Special events in campaign cycles

In a post about the future of the Alliance War and playing in Cyrodiil by @ZOS_BrianWheeler‌, there was the following:

Alliance War Future – After Imperial City launches, we are looking to add more content into Cyrodiil in some of the emptier locations. We will, of course, continue adding to the Keep system, too. We’re also looking to add more Alliance-specific gear to give more options for individual identity to the Aldmeri, Ebonheart and Daggerfall communities.

What do my fellow players think about occasionally having special events for the duration of a campaign cycle?

I am not suggesting these in any detail, but rather sketching them to give an idea of the direction toward which I am looking:

The Wyrm Cult Resurrected. New quest objectives , mobs/camps, and dangers related to a new leader that is rallying the scattered forces of Mannimarco. New dangers, in addition to a more dangerous landscape to traverse, might include additional perils such as curses or disease effects that show up as debuffs for your character. New rewards for the alliance that does the most to upset the plans of this renewed threat to Tamriel. Some (or all) keeps would begin the new campaign under the control of the Wyrm, who would use terrible tactics and vile powers to repel even the strongest and most persistent attackers.

The Standard of Akatosh. Or some other artifact that sounds consistent with Elder Scrolls lore. It is placed somewhere really hard assault, and whichever alliance gets it gains some major buffs but also draws the attention of some NPC group that will attack and harass the soldiers and keeps of whoever is holding it at a given time.

OK, well, hopefully you get the idea? What do you think?

I guess some of these could run longer than a single campaign cycle, as I was thinking of the 90 day variety when this first occurred to me. Might be OK for single cycle on a 30 day campaign, but even then might want to make it two or three.

These could spice things up and also make each campaign a little different.

I like these ideas. Sounds like something they could indeed use the Special Rules Campaigns for. One thing I would suggest though, is that perhaps some Special Rules campaigns can only be set as Guest, so that the focus is directly on those gameplay rules, and not used as an Emperor farm.

You could also chuck some of these ideas as World Events into existing campaigns, where the event only lasts for a few days as opposed to the whole duration of the campaign.
