Should Cyrodiil have more objectives than the Keeps and Resources?

    Cyrodiil is fine with just the Keeps, Resources, and Scrolls as objectives.
    This is still something we're actively discussing regarding town capture, benefits, and other "flags" in Cyrodiil.

    I do not get how you can say you're discussing this while the lag and fps drops are ruining the game massively.. Wouldn't it be better to just focus for once and only on fixing the current problems instead of adding more stuff that might cause even more unpleasent things?

    I'm assuming that you play on PC? I haven't had lag and FPS drop issues on Xbox outside of massive Elder Scrolls runs. Even full group 24 v 24 fights don't lag for me except on the days when the entire game is having issues like last weekend.

    But I dont think +X points for holding Cropsford or whatnot would make a difference.

    If there's no secondary rewards or buffs for taking a new objective, people wont show unless the location is overrun by cross swords.

    Most PvP'ers dont care about the scoring. Many stopped caring about the leaderboard to in 2.1, after the massive nerf to end of campaign rewards. What do I get for being top 2% in a winning faction? Some coins, well-fitted sets no one uses and 5 wall repair kits :joy:

    Just look at campaigns with different scoring systems. Didn't change player behaviour in PvP. Your faction still goes for keeps mainly, because nearest place to get action, because emp and buffs. Faction still takes scrolls on occasion because buffs, old habit, but mainly because it attracts hordes of enemies for potential AP and large fights.

    New objectives needs to do more than just add a point to the faction here and there, or no reason to bother.

    You have a good point. People need to start caring about winning the campaigns and having a good war, but it's difficult to score the game in a way to encourage that. I used to run with Wolves of Stonefalls and no one cared to actually win. They only cared about generating AP for themselves and trying to push an Emperor rotation.

    exactly what happens here, imagine like Glurgoblahblah the destroyer (from temple district) just smashing down into the fray, massacring the players where if they want this keep, they HAVE to work together first to kill the massive daedra. give the daedra much more power and health than usual dark anchors

    The other day as I was riding across Cyrodiil, it occurred to me that there should really be a lot more farms and homesteads around, although most of them should probably be burned-out, abandoned, or occupied by bandits or soldiers.

    So that got me thinking about this thread.

    What if there were a ton of burned-out farms across the map. At the start of a campaign they could all be occupied by bandits or Imperials. You clear the farm of the NPC mobs to get an AP tick, and make some friendly civilians and a friendly guard or two appear.

    If an enemy player comes along and clears out all of the civilians and guards, they get the AP tick and their own alliance's guards and civilians appear.

    Now here's where it could get interesting. If the farm stays in your alliance's possession for a certain period of time, it is rebuilt automatically (or you can use repair kits to speed this along - I'd lean towards door repair kits rather than wall, because the farm buildings are made of wood). At that point, it starts to provide benefits to your alliance's closest keep. Maybe you get extra guards at the keep for each nearby intact farm you have. Maybe you get strengthened walls or gates. Maybe all friendly players fighting within a certain radius of that keep (enough to encompass the keep's resources) gain a small buff to health. I don't know - something that's not massive, but is helpful, and makes it harder for enemies to take the keep.

    I'd also suggest that these farms not have map markers indicating where they are, so they're just scattered around, and you don't know which farms might be held by enemy alliances without scouting around to see. At each keep, though, you can check to see how many farms are supplying the keep, and maybe if you open up your map while inside the keep (but only while inside the keep) you can see on it the locations of those farms (but not the locations of any other farms in the area that are held by bandits or another alliance).

    Just an idea that a PVP noob thinks would be fun. Any experienced PVP players can feel free to poke holes in it.

    @UrQuan - This is a great idea and how you described it initially reminded me of Domination from Unreal Tournament, where you hold certain areas and accumulated points to win the match. This is a good way to incorporate that type of play into ESO and Cyrodiil. Lol I'm excited for this idea, make it happen @ZOS_BrianWheeler ! (Please)

    Do you worry about your mortgage or car insurance over any other bill you might need to pay?

    The idea that they cant have wide spread opinions and discussions about different aspects of the game and issues facing it. Because of one particular issue is just down right absurd.

    Interesting - I've never played Unreal Tournament, so I can't say that it was my inspiration (I was actually mostly thinking about how in real life you needed farms to supply castles or manor houses, and if you took/burned all of the farms in the countryside it was very detrimental to the local lord and his men). If something similar worked well in Unreal Tournament, though, maybe it means that my little idea might be a good one :)

    This is exactly correct, and presents a very interesting contradiction in player behavior. In ESO and many games in general, scores and "numbers games" drive a lot of gameplay designs and player activity. In ESO, players are typically pretty concerned with their character stats and all the things that can affect them (e.g. gear, racial passives, Champ Constellations, etc). Trials leaderboards are scored to encourage competition among groups of players, which people seem generally satisfied with (speaking of the concept here, not the implementation, which could use some work). BUT! When it comes to Cyrodiil, all of a sudden the scoring system isn't really a big deal for players. Why is that? What can that tell us about how players view PvP and what they want to get out of Cyrodiil? And then how can that inform the design of new features?

    I have some answers to those questions ("if you're good at something, never do it for free"), but hopefully it helps frame the issue to help get people thinking.

    With all the performance issues, what they should do is make the Cyrodiil map alliance-specific PVE with a lot of smaller PVP and PVE battleground map access points with their own unique objectives and challenges. Invasion. Capture the Flag. Survival. Lots of different things with different rewards.

    Then put tent city housing in the zone, because it's really the only zone large and flat enough to accommodate large player camps. Then you're all close enough to each other to organize PVP events while living in the most relevant part of Tamriel.

    There's no shame in reworking Cyrodiil if it results in a zone more people enjoy visiting.

    It would have been nice if they would have stuck to their original design and made people work for access to the Imperial City. We might have kept interest in it for more than a month and Cyrodiil would not have been a ghost town the entire time.

    I definitely disagree. To me it feels very empty, and not enough like a formerly-well-populated heartland of the Empire that has now been turned into a war zone fought over and crisscrossed by multiple armies.
