It has been said many times before but anything bought from the crown is not a must have item and people buy things because they want them (DLC's are the possible exception here but even that can be argued).

There will always be a market for these things as those that have the money will pay for them and turning items you would like into must have items is a luxury that people in first world countries have.

The irony here is that if ZOS priced this stuff reasonably, they'd probably make more money from people doing more frequent changes. Instead, the prices are way too prohibitive.

I had several changes planned. But seeing these prices, I've scrapped all but one. Good job, you just lost revenue.

This has anyone at ZOS taken a damn economics class? Supply Demand and Price balancing = Profit. The supply you have is infinite but the price is so high it will drive down demand to the point where profit is down. I bet if they half the prices of the tokens Zenimax would make about 2.5 times more than these prices perhaps even more! the new hairs seem the right price though.

I actually makes me worry that people think these prices are ok...

I just look at those as bad trolls

To be honest, i kind of expected the prices to be in that range - not out of trolling by any means.

Zeni has been 'training' us to get used to high prices for a while by now - look at the cost of Dro-Mathra mount, the latest costumes at 1000+ and so on.

At this point most players who like fluff stuff are used to seeing crown store items at around 2k crowns, and they don't look wrong or unreasonable to them anymore.

Not justifying what Zos is doing, just sharing some sad and manipulative marketing tricks :|
Skye Cloude - Sorc DPS, Master Crafter. Main, the bestest
Lae Lenne - Templar Healer Trial grade.
Dromede - Stamina Nightblade, she's a newb and doesn't know what she's doing
V'oghatta - Stamplar pretending to be a tank
Ulville Thonvella - aspiring Fire Mage, be careful around her fire sticks!
Dromedaris - lost and not found. Named after a shoe, what else can you expect from her? A proper tank in her wildest dreams
Swims-Naked - too pretty to grind, too silly to quest.
Sun Flair - Dunmer Templar that can't spell for life. To bad she's too broke to afford a name change... Well, at least she's pretty...

I understand your point. But everything in the Crown store is more of a WANT than a need. You don't have to change your name/appearance/race. You WANT to change them. There really is no need for you to do that. You do it because you want to have better stats. You can still play the game no matter what race or appearance or name. Which is why ZoS is making it as expensive as it is. They are creating a NEED for you to change your name/appearance/race, and that is what bothers me. I get it they are a business, they need to generate income as much as they can. But pricing items like 2500 crowns for a name change? There are more important things in real life that I would rather have than virtually change a character name.

I've never complained about how ZoS price items in the crown store, because more of often than not I believe they were reasonable. I didn't get the 4k mount, because I didn't really need it. This one though, they are clearly just exploiting the desire of their players to make cosmetic changes. I will never pay that much.

"You had to live with what you created or destroy it and start over. Now, you actually have the decision, and it is your decision to make."

I'm pretty sure this is what ZoS is basically saying to you: Live with the crappy decisions you've made or buy our over-priced crowns. I am not sure, I can support a company with this kind of business philosophy. They hyped this name/appearance/race change so much, that it has now become a "need" for many, so they thought why not over-price it?! Tsk. Tsk. Very disappointing.

Actually, they are not creating a NEED to change anything about your character. People may think that, but it really translates to a WANT, not a NEED.

In my case, I thought that a friend was not going to be interested in this game and used a character name that he likes to use. If he wants to play ESO, and wants that name, I need to change it. I suppose I could delete it, so maybe it turns it into a want, too. Right?

In any case, I have no current reasons to do more than change hair styles, so that is all I plan to do. For 1000 Crowns, plus 200 per interesting hair style, I am fine.

ZOS is not going to say how they arrive at prices. Personally, I think that Appearance change should be 750 Crowns, Name change 1000 Crowns, and Race change 3000 Crowns. Package deal is still 3500 Crowns. If they rework the game to allow Race+Name as part of Race change, then I believe they should still charge 3000 Crowns for Race. I also believe that they should move Gender from Appearance to Race and turn Race into a total character makeover that also includes Class, for 3000 Crowns. No package deals needed anymore.

I suspect that things are so expensive because there are people not spending crowns, like me. Maybe they look out there and see this massive pool of unspent Crowns from all the ESO Plus subscribers and figure this is a good way to whittle that pile down.

