Favourite and Least Favourite Elder Scrolls Races and why.

Fun little thread about favourite and least favourite race within the world of Elder Scrolls and why these are your favourite or least favourite.

I will start with my FAVOURITE which will defiantly have to be the Argonians. Their naming culture is hilarious, quite often their dialog and mannerisms can be hilarious, and even the way they run is just pretty amusing. Don't tend to play as them often on the Elder Scrolls but have always had a soft spot. They tend to be loyal within reason, and also very unselfish at the best of times.

My least favourite race is going to have to be the Dark Elves. I used to love these guys, but as time went on I found them to be more and more selfish, overly sarcastic, narcissistic, vain, out of touch and cruel, what with the slavery of others particularly my above favourites.

Could have gone more in depth into reasons including lore etc, but tried to simplify my thread a bit for the people without such a knowledge.

I like the imperial race most because of the racial passives and the bonus of being able to craft imperial stuff without the motif. I dislike argonian race because I just think they are ugly.

Favorite: Dunmer. They are a fallen people. One a great and powerful race now living in ghettos all over Tamriel and looked down upon. Great story there and I love a redemption story.

Least Favorite: High Elf. Stuck up racists. No need to really say more.

I love the khajiit for two reasons. First is because they are cats and I like cats. Second is because I actually like their culture and their mode of thinking is simply fascinating!

Least favorite race? Orcs. Cuz they're ugly. I know that's shallow reasoning but its true. And also their culture of brawny, crude-looking tribal strongholds just seem thuggish at best despite their code of honor.

The beautiful orismer, of course! I really dig the lore. Mauloch? Malacath? Trinimac? Do Goblins share the same opinions? Its all very cool as there is a ton of fluidity. The Seige of Orsinium, broken but not defeated

Argonians is by far my favorite race in ESO. Their dialogues and their mannerism is something unique you don't see in a lot of games. Too bad they don't have the best racial abilities, but from a character perspective they are awesome.

Nords follow a close second on some awesome dialogues. Here are just few of my favorites:


"I heard these mushrooms are delicious, but I'm not going to eat them. They glow like lanterns! That's not appropriate mushroom behavior! I disapprove."

Or my favorite thus far:


"Boy couldn't find his own arse with a clairvoyance spell. takes after his *** mother."

Argonians and Nords are the best for me

My favourite race is the Dark Elves, pretty much for the same reasons as Locket above, plus having read The Forgotten Realms series has made me a fan of Dark Elves in general. Least favourite is the Red Guards, mainly because I know the least about them out of all the races, though I don't really dislike any of them

Argonian master race

Second dark elf, (house redoran specificly) greath lore around them

Least favorite high elfs and imperials, to stuck up

Inappropriate mushroom behavior and lack of pants reasons aside I have to go with Argonians and Kajiit for favorite.

Nords and orcs pretty close behind.



I find high and wood elves kinda meh. Snottier than ever elves and their cousins... "we don't eat plants" yes that's nice.. "did I mention we don't eat plants." ...yes great. "not a plant anywhere on my plate... not even a brussel sprout." can we talk about something else?

I played Final Fantasy XI from 2005 until Nov 2013. I was Mithra, which is a cat race. Played Final Fantasy XIV from August 2013 to present, and I'm Mi'qote, which is also a cat race. Keeping with tradition, I am Khajiit.

Least Favorite: Argonian
I'm upset that this race is ideal for healing, but I could find myself to like their appearance.

Um.... severe alt-a-holic here, so my favorite would have to be whatever race I'm playing.

Don't care about passives or racials or any of that crap - that's not why I play, and given that it's an MMORPG it's all subject to change anyway.

Most recent rollup was an old lady orc; on another thread someone speculated that "elderly female" was probably the least played character type (cross racial) so I thought to myself what "little old lady from pasadena" could I roll up to strike fear in the hearts of other characters.

Anyway... love dunmer because .... Morrowind.

Love argonians because ... well a lot if it is Twin Lamps from Morrowind and Sees-All-Colors from ESO.

Love nords? Um, no, not really. I guess I do have a least favorite race.

Love Orsimer and hated/loathed and generally really disliked how they were portrayed in Oblivion. Love the honor / semi- Samurai vibe.

More later when I properly gather my irritation at how bosmer culture is mangled in ESO

I've always loved wood elves from books and such so it's awesome to play as one.

Least Favorite: Argonian
When Skyrim first came out I was an Argonian and some kind of bug happened where in the first major town i was accused of some crime. It ended in fisticuffs with the guard and me coming out on top. Took his sword as more guards came and fought them running in circles until I was in my mid 20's for levels. Darn racist guards.

Least Favorite: Hmmmm I really don't have one! But the race I've played the least of in all the Scrolls games would be Redguard. Also I won't play female toons simply because my characters are always my avatars in game and as I am not a lady (or a daedric prince) I just can't bring myself to do it, though I have tried.

Very good answers! To be honest I found it harder to pick a favourite than a least favourite, I must admit I too very rarely create Redguard characters. Might have had Falmer (Snow Elves) as my favourite but they don't appear much within the series so went with the Argonians!

Should give the post an awesome badge then ; ) I must admit I prefer a good post like this than threads full of trouble makers that spoil the essence of the Elder Scrolls games :")

This one likes Khajiit because they are sly and clever...

But actually it's hard to pick a favorite. I like aspects of all of the races, and I have characters of all races. For me the top would probably be Khajiit, Imperials, and Argonians. For the Khajiit and Argonians it's because they have such distinct cultures and aesthetics, and for the Imperials it's because they're clearly a pastiche of Roman and Ancient Greek culture/aesthetics and I've always been fascinated with classical history.

For least favorite, I'd have to go with Altmer. That's partly a holdover from how much I hated them in Skyrim (and for the record, I don't hate them in ESO), and partly just from me finding them generally somewhat boring.

Khajiit is purrffect.

The claws, the tail, their attitude towards life, and the Moon Sugar. Yes all the best rolled into one. See you in the garden.

Argonians got a tail-up on that too.

Others are mostly blah because there merely the same layout just different color skins & hair style in regards to looks (though Wood Elf has at least one hair style change I like).
