Does anyone still use "common" racial motifs?

For me it depends on what I think of my character being in the game. What's his personna. Who is he? What''s his job, Why is he here?
I am finishing leveling my first character who currently is a V13 Imperial NightBlade, so I generally wear a mix of medium and heavy Imperial armors. I play the character as "scout" or "sniper" so I ask myself what would he look like. So his armor is colored in blacks, browns and dark greens to blend in. For weapons I do choose a style that I like as a mark of the characters individuality (Dwemer Bow and Daedric sword) which seems appropriate since this type of character would use specialized weapons even while being part of an Imperial legion.
I have a level 30+ Altmer Sorc. He wears a mix of the Ancient and traditional light armors garb for his race. Since he is a High Elf his outfits are colored like a Peacock. The NPC Elves in the game seem to think highly of themselves and want everyone to notice them. Completely different look but same philosophy.
I will add that I am a crafter and earn most of my gold making and selling level 16 - 46 armors and players that I sell to are still very interested in the Common motifs. Maybe that's all they can afford or maybe it's because they are on their first time through and they want to feel like they belong to their faction.
    Anyway, those are my thoughts.

I just bling my character out with whatever motifs I happen to find during my adventures. It's more fun and rewarding finding motifs rather than buying them IMHO. Plus it gives me something to do for a LONG time to come.

I'm crafting heavy with the orc motif(the original one, used by orc DK) and medium with nord motif(looks like chainmail). Only use new motifs for light chest/robe(xivkyn).

Still looking for bosmer motif for my young dragon knight to wear. Colour it black and looks nice. Poor AF so have to resort to rummaging in people's stuff in a hope to find it.

I mostly craft with normal racial styles before V16. I may consider crafting V16 weapons with them though.

Keep in mind that the 10 racial motifs have a 4th tier as well, only accessible right now by earning V14 master weapons. This 4th tier is so cool it's not even funny!

On my main who is a woodelf, I have him in all Bosmer style stuff, sometimes I get him to wear it with the Khajjiti chest.

On my Most played alt, who is an orc templar, I also get him to wear bosmer stuff, but heavy armour usually.

On my second most played alt, who is an argonian, he is in full argonian gear.

I always like thed the racial styles.

I use a combination of Xivkyn, Glass, Redguard (belt), and Bosmer (swords). I used dwemer epaulets in the picture, but that was a placeholder for Kena.

Crappy graphics, I know. Hopefully I'll have something better in the mail next week. ;)

Largely, I use certain motif pieces for roleplay clothing, but provided I can reasonably dye-match, light and medium pants tend to have a few good, 'normal' looking meshes in common motifs. As well, a lot of Redguard armor looks classy without being overblown and weird.

Previously, I used Dwemer light armor. Lately, though, I use a combination of Merc (chest, shoulder), Imperial (gloves), and Yokudan (found set boots and belt -- wish I could craft this motif!). Looks good and classy to me.

Yep, I still use the blue motifs. The only part Im not completely happy with are the boots... the way they dont quite match in color despite using the same dye...

Usually I stick with the one that comes with the race, unless I have a specific reason not to. Like my Imperial Dragonknight who, for RP reasons, was born and raised in Skyrim and is loyal to the Skald-king, and thus uses Nordic style armor and weapons.

Btw... Which dye are you using for brown?
A lot of brown dyes are too glossy, but this one looks really nice. :)

The common vanilla motifs are all nice, personally I like light dunmer, nord, altmer and daedric style. Im currently using daedric because it looks awesome and the style matters little anyway. It's all about the colors. Nordic style armor can look stunning with the right color combinations, same goes for dunmer, alter, redguard, etc. Just the same, daedric, xivkyn, imperial glass can look horrifying with bad color combinations. It's all about the colors, trust me.

It seems to me like with every new fancy motif added to the game, everybody wants to be special and stand out... and in the end, nobody does because everyone (reasonably rich) is running around in Glass, Xivkyn, Mercenary etc armour and everybody poor either has a mish-mash of leveling gear or costumes. I almost never see anyone with a full set of gear in the "basic" racial styles like Breton, Altmer, Nord etc... With some nice colours, they can actually look really nice!

So... does anyone else stick with the "common" styles and managed to make it look nice? Got some good examples to share?

I actually LOVE khajiit style. I'm currently sporting Mercinary for RP purposes, but Khajiit is probably my favorite style in the game, especially the heavy helm with that crest (I just wish you could dye the feathery crest a different color then brown!)

I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

I just use what I find. Don't care at all about all the new "special" motifs.

As long as it covers me and does it's job and doesn't look as ridiculous as those "special" motifs, I'm good to go.

I usually go with Breton for cheap good looking armors. I also like many pieces from Imperial, but my favorite is still Merc gear. The Merc medium helmet looks horrible on females and I'm still waiting for that incremental that will fix the Outlaw helmet drop rate...

The style depends more on some items, which are great in some races compared to others. IMHO, best blue styles are:

    ........................Light................................Medium......................Heavy
    Head................Breton..............................Bosmer......................Nord
    Shoulder...........Kajhit...............................Bosmer......................Khajiit
    hands...............Orc..................................Bosmer......................Dunmer
    legs..................Dunmer...........................Dunmer......................Dunmer
    feet..................Redguard.........................Orc.............................Orc
    waist................Breton..............................Bosmer......................Kajhiit
    chest................Breton................................Khajiit......................Khajiit
    Sword...............Argonian/Redguard
    Hammer...........Orc/Nord
    dagger.............Argonian/Orc
    Axe..................Orc/Redguard
    Bow.................Altmer/Kajhiit
    Staff................Khajiit
    Shield..............Redguard

Sarcasm is something too serious to be taken lightly

I was born with the wrong sign
    In the wrong house
    With the wrong ascendancy
    I took the wrong road
That led to the wrong tendencies
I was in the wrong place at the wrong time
For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme
On the wrong day of the wrong week
Used the wrong method with the wrong technique

I was going to craft Akaviri style for my lowbie NB, but then I decided it was crazy to spend so much on dragon scales when I will be upgrading the gear once every 10 levels... So I remembered that I always liked the Covenant Scout costume, and decided to try out good ol' Breton medium armour. I was pleasantly surprised at the result :)

Everything is Bosmer Leather Medium except Shoulder and Boots which are Imperial Medium and Sash which is Imperial Light.

I don't particularly like the more "primitive" aspects of the Bosmer armour style, with the bones and stuff, and I felt the Imperial pieces fit in quite well aethetically and RP-wise (my girl is Imperial afterall)

So... does anyone else stick with the "common" styles and managed to make it look nice? Got some good examples to share?

Your character is far too skinny, boarderline anorexic... Can she even lift a staff? There is no way she would have the muscle mass to even carry the weight of a few medium pieces... Much less even fend off a skeever.

What I'm saying is though, she doesn't do justice to the armour, we need more real people with flesh to show off fashion!
(It is a real world issue BTW aswell)

Joking aside, yea, I do use racial styles, in fact I prefer most racial styles to rare motifs. My all time favourite is veteran Dunmer.
