With 1.6 the requirement of individual skill got lowered significantly but still you have to be stupid if you think that it doesnt matter how good the players in your group are.
The leader can't call out everything, he can't see everything. You need people who can still think themselves while following the crown.

That's what I love about Vehemence, these guys all chip in when it comes to calling out enemy movement in TS, and it can go from 10 people trying to talk at once to battle comms in a split second. Very well disciplined and team oriented, and it shines via gameplay.

All these people talking about how they can't put up a fight when they're not with their group because they aren't set up for it ... it's like they don't know there's an addon that will swap gear and skills with a couple of button pushes & mouse clicks. Stop making excuses.
Unsubbed and no longer playing, but still checking the Alliance War forum for the lulz.

That addon didn't work well for me for some reason, never changed my skills properly. And to be fair, I would change my skills on the go to duel people but more often than not I'm suck in combat because my group is fighting or because the game hates me.

I roam plenty on a more optimized 1v1 / 1vX build. I merely pointed out that if I am caught on a group spec (ty combat bug) I'm gonna have a bad time. Why this is particularly offensive to you I do not know. I've done it plenty to people, I know the signs. Nothing like tackling a high ranked sorc who tries to streak/impulse me down. Hell I remember catching Jones alone a few times, and I think the hope was I'd purge on the Walls and kill myself?

    1) Not every time someone gets separated is it intentional, or for long. (e.g.; Crashed to desktop. Reloaded out of Cyrodiil, now have to traverse from gate to where group is)
    2) Not every person has the in game funds to have a set of gear for solo play, as not every gear set compliments both solo and group play.
    3) Not every player in the large groups has practice at solo play. As mentioned earlier, practice makes perfect, and they are often far from it.
    4) With the rest of the group in combat, as soon as they're back in zone that solo member is often in and out of combat repeatedly and can't change their setup due to the combat bug.

It's like you blatantly go out of your way to condense some rather voluminous explanations down to the basest level of absurdity. Are you just trying to troll, or not get it?

I know Germantrocity, even with his extreme preference towards 1v1 and 1vX gameplay, at least gets it and understands why, yes, there are going to be legitimate reasons those group players are not optimized for 1v1 gameplay.

This one suggests you try sweet moonsugar, it will never let you down.
Skooma is a meaner mistress, she is not so kind.

This one must say thank you to all in the blue and the yellow who have given this one pause in busy places to take a quick catnap. Please remember, that without opponents, there is no sports league. If this one met any of you in the RL, this one would buy you a beer. This goes for those this one has been lucky enough to overcome, and those who have bested this one.
    Sincerely, this one thanks you.

With respect to the bulk of this thread, this one believes there is a difference between game and playstyle, but in general it is a function of tactics to bring to bear an overwhelming force on a portion of your opponents ranks . . . . As an example you see several times in this video, if you are outnumbered in a place a successful commander (Sandy, Bulba, others as well on my team and certainly in the numbers of successful blues and yellows) will bring his/her forces to bear on a portion of the opposing team in sequence 24v 40ish becomes 24v10 -> v4 -> v12 -vXX , . . . . "turn around they are ressing".

This one also suggests that YOU play as you enjoy, YOU make your goals and decide which of the fine rewards you are seeking (victory on the team scoreboard, personal kill counts, personal AP, very nice apparel and color coordination, trolling in chat or on the forae (though this one believes most say "forums" rather than the archaic Imperial . . . but this one digresses)). But if it is your intention to win on the scoreboard, a coordinated team with builds representing specialized roles and clear leadership may be something you decide to strive for.

This one humbly suggests that true "zerging" and learning to follow direction may be a baby step in the direction of more advanced organization. True "zerging", this one thinks, is being just a large group of everyone doing their own thing in relative proximity. Even solid players just doing their own 1v1 thing in a group is a rabble (a tough rabble to be sure). Organization opens the opportunity to specialize. Specialization with discipline will be difficult to overcome.

This one thanks you all. This ones leadership, colleagues, and perhaps most of all this ones opponents, for without you this one would have nothing to do but play against arbitrary dance steps and powers of PvE.

ok now maybe another few years until a post . . . . maybe

What context is that in? Did you get a good prox. det in on them or what happened there?

What I would like to point out, and is OFTEN lost in the shuffle, is that these group based players are often running builds that sacrifice a lot of personal capability and survivability to be able to fight in their teams. They work as interlocking pieces and not self contained units intentionally, that leaves some of those builds and group members extremely, extremely susceptible to 1vXing and 1v1ing.

As an example, I ran with TSym briefly back in the day and I would never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever go out solo in the group build that was necessary for Coron Bale's team. 1v1 and even 1vX it was trash. It was utterly useless and couldn't solo a wolf except with heavy attacks. When locked together in the full raid, at the height of the TSym meta, that guild could take V4s and flatten full raids of highly experienced players because they were part of a bigger puzzle that was a greater whole than the sum of its parts. Hijinx did this often as well (my old Hijinx build was basically Impulse / Talons alternating spam on one bar and a raft of support abilities on the other), and many of us would completely regear just to walk out solo.

In 1.4, for example, I'd get TRASHED by a Sypher clone (and Sypher himself, of course) if I ran into them 1v1 with my group build. It was the way of the world.

