I didn't realize it was a limited time thing but honestly, I didn't pay attention as I didn't think I would have this kind of problem now.

    Honestly,
I am affected by this upgrade as well as my card does not fully support DX11, but at the same time, my graphics card is now 7 years old. So should I fault ESO for this?

Games have to continue to advance with latest technology to improve graphics and game play otherwise people will complain about that and move on to better games.

Just like Xbox and PS4 don't make all their old games playable, game manufactures have to make a decision as to when to cut off old technology. ESO warned it was going to DX11, so we should have checked our graphics card to make sure it is compatible and if not, upgrade it.

I understand not everyone can afford to upgrade or replace their laptop, but just how old is your rig?

I do understand that there are a few people with DX11 who have a problem, but I would think that is a small percentage. The rest of us just have graphics cards that are too old.

  • Ragnarok100ub17_ESO
If that was my problem I would gladly go fix it and buy another graphics card (though I know some people can't do that). I hope they do give an option to port people over to the console if they can no longer play on the PC though how many of them have a PS4 or XBox1 is problematic. I just feel lost in the mess since by all rights, I SHOULD be able to play and I cannot.

Actually you can play several Xbox 360 games on the xbox1 and they keep making more of the games available. It would be nice if acct transfers were made available again, I'm pretty sure there would be a lot of players who otherwise would not be able to play eso anymore willing to transfer accts to consoles to continue playing.

This isn't the issue of not being able to play a new game on your old hardware, it's not being able to play the old game on your existing hardware. When a new version of an Xbox 360 game comes out, it'll be made to run on Xbox One, which is fine, but you can still run the old game on your 360 console. With ESO, people who just want to play the base game or the previous DLC can no longer do so.

Just to clear up some things on here that I learned first hand, but haven't seen really blatantly on this thread yet -

MOST COMMERCIAL LAPTOPS ARE NOT COMPATIBLE TO PLAY ESO AFTER THE LATEST THIEVES GUILD PATCH.

That means if you have a nice Intel i3, i5, i7, whatever you cannot play. You now need a dedicated separate graphics card and for most laptops (even ones selling at Walmart and Best Buy at the time of this post) are NOT good enough to play ESO any longer.

The only laptop I've successfully gotten it to run is thru boot camp on a MacBook Pro. And even that crashes every so often with a message that "I don't meet the minimum requirements." That one at least lets me get passed the login screen. :/

This. People with laptops are probably the majority that got screwed over with this. I'm not going to go into detail about how much I dislike this new Dx11 change (even though I have GTX 970), but I gotta say that suggesting to buy a new card isn't as simple. It's nearly impossible to get a decent GPU for a decent price for a laptop. You can get a cheap GPU for desktop , but if you have an old rig that won't really do. You might be able to run the game but your CPU will bottleneck and your game will just stutter A LOT probably.

On a side note, how have things changed visually and in terms of gameplay since the switch to Dx11 (on a 2 years old game engine)? I just wanna know what exactly was achieved by this since I've ran the game once since Thieves Guild was released just to check if it's still running. And yes I'm not playing currently out of spite and I doubt more and more I'll return in the near future or ever. I do like to be updated though.

@MjolnirVilkas Things didnt change at all to be honest. The strangest thing is many people where able to play on PTS on sunday just fine and found out day later they cant play anymore.

I understand the need for upgrade. Its the lack of proper information that is really frustrating.

What other MMO's out there require DX11 compliant cards as a minimum?

    Look all,

It boils down to this. This is our own fault. Why? Because Bethesda and Zenimax are [Snip]. We all know it. We all knew it when we installed and paid for ESO, and the entire gaming community knows it. For years they have thumbed their noses and raised their middle finger at the gaming community and we continue to take it. Why? Because plain and simply they come out with some of the best games. However with that power they along the way adopted the attitude that they can do what they want, when they want and to who they want and if you don't like it, go pound sand.

I remember years ago trying to play the Fallout 3 GOTY edition on PS3 which was HORRIBLY and completely broken. Their response at the time was essentially, "Yeah... the release of a GOTY edition means we're done with that game." And that was it. At the time I swore up and down, no more Bethesda games. Fast forward to 2016...and here we are...

So for those of you leaving... I admire your willpower and more power to you. For those of us who continue to take it... well maybe we can nurse our wounds with a gallon of ice cream and an Oprah Winfrey marathon, but guess what? If we're attracted to the bad boys, it's gonna happen again. And it *will* happen again.

Again, I don't think most people are upset with this because of the DX11 change.
Most people are upset because of bad communication about this. Such a major change must been communicated BEFORE the update, not afterwards, when it is seen as a bug by players.
Better would it be for such a change not to be implemental, but that's ok by me. I understand this. But it shuold have been said earlier.

And for now, they just should anserw the questions on why some people using DX11 are having issues. I want that answered before I even think of getting some old, used grphic chip for my PC to shortcut the time til I buy a new one (well, it's not only about ESO here, I need a slightly better card for video editing, too, but I don't want to buy one for just one reason. Magix stillw orks, even if humble, with my old card ;-) ).

So, still no real communication about those crashes even if our card support DX11 or more ?

This is blatantly false. All Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors since the Ivy Bridge architecture (3000 series, initially released in April 2012) have built-in support for DirectX 11 graphics in the integrated GPU.

It's not tho. While they might support directx11, they do not have a separate, dedicated graphics card with at least 1gb of ram (seperate of your normal ram, and for people that know less than me about computers, just ask someone.)

When I wrote to the support team, this was their response:
"I took a look at the Game Consultant and it appears you are running an Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 which is below our minimum specifications. Due to the game engine changes implemented in this update, The Elder Scrolls Online requires video cards with 1GB of dedicated memory (RAM). None of the video cards in the Intel(R) HD Graphics family have this dedicated memory. While some systems which are below minimum specifications may have been able to run the game on low settings before, the updates put in place now make full use of the minimum requirements.

    Warm Regards,
    The Elder Scrolls Online Team"

So while I'm no expert on what Sandy Bridge does what with who, and where; I can read above that none of my laptops (or commercial laptops out there) are gonna cut it.
  • The_Legendary_Arya
Im running Intel 3000 too, and thought about buying a new laptop just for ESO. If Gina or sb else would be so kind and tell me about which Graphic Cards/which Laptops would work with ESO, i could think about which id buy. Because i dont have a clue which could actually work with so many not working.

Please replace those who made these "fixes and patches". They are clearly working to kill the game or for any competition you have there. It will only get worse the longer you let them work for you.

Started crashing from yesterday, both 64bit and 32bit. Happens 1-2x times a day. Not frequent, but in the past this game didn't crash a single time.

Also, sometimes I cannot "Quit" the game. It just hangs and I have to go to Task Manager to kill the proc.
