We can't have addons on console that's why we are asking to see character's name instead of Gamertag and PSN IDs, a toggle option would be nice, though I voted for no options because, in my opinion, it should have always be character names that display, especially in a MMORPG and a TES game. ;)

I picked the first option before I saw the second; options are always good.

After playing for a few days on the console, I have to say that the gamertags are bothering me less now that I've realized there are very few aspects of the game that're RPG on the console. From default area voice chat to gamertags-only to lack of text chat, I'm convinced that "immersion" was discarded as important for the console versions in favor of the social aspects. Good? Bad? Pure opinion.

I'd still rather see character names, but meh. Once I understood that ZOS decided not to treat the console versions like an RPG my expectations changed. I'm having fun, but I don't feel invested like I would in a "normal" RPG.

Probably my only complaint about the game besides the lack of text/ VC nightmare.
The current system is horrible for a ton of reasons.
-multiple characters all with the same name to the public; -gender specific ids contradicting character genders; offensive and nonsensical names, etc.
i keep hearing ZoS is all about immersion, but standing next to an elf today named '*** explosion' was not immersive.
It should work like DCUO did on ps3.
Character names are what everyone sees, but you can view someones psn/gamertag by inspecting or interacting with them.

Given that this is an MMORPG, I firmly believe the character names need to be displayed.

When creating my Redguard, I took the time to think about the name and how it fit into the lore. I wanted it to be appropriate to my character's race, how I intended on playing him, and the Elder Scrolls world. I didn't do this so I could sign-in and have people refer to my character as, "FilteredRiddle."

Some people care less about world immersion than others, but we all signed up to play an RPG. While I realize that not everyone puts the same degree of effort into their character names, it is still an important aspect of our characters in the in-game world's lore. I was a bit shocked when I spawned and saw stuff like "kittylumpkins," "peepeeinyourbutthole," and, "wAtsURcUpSiZ" instead of Tiber, Vivec, and Auri-El.

Ideally, all surrounding player character names would show up in the menu of people with whom we recently interacted. Players could click on the character names and be directed to player cards from there, if they so chose. That would allow an interaction between the character and the player, without harming the immersion.

I like the toggle if for no other reason then make both type of players happy.

I was very confused as to why the character names aren't displayed instead of our psn name. This is an mmorpg and it makes no sense to have it the way it is right now. Please at least give us the option to display our character names instead!
I really enjoy playing eso but every time I see some lame gamer Tag it really pulls me out of the experience. Which is sad.

Another thing I find interesting in the stance quoted around about confusion is that they chose to display account names for the sake of less confusion and then whenever I craft something it says made by my character's name for everyone to see tradewise.

PSN: Dying_Digitally I'm new to the game as of console release and I play on NA server.

I would like the option because I realized today that if I couldn't change to gamertags sometimes, I would have a difficult time identifying my xbox friends in game with the stable of characters we will eventually have.

I put a good but of thought into my character names on PC and was heavily dishearten not seeing them on console. But aside from my own vanity, seeing the wacky and sometimes offensive gamer tags really takes me out of the element. Elder Scrolls games have always been among the most immersive, and I'd like to read the thought process behind making the decision to not not even offer an option/toggle.

yeah I thought an eso world doesn't need all those dumb and numbered brat names in it. if Bethesda wants to clean up selling useless vanity items and fantasy world stuff to players who like to immerse themselves in these worlds than they have to create a toggle. a toggle is perfect I believe. I'm iWELDs which is not bad but even I feel it has no place in a fantasy rpg world.

Even if we can display our characters names in the future, we'll still have stupid/non immerssive names. I've seen some character's names in the guild menu and some people typed them like this: "name" instead of "Name". I think you can write them like this too: "nAmE".

So, some names will look like IDs or gamertag anyway, but at least we shall see some cool character names and people can see ours too. Besides, we'll get rid of numbers and _ at last! Having to check guild menu to see which charcater is playing a mate is so ridiculous...