Add to that my (and many other group players) 1v1 skills are pretty rusty. We usually don't spend hours on end dueling or soloing. And for the same reason I'm not good at the violin, I'm not good at that. No practice = no perfection.

OTOH, I watched a stream of Sypher trying to help Aetcha push hard for emperor on their AD toons. They got a bunch of Legend guys and people they trusted as good players and formed a near full raid.

And they got wiped over and over and over and over again by the Nexus raid. Why? They didn't have the practice and the tactical experience to handle it. Great players, one and all, but they did not have the builds that complimented each other. They did not have the organization to insure they had those skills firing off, and in the end it didn't work.

And there's nothing there in that anecdote that makes any of those players bad at the game, they just did not meet that one objective.

    And that's how Cyrodiil is.

I just wanted to bring some of my own personal perspective to this in, hopefully, a constructive manner.

    This is a great post.

I swap my gear AND skills when I run solo or in a group -- and I ask players in the group to do the same. You have to optimize for different things otherwise you are playing in a sub-optimal way.

    Slavery by consent ;)

This one would have you note . . . .

This is a lament echoed throughout history as a fine, noble, and brave warrior culture is defeated by more organized soldiery. The seemingly inevitable tide of history is that better command and control wins even against odds, even after setbacks. Spartan and later Macedonian phalanxes, Roman Legions add the element of a table of organization and equipment and logistics, and Spanish Tercios mixed units with pike and musket . . . . all these very successful formations were derided in their day as a "slavery". (Tercios being a particularly interesting counter example as the members were by and large volunteers and professional as opposed to hereditary or compulsory . . .)

Modern machinery put paid to formations. But ask any soldier how important an edge is modern communications and task specialization.

Here, among us who may "rez" though, there is very little penalty for being on the wrong end of the argument.

But this one may be just dazed in a skooma dream . . . also this one is often chastised for "pugging out". Hmm this one would prefer the phrase "being impetuous in pursuit of the adversary" . . . . alas it is too verbose for battle coms.

EDIT: as a forum noob, this one is wondering why this post did not get tacked to the end?????
EDIT #2 . . . . this one see that the post WAS tacked where expected. This one also compulsively added punctuation . . . .

Yes, it is ad hominem. Or if loosely translated: to attack ones character rather than answer their argument.

While my comment was admittedly rash and rude, you must understand how repeatedly calling myself and my friends no-skill slaves/monkeys might incite this kind of reaction. I implore you to read up and decide for yourself if what this person said was in any way constructive, and whether they even are worthy of your defense.

    Excellent video, @x99Needles.
The last fight in the video shows VE's skill: fighting superior numbers, our tactics and teamwork won the battle.

I would love to see some of the haters try to function in a large group. It takes alot of coordination to pull off what we can do - that is, outmaneuver our enemies while taking and defending keeps against superior numbers. We back-cap for fun.

@Da Sandman Find me something to teabag.

    Love it.

Please stop saying haters, why i should hate you for? did you killed my family in real life to hate you, i guess no.So there is no any hate toward you. Zerging don't demand any skill , you just executing the order of your leader , you don't need to think for yourself, you just obey and execute that's it.

    English.
English is not my native language. So if you feel you have the need to mock my English skills, i feel bad for you.

Bit of advice, perhaps you shouldn't attempt to be a rampant troll on open public forums if it's not your native language. Just ends up looking really pathetic and confusing. Generally I would be respectful about the language disparity, but you brought it on yourself bro.

All these people talking about how they can't put up a fight when they're not with their group because they aren't set up for it ... it's like they don't know there's an addon that will swap gear and skills with a couple of button pushes & mouse clicks. Stop making excuses.

Oh, I understand completely why there are reasons why folks aren't optimized for 1v1 gameplay, I'm merely pointing out that there are options available to those people to give themselves a fighting chance in those situations. As for you specific points:

    1) This is true, and upon returning to Cyrodiil the player should asses the situation & decide whether they want to risk venturing out in their group spec or not. It's lazy game play to just mount up & ride off in a group spec if the group is well away from the closest transport spot. If they get ganked while trying to rejoin the group then that's the result of a choice they made.

    2) with the current AP to gold exchange rate I find it hard to believe that a member of an organized group wouldn't have sufficient funds for a solo gear set. Supposing this is possible, why haven't thier guild mates helped them out? I'm in a couple of small guilds and we're always hooking each other up with gear. The gear doesn't have to be all gold (or even purple) to be beneficial, it just needs to give the right bonuses to meet the need. This isn't even much of a gear issue as it is about slotting skills that will help an organized group player rejoin the group.

    3) The only way they'll get better is if they experience it. To not even try & make excuses about not being in the right spec is (again) lazy.

    4) This is a problem, however in my experience you've got to be pretty close to the fight to get the *in combat* message. I'm in a small group regularly, but I rarely have trouble swapping gear/skills even when my group mates are fighting. Chalk this up as one of ESO's many mysteries.

Here's the flip side to my position on this: people who primarily play in organized groups often respond to complaints from other players by telling them to group up, change thier spec, and get on TS. Why is that response acceptable to you, but mine is "condens[ing] some rather voluminous explanations down to the basest level of absurdity?"
Unsubbed and no longer playing, but still checking the Alliance War forum for the lulz.
