I'm just going to put this thought out there - no matter how wonderfully player housing is done, there are going to be large numbers of people disappointed if it is all city homes or large estates - I do hope they consider putting in some RP options such as a woodland hunting lodge, a beach fishing hut, a cave, a small farmhouse, an isolated cottage, a crypt, a ruined tower (to name but a few things off the top of my head that RPers will go nuts for).

My guess would be they will start with few houses on popular locations, then add more as we go. Probably as unlocks in the Crown store...

My guess is that they will start with a few houses in popular locations, and it will stay that way for years.

Edit: This is based on the Guild Traders, which have not been changed significantly in the last two years.

There was always that house in the Hollow City next to where whatever villain you rescue (if you rescue them) sets up shop...it would be interesting to know if it's changed, however...

We are definitely glad to see the excitement in this thread! As you all have noticed, some of the homes previously existed in the world, and some are brand new. In a few cases, a citizen of Tamriel decided to move out and renovate their home for the upcoming housing market. Which means that their home is empty and no longer available for a short while. (Maybe they were sick of getting robbed? )

We noticed that some players are considering waiting in the old home interiors on Live to try to get “inside” of the homes when Shadows of the Hist goes Live. This won’t really work, though – you will only see a vacated version of the old home (and it is not the interior that you could purchase, anyway.) So while it is technically possible to hang out in the former public homes, those are not the interiors that you may purchase someday, and there is no advantage to doing so.

Also: we are actively working on even more homes and the rest of the housing system, and we are always eager to read your feedback as we work. We just wanted to give you guys a heads up so you don’t waste much time camping in those old interiors. B)

Awesome news! So although the outside looks one way the interior will be totally different as its probably instanced once you purchase that style.. So excited!

Just as a bit of friendly feedback in this regard! Can we please get a 'cave' as a house? For example, the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary had an absolutely amazing look and feel to it! It would be super awesome if a copy of that could become a house/home the player can purchase, just like any other house in the world.

In general, exotic places like that would be very attractive for nasty vampire characters like my own, as its far more fitting than an ordinary house out in the world.

Oh.. And please, can we get a coffin as a bed? Pretty please? =P

I think that makes the most sense. It keeps the houses in the world and keeps the player base together rather than splitting it up into numerous areas that are filled with just houses.

@ZOS_MandiParker This is looking great! I don't suppose you have a list available of where new buildings have been added to zones, and (perhaps more importantly) which existing NPC houses have been repurposed and where the residents of those have been moved to? We would like to ensure we have fully documented the existing state of these NPCs and houses on the UESP wiki before the world building changes drop on Live. Thanks!

Of course it is - the gameworld wasnt designed for players to plop down housing anywhere they please. Besides, instancing means every player will be able to own a home - instead of space getting used up or that awful, limited space neighborhood system that a couple other games use.

Would I rather have my own place in the world for all to see? Of course I would. But thats not realistic thinking for the kind of gameworld ESO has.

Bottom line, instanced housing is just fine. Is it ideal? Not for some, but many things arent. Such is life.

There's no reason why housing zones wouldn't work. Myself I don't see the point of a fully instanced house where 5000 players enter the same house and all get a different instance of it.. just makes housing pointless imho.

Ah, never noticed the wayrest location (at least on the map), I'll have to append that to the video walk through unless someone can point out any additional houses.

Also DeShawn's map is missing an island on its map bUT the land and house (part of thieves guild quests) is still there

I just wish there is a farm/mill house available preferable similar to Marja's Mill in Gold Coast where the gladiator set is crafted. I find that farm scene stunning with the windmill and fields of wheat. Can't think of a more better setting for a Khajiit farmer :D

Funny you say that - I'm worried about the opposite. A lot of those houses seem to be typical concrete buildings and that doesn't feel homely to me at all, I'd rather bunker down in a hut. My favorite houses in TES were the shacks in Bravil and the Imperial City waterfront. There's just something cosy about rudimentary dwellings:

@ZOS_MandiParker in Abah's Landing there's the prime real estate of the palace which is completely inaccessible after you've finished the quest portion that takes place there.

It's a real pity because it has wondrous gardens and pools and would make for a fantastic princely palace. Hope there's something for it in the pipeline as I'd love to go back there!