Elder Scrolls is an MMORPG. ZOS should have realized that way before implementing this BS PSN/Xbox gamertags showing instead of character names. COMMON Sense ZOS, Its just common sense that majority of the players want their Character name displayed.

You need to translate the Zenimax spin/BS machine.

They tried also to imply Microsoft was the problem with character names.

Put simply , using the ID's was easier for them. One less thing to code correctly on the PS4 and the Xbox platform.

Same as not having to code remapping of controls , nor text chat , for two different platforms.

It's basically cutting corners every way they can.

I voted for the options one.

Anyways I really don't like how people cant see my characters names and instead my gamertag. This and the lack of text chat sure do hurt RP.

I was wondering why I kept seeing ridiculous names on other players.......

Thankfully my gamertag is gender netural and therefore regardless of what sex my toon is, the gamertag does not go against the image of the toon. However others do face this problem, whether the gamertag is more feminine and they are playing a male toon, or vice versa.

Just see the PSN ID instead charaname is a MMORPG killer! Voted for option 1. Its ok when you see the PSN ID if u send someone a friendrequest but they should change it like it is right now.

I have to say, I absolutely love this game but my only complaint is not being able to see my character name on-screen.. defeats the purpose of creating a character name; especially when you can create up to 8 characters and if a name is chosen already the game won't allow you to choose it.. and each character created in-game would ineviditably have the same psn id on-screen visible to other players - and personally, i don't like other players knowing my psn id name for security purposes - this may be a deciding factor whether i continue to play this game in the future, if this matter isn't resolved

While options are good, it'd get confusing to be in a group and have people calling out someone's random PSN name when I'm only able to see thier in game name. I'm 100-percent for only seeing character names displayed and being able to look at a person's profile to see thier PSN ID. This worked for DCUO, it worked for FFXIV and it will work for EQ Next. No reason to have to look at names some may have selected over a decade ago.

I would prefer character names, but wouldn't mind gamer tags if it were consistent.

A toggle option (that was actually consistent) would be fine, as well.

I don't quite understand the need to create a character name that, as far as I've seen, is only used in one place where other people can see it (the Alliance leaderboards). I'm sure there are other places names are used, but I haven't seen them.

It's the inconsistency that's baffling - like 2 different people were in charge of different aspects of the game, and they didn't ever communicate with each other (and no one above them was doing the basic job of making sure things from different departments were in sync).

If I created a character to reflect my gamer tag I could only play a Khajit wearing Argonian armor. That's limiting but at least my gamer tag is not embarrassing. I voted no, but, as I have said earlier, choice is good so options would be okay, though I expect the same stupid tags would show up anyway.

On Xbox if you play Neverwinter which has your character name shown instead of your gamertag you run into names worse than XxSwagtasticxX so I don't mind it completely. That said if they don't show your character name besides on items you create why do they lock a name after 1 person picks it... Makes finding a name a pain.

My PSN ID is OsCGunslinger. Not exactly immature or offensive; but definitely does not represent any of my characters.

    My Orc: Nugrab gro-Murug
    My Khajiit - K'Vari
    My Argonian - Lets-many-die
    My Breton - Mercer Vanneiri

Just because not everyone will make appropriate names, doesn't mean there are not a lot of people who wouldn't have much more appropriate character names.

By making this change, they will have removed 1 instance of OsCGunslinger (which is always displayed now no matter the character I am playing) and added 4 appropriately named characters; obviously they aren't all be playing at once, but that is a 400% improvement.

I think many more people are like me and have PSN/XBL IDs that perhaps mean something to them as a whole, but in game, has 0 meaning and they name their characters appropriately in game.

It would definitely have a positive effect on immersion, even if there are still some who will name their characters in appropriately.

My social guild of over 100 players has characters primarily named appropriately. So this small scale improvement I mention above would definitely have an effect in my instances and guild. I do not believe we are an anomaly either.

This is really all that ZOS needs to do. They don't have to change from using PSN/GT where the "first parties" want them. All they really need to do is add the character name for the presentation for the reticule display and places where character information is relevant on the console.
