Zos introduced the lag that we all now now, in an attempt to stop cheating by switching how the game handles server-client requests back in launch days.
Years later...here we are. A Failed anti cheat system that only made the game worse/laggy af.

Zenimax will go down in history as what NOT TO DO in an MMO.

Other people have touched on what I consider the greatest foreseeable loss here. In my groups, I've always discouraged accusations of cheating -- not necessarily because I think people deserve the benefit of the doubt (though I do think the majority of us have earned it, which is a little different), and not because I thought cheating was impossible. Obviously, it's been possible.

But when you decide the players responsible for your demise achieved their victory through illicit means, you let yourself off the hook. You declare it unnecessary to learn from your mistakes; there is nothing that you could have done differently, because the outcome would have been the same. After all, they were cheating. Why introspect? Why improve?

I'm not saying that is the universal reaction, or that it will become universal now, but it is a prevalent one, and it is problematic. Cyrodiil has too many other problems; it won't work at all if we decide the whole thing pointless. The competitive atmosphere is already diminished. Too many old players are gone, too many groups are gone. They are not irreplaceable, however, unless we allow their dedication to fade with their names.

ZOS has their work cut out for them, as do we. Us playing now, playing still... those of us playing despite. This part of the game, beyond any other, depends on us. Many things are out of our hands; many are not. We have to play honestly, yes. We have to be so frickin' honest. We have to play fair ourselves, and we have to report people who are cheating. But we also have to play better; we have to get a little better every time we play. We have to seek out organization, and provide organization to others. We have to appreciate the people that fight well against us, and think about what we can do different the next time, especially if we just got rekt. Everything counts a little more than we think.

Once we assume that everyone we fight is doing something shady, we start to lose that incentive to learn and improve. And once that's gone, we're not going to get our will to fight back. We'll leave, ahead of schedule, and the newer players will bonk their heads for a bit before leaving too. After that, it's a post-apocalyptic Cyrodiil where one guy has time enough at last for all the Cropsford quests. Fade to black.

It's funny you bring this up but in almost every "Macro" thread you have people claiming that it was not possible to use multiple skills in one second due to cooldowns and that players just needed to learn how to play "git gud".... now that the cat is out of the bag I wonder if these same players are still singing the same song?

For the record though.. if any PC players really love the game but don't want to put up with the cheaters.. come on over to the consoles. I mean we don't have addons to help us out nor do we have text chat (yet) but the game is still fun and enjoyable!

It is possible to have three shots hit in one second, though.

Yeah. Before anyone /reports players strictly because they seem to attack too fast, do everyone a favor by installing the Recount addon (as it reports damage in milliseconds), learning how to animation cancel and spend a few hours testing on mammoths. Play with very low settings with all toggles off to ensure the most responsive client performance possible.

Alcast, Lefty Lucy and others have some pretty good animation cancelling videos. I believe Lefty has a video with his fingers filmed in action.

Our casual observations of attack speed don't have much value in a game like ESO. Use recount so you can see how fast enemies are attacking before reporting.

Never, ever report someone based on the death recap alone. It can be confusing and buggy.

It's been a while since I tested, but off the top of my head, it's not hard to LA -> ability -> bash -> LA ability -> bash within 1 to 1.2 seconds or so -- and probably procing a weapon enchant while doing so.

As big a problem as cheating may be, ignorance of game mechanics and over-zealous reporting may be as large a problem.

Not only cancelling, but certain abilities have travel time and players use those to essentially hit two attacks at the same time for great burst.

Sad. This happens to every game online. Destiny has Dos attacks and network manipulation, CoD the same. Mmporgs have *** basement dwellers rescripting to gain advantage, same with most PC games, on top of the other cheating tactics.

Im on ps4 and ive seen 3 or 4 abilities landing in the spam of1 second, not animation canceling light attacks and bashes, abilities. Not as horrible as what pc players are dealing with.

On BF4 we called them the Brazskillian connects because it's a latency issue from south americans jumping on US servers.

Point is cheaters gunna cheat. Dont buy into the hype of "skill" unless its at a sanctioned event. This will pass, sad but im not sure they can fix this without screwing the game up completely.

I don't agree with what Zazeer did, lost all respect for him.

