I don't do Day 1 games anymore. I've been disappointed too many times to let it happen again. I wait for reviews/patches/mods to come out first. I also don't pick single player games up at full price. A single player game will never be worth it. I heard Witcher 3 was really good but waited till I could pick it up for $20 or less. Got it for 15 during a sale.

^ This ^ pretty much. It's on my Steam wishlist, but if I wait, not only will it come down in price, but there might be some interesting mods out for it as well.

RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

What you play when you're bored of Skyrim and the ESO servers are down. OH! And when you have the desire to blow something head up with a gun or baseball bat.

I have to admit, I've never played any Fallout game. Maybe because I've always been occupied with other games at the time one was released, maybe the setting isn't just my cup of tea. And these are probably the reasons why I won't play one in the foreseeable future.

I threw my lot into The Elder Scrolls a long time ago.
My head only has so much space for alternate persons.
The ESO character I have developed is on my mind constantly.
So it's fair to say I'm staying in Tamriel.

    It ain't easy being green.

A year ago I might have considered F4 a decent game, despite the typical Bethesda fails. Laughable story, PC UI is just unbelievably bad, etc. Witcher 3 has raised the bar for single player RPGs to a whole new level though and the open world, Bethesda's one and only strength, just isn't enough anymore.

They better up their game for the next TES title or the series will fade into oblivion.

Can we leave Witcher out of this please? Been there, done that. Not all it's cracked up to be (been through it 6 times so far). Let's stick with Beth/ZoS games in this discussion.

Well Fallout 4 kinda disappointed me a bit so far, and it seems like I'm not the only one.
It really isn't as good as FNV even though that game was far from perfect too, but I expected much more from Bethesda.
I suppose there is no question anymore, The Witcher 3 is GOTY easily, shame there won't be The Witcher 4 though.

Skyrim, Fallout..these singleplayer games have a few hundred hours worth of content..
Which is why I still prefer MMOs, there is just so much more content and things to do, on top of that I can even play with my friends.

Bethesda should really take some things from ESO and The Witcher 3 when designing ES6. It really surprises me that ESO has better gameplay and story than any game Bethesda developed so far, even though ESO is an MMO.

A few hundred hours? I have over 7K in Skyrim and at least 500 in Fallout. Witcher can't keep up with that (even though I've been through it 6 times) and, currently I'm a little obsessed with ESO.

Agree with Bloodfang - Fallout 4 hasn't really grabbed me like I expected. Loved the Witcher 3, but missed playing with others.

Didn't think ESO would be such a great game with what I had read about it. But find I'm here to stay for a while.

Ive played Fallout 4 all day, its not as good as New Vegas, but will do. My favorites are, FO New Vegas, FO2, FO1, FO4 and FO3. Or who knows Im only 7 hour or so in.

I've been waiting for Fallout 4 for a long time. I told myself, as others have said, that I wouldn't do Day 1 again. I certainly didn't do it for ESO; in fact, I waited over a year before I bought it and then only bought the Imperial Edition when I could get it on sale for the less than $30. And I've really enjoyed ESO, until recently.

But I do love Bethesda games - and I mean love them.

So I bought Fallout 4 and downloaded it yesterday. Started playing last night and, with the help of a nice dark coffee, got a good eight hours in already. My first thoughts:

Choosing to wait is probably a good idea.

    The Good.

Fallout 4 does what Bethesda does best: it creates an open world that you can explore for a good hundred hours or so. It's visually appealing (particularly if toggle off the stupid green on-screen map indicators).

There appears to be (at 8 hours) a lot of content. The quests have been cool so far. The beginning sucks you in nicely.

The combat system is an improvement over Fallout 3 but still feels really clunky to me. But that's okay because combat isn't the main reason I play Fallout 4 (if I really want to play an FPS, I click on my Borderlands II icon).

I can build my own house or settlement.

Legendary enemies really make the game fun! And hard! And fun! (Take note, Zenimax!)

    The Bad.

Again, Bethesda does what they do best here and they've lived up to their reputation for releasing a game full of bugs on Day 1.

Apart from the many "I'm stuck behind furniture and I'm going to die" moments, there's the lag at certain locations and while using certain weapons. And I have pretty righteous computer with an 8 gb Raedon graphics card. Sigh.

I have no idea why, why Bethesda cannot make decent walking animations. I mean, seriously, the female animations are the worst. Again.

Honestly, I was hoping for ... something different. Yes, things have changed, but Fallout 4 feels a little bit like Bethesda just released a new and improved version of Fallout 3. It's just a bit too ... familiar? If you played a lot of Fallout 3, some things will just be known to you.

I'm not disappointed I bought it on Day 1, but don't be too disappointed if you didn't. And no, I haven't cancelled my ESO sub yet. :)

War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

The heroes during times of war, are nothing but mass murderers during times of peace.

You forgot to put "in my opinion" at the end of your last sentence.

Just saying, because nothing you mentioned is empirical fact. It's all just opinion, and mine happens to be the complete opposite of yours.

Also, just an FYI; The Elder Scrolls suffering under the "fade into oblivion" threat is quite far off. Monetarily speaking, and with the growth of the player base from game to game, there's zero threat of The Elder Scrolls fading in any way for years and years.

So I agree with the other people who posted after you; let's just keep this discussion about Fallout/Elder Scrolls/Zenimax/Bethesda.

The Witcher has no place here.

    ;)

    Edit = As far as The Apocalypse of The Elder Scolls franchise" is concerned;
    - Fallout 4 has 434,000 current players on Steam.
    - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim currently has 26,000 players.
    - Fallout: New Vegas has 8,500 current players.
    - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has a meager 7,300 current players.

The Elder Scrolls is in no danger. :D (And those numbers are only for Steam. Add in the consoles and the numbers in favor of Bethesda get much larger)

    Sauce.

Geralt is a major reason I haven't played The Witcher since the 1st in the series.
Bad enough a rpg where I can't create my own character but to have to play that jerk is too much.
There were other reasons why I don't particularly like the series but Geralt turned it from a buy when on sale game to a wouldn't touch with a barge pole game.

Picked up my copy of Fallout 4 today (for Xbox). Just started the game and graphically it's quite impressive. Haven't played enough to form any further definitive opinions. But I'll be splitting my time between both games for a while. At a minimum I need to fire up ESO sometime today to train my horses and check my research status.

Agreed. Always log on to research, loot, launder, sell, train horse. Then I get sucked into a quest or something interesting. 2 hours later I remember I was going to try that other game.....
