I want an optional toggle to switch between Gamertags/PSN names and character names at will to be displayed.

What is the POINT of having character names if we can only see #ID names? I don't get it.

I honestly don't care what other people choose as their character names. The point is, I chose a name for my character, and that's the name I'd like to present to other characters. WHY CAN'T I DO THAT?

One other thing that is curious. The emperor leaderboards show the character name but everyone sees your GT. How would anyone recognize you?

Would rather have characters names instead of some obnoxious sign in name, though certainly wouldn't stop people from using similarly obnoxious character names, so at the end of the day it probably doesn't matter too much

I used to play DCUO....where the character name was used for pretty much everything - display, chat, invites etc.

You could easily inspect a character (if they were within range) to see their PSN.

Have to say I wasn't sure what weird dimension I'd entered when I got out of my cell in the Wailing Prison and saw "FluffyBunnyKilla" running around in front of me.

DCUO really went down hill fast, but that is one thing they got right

So on console what is the point of naming them if no one else sees the names? I think they should have character names displayed on screen, but on social areas like group, guild, and mail they should have (Character Name@PSN/GT) the way it is now ruins the RP side of the game.

What's also odd is having a friend in group who logs out to play another character still be listed in group but offline, then if you add to group it lists name twice. Potentially you could have a large group with 8 of the same person. If they list as PSN tag, then why does the system differentiate between characters as opposed to gamer tag?

Given that some of these PSN names could have been chosen a decade ago, I'm willing to give benefit of the doubt that some would choose otherwise by now. Also, wouldn't it be much easier to differentiate the maturity of said players if that is indeed what they choose?

Could also see it used for the less mature to cleverly alter Kajhit or Argonian names, but even that would be better then gamer tags. I for one would rather see a M'Ilf Hunter, as opposed to xXMiLfHuNtErXx

Bump - this ID thing is still terrible. Makes RP and immersion rather difficult.

I like seeing Gamertags/PSN names instead of character names, do not change it or add an optional toggle.

I think gamertags are mandatory on the console. How are you supposed to make friends outside of the game when all you see is their dumb made up name. i would rather see their dumb made up gamer tag so i can keep playing with the ones i like and avoid the ones i dont.

having it character names further increases the divide between the console social connection and the in game social aspects.

pc doesnt have external gamer tags on a system that requires them to log in to play. but the console does

This is really all that ZOS needs to do. They don't have to change from using PSN/GT where the "first parties" want them. All they really need to do is add the character name for the presentation for the reticule display and places where character information is relevant on the console.

well it does, just as your account name is shown, Imagine if you ran around the PC version with your log in name as is shown on the guild tab? PMAN85 for example, The PC has an account name just like the PS4 does, exactly the same deal.

I feel ESO is in NO WAY catering to RPG gamers on console, it's just here to sell to people who skip all quest text and run around farming and then the say text chat is immersion breaking? hah biggest lie ever... i mean i'm sure i heard Hannah Montana have a concert last night in Audaron...

FF14 system is great. You get to make an in game character name that fits the setting and your PSN ID is displayed on your character sheet when you inspect someone. Since FF14 allows PS4 and PC players to play together only those on PSN will ever see PSN tags.

I would much prefer that system. My own PSN ID is not suited AT ALL for a fantasy setting... if it was sci-fi it would be less of a problem. The name is also like... over a decade old too

I've seen this argument before, and it doesn't work for me.

I don't care what other people name their characters. What I care about is how I present my character to the world. If I name my character "Gilderblatt Schmoopickle", then thats the name I want people to see. I couldn't care less what other people choose to name their characters.

I'm not up to play with regards to race names and such....where does Gilderblatt Schmoopickle fit in? Doesn't strike me as Kajit....possibly Dunmer or Nord?

I hear you on the making a PSN name when you're young and regretting it later. I can't be fully accepted as a serious player, or an intimidating one at that, with a PSN name like Talimabean. It would be nice to have a toggle all switch.

Trouble is, on PS4 there is no way to ever change your gamer tag. So if you were 12 and chose a stupid name 8 years ago, you are now 20, and stuck with it.

With digital downloads, PS Plus, trophies, creating an entire new account isn't an option.[/quote]

This isn't my issue - but I am an old-school Role Player, and not having my characters name up chafes. It frankly sucks seeing so many characters running around with stupid PSN tags "Saggyscrot345" and such. C'mon guys.... this HAS to be changed.