Race Change looks about right in comparison to other MMO's

Name Change I can sort of understand why they made it cost what they did..but at same time you can see Account Names so i'm kind of confused why they bothered with that Price

Appearance Change is to expensive..should be 500

Outrageous prices. This is so pathetic. Can't help but highly dislike this greedy company which insists on becoming more and more greedy.

ZOS, you know exactly how gross this practice is, and the community will look at some of their characters everyday and think "I wish I could change this character's name and race but don't want to pay such a ridiculous price."

As a console player, I feel especially disappointed with the cost of name changes (2.5k). Unlike PC players, we didn't have our character's names appear to others at the beginning. Since they didn't show, many created arbitrary names for their alts in the character creation process. Nobody is going to see it so who cares, right? Then the added the feature in a recent patch, leaving many console players embarrassed by their character's names, which became visible to all.

What is the purpose of that price-point?

So...when they launched eso, races barely matter.
Some time later during the b2p transformation then jumped on the powercreep train and made races matter a lot now.
    And now you do this?

Atleast give us the first race change for a reduced price if you decide to chance balance that much over the last 2 years.
My breton ( i actually picked them only because back there i was mad that they put an extra price tag on imperials ) would love to change to any stam race as stam tank.

I feel like feedback threads are for people who still have unrealistic hopes that ZOS will listen to them. This thread is more for the community to converse with each other about their opinions on the prices, knowing very well that ZOS won't care one bit what we think or say. LOL.

    Exactly.

Cradles-Icebergs-In-Hands never wanted to have his name made visible to others... so he had hoped name change might arrive one day.

Thanks to the insanely-overpriced 2500 crowns it'd cost to fix the passport, he will live his entire life in a bank. Good one ZOS.

Realistically, these prices have screwed up many of my plans. Not paying 9500 crowns to do basic things like this on a bunch of characters. Only one characters will benefit from these new features with a one time bundle purchase (3500 crowns).

Being on console and having all of my characters created when nobody could see your characters name, I would like the opportunity to rename some of them now that everybody can see them. Charging exorbitant amounts just to change the name of a character when it has absolutely no impact on how the character performs is insane.

I feel like this should be highlighted for console users. Many character names were created with little thought because there was no way to access the names. Now anyone can see them, and I don't remember seeing an option to hide the names.

Of course, I can imagine the delicious salty tears from PC people if console players got a deal on the name changes, even if the deal was temporary. ZOS is stuck on this one I think.

Except not. I played a game that was F2P and offered in-game appearance changes for in-game currency. I believe others have pointed out games that charge in-game currency for appearance changes.

You probably meant to specify the name and race changes. Those I am OK with real-word money. I am not sure I agree with the prices, though.

I would wager that most players are OK with charging for name and race changes, just not at the current amounts.

I would wager that many of those same players feel like in-game money should be used for appearances, since it's a pretty basic RPG feature.

I was surprised by these prices.

I was expecting 1k name change. 2-3k appearance change. 5k+ race change. And I thought MAYBE one name change for one of my characters because I never considered surnames when I made my main, and all my alts have surnames.

Now there will be no name change for poor ScoMan.

May he wander forever without family or a sense of belonging.

What gets me most is 2500 for a name change. Are you *** Kidding me? That is insane. It literally takes nothing in terms of programming on their end. I had plans to rename all my toons to fit a theme, but no thanks. Not at that price.
I don't mind race change being high, but unless I get a 24 hour window to play with appearance to to make sure I like it, the 1000 crowns is a bit much (wait, do we get a 24 hour window?). If it's one and done each time I want to play around then 500 is a better price point. It won't matter what I think, though, because a flood of people will be hitting the barber shop.

Pricing is upside-down. How is name change more expensive than appearance change?

Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood and the Argonian Dungeon Pack are overpriced enough as it is... Having features like this surpass the price of DLC is outrageous.

They set the prices because people will pay. That's it. Nothing else to it. If that $40 mount or whatever it was sold 3 copies, then, you know, it would be like, "Hey, look, a half-price sale on this mount!" Same with the barber shop. Lots of people will pay, including whales who will buy the place out along with people who really shouldn't wreck their budget who do anyway so that they can have their character's eyes match the new costume they just finished dyeing.

As a bonus, every so often they will have a half-off barber shop sale for a few days, and people will be glad to pay reasonable prices as sale prices, generating a feeding frenzy and more revenue. This is how marketing works. It's based on psychology and personality types. They have people who keep up on this stuff, what's going on in the industry and how well the player-base of this game matches that. These aren't numbers they pull out of their asses.