His actions and post comes across as a last ditch cry of attention. To me he will be remembered as the guy who nightcapped emperor with a large group of players on which ever server was dead with no competition at the time until he ended up getting emperor on every campaign.

Ive always suspected some people of having an unfair advantage out there, I can usually tell a good build or something that should win a fight, or a good strat. But there have been instances were things happen that made not a lick of sense, and resulted in an outcome that really should not have happened.

Personally, I have always played legitimate. Even in single player games where you can get a game genie or a code to plug in to unlock weapons and stuff, it ruins games for me. Casting shade on every remaining guild in the dwindling pvp population and trying to insinuate you may be the only righteous guild is /facepalm worthy. If I start seeing this when I'm actually fighting groups then it will be appropriate to play that game, but until then, you lost, get over it. It's far more likely that you just got beat, not that your opponents exploited. I'm not going to give your comment any more attention than it deserves.

You dont get it, do you? There have always been those small little groups that could do more than anyone else, and quite frankly Zheg, you and I are top tier players at the top of our game that have played the game forever, know most if not all of the community, strats, builds, etc.... and you are gonna sit here and tell me with a straight face youve never noticed the select few seeming to always have it easier than others?

I know of people that would tap shift just before dodge rolling, I know of people that would use meteor on inclines to cause fall damage, I know of people abusing camo cheese, I can go on and on. That doesn't mean when I come across people that have played in a small group and are good that I immediately think exploit. Your post was close to painting everyone in the same light, and that's what I called out. I would suggest that the majority of the pvp community is disgusted, not enticed by the exploit - but maybe I'm just being optimistic for once.

Most people are disgusted . Good players shouldn't be cast in doubt just because they're good . They're are a lot of legitimate good players that would never need a cheat engine to help them win .

OH I know . I just don't feel like rehashing the last 2 years to get told I need a new tinfoil hat . I'll let others relive those memorable moments this time .

He does not negate all incoming damage. He has 20% dodge chance like every other person in the game with shuffle. He is just very skilled at recognizing what is coming at him and reacting appropriately. Kodi heals with vigor on cooldown. He keeps up every buff and pops rally when needed. He purifies every dot, he dodges every charged heavy attack and wb. He can burst down other players because he is skilled with understanding the mechanisms of skills and when to use them for damage, resource sustain, and escape. You can see this in his videos. He is an excellent player. Do not try and diminish that because you do not understand or perform at that level.

The really disappointing part of this whole affair is that I have always discouraged people in my groups from blaming "Cheating" when they encounter really "skilled" players..... the last few days has caused me to reevaluate my stance.
Kinda sad that all will be suspected now, no matter what Zos changes.

The PVP community is already prone to a fairly high level of toxicity, this will only make worse.

I did say sometimes... like sometimes the RNG god favors kodi...... a lot

he is a good player but sometimes the stunts kodi pull off are not possible.

And 20% dodge seems low for the amount in of incoming he can dodge without rolling.

We had a really good time last night in Oceanic pvp, red vs. blue. Didn't see anything to make me suspect cheating. Soon, yellow will have a new guild to help AD out. So just bring yourself and your friends, and let's have a good time as always. See you on the battlefield.

So would you have rather kept on believing a lie and encouraging your players to try to reach some unattainable standard that was based on a lie? I am hopeful this whole debacle will FIX pvp. Meh. I really don't care much about people cheating. Doesn't impact me much. I'm glad to see bans though.

The ult spamming was much of a problem. It was obvious. I'm not sure they are banning anyone who used cheat engine more subtly. Regardless, I've been enjoying the game fine. I wasn't there for the ult barrages, though I would have found those quite funny. I have run into some sketchy impossible to damage individuals in Cyrodiil, but it really didn't impact my enjoyment. And this all have zero impact on my enjoyment outside of Cyrodiil.

It does indicate that if you like competitive PvP and PvE leaderboards, maybe you should have moved to console.

So would you have rather kept on believing a lie and encouraging your players to try to reach some unattainable standard that was based on a lie? I am hopeful this whole debacle will FIX pvp. I actually agree, if this never happened nothing would have changed, and years from now people would still be using the engine low-key.

There will always be people who over-exaggerate things, who jump at excuses like cheating to generally tarnish the names of people playing the game legitimately.
