I just luv hearing people complain that the game isn't running.
So many peeps that have no lives, other than ingame.
So many things you should be doing, instead of waiting and complaining about a game to start.
Go take a shower, its been at least a week.
Clean the room or house, I know it has to need some attention.
GO BACK TO School and try to learn some manners.
Go outside and play, someday you will wish you did.

Some people can't see the forest for the trees. This down time is not a one time event. We lose playing time beyond what is expected for 'maintenance'. Say down time totaled 2 weeks over the course of a year. You might not stop to pick up 50 cents, but I bet you would for $7. Then again, some of us live in a fantasy world where principles. matter. But that's not the world we really live in.

Just come back to the game after a year off, generally pleased with the changes I see.
But clearly some things never change. ZOS not quite got the hang of patching yet, and the age old hunt for an official patch announcement amongst obscure forum posts.

Maybe they should ask for Hilary to help out. She knows about technical issues and how to handle a server! ^^

I find ZOS's minimalistic communication to be borderline scornful and insulting.
Seven hours into the maintenance they send a vague message.
I understand (I think) that maintenance is necessary, but communicating with customers on issues and durations, especially when it's as long as today, is just COURTESY.
