Thank god I didn't spend countless hours leveling up alts for the sole purpose of having a bunch of hirelings receiving purples/golds...oh wait I did do that.... :'(

Yeah, it looks like they did this to get more people to do the stupid crafting writs. And the writs make no sense for max level toons/crafters. They are doing their best to drive the original player base from the game.

Sure seems that way. I've been trying to avoid those crafting writs because I have no interest in them whatsoever.

There was nothing unfair or exploitable in the previous system. You needed to invest a lot of gold and time up front to get those alts leveled for max hirelings. You invested that gold/time (my god think of the expense from enchanting leveling up!!!) with the expectation that you would slowly get paid back your investment over time and long-term hopefully make a profit. That was very reasonable. What isn't reasonable is pulling the reward after everyone already invested the gold/time....

I've been swimming in them in the last couple months... Hell, I had a day where I was trying to do the enchanter writ on my main and didn't feel like logging over to my alt for the runes, so I went off harvesting and got two Kutas before I managed to get the two Ta runes I needed.

I get a lot of Dreugh Wax, but I have been having a hard time collecting Temp Alloys even when I'm refining. I was hoping there would be a buff to it. My Hirelings are still good for my purple and blues so that's not really a problem for me.

That being said, I can understand why someone with more than a few alts who are dedicated to being hireling mules would be upset by this change.

I think it's the other way around. I have very few hirelings (only have 3 toons). To get top tier material I have to do the writs and hope RNG is with me? No thanks.

You know I pointed out the BS it the patch notes thread. Some people have jobs, a real life outside playing ESO all day. I'll use my husband as an example he works 12 hour shifts, with an hour commute each way. So on work days, he gets an hour, two if he is lucky, tops. He spends the first couple minutes logging all those he receives mail from, and then dives into play with whatever he can do in that limited time.

What this change does is effectively prevents him from playing aside from doing writs.

So, think outside your own little box before stating they want people to play the game.

Everyone should send feedback >>in game<< that this is a horrible change.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

It's not like hirelings are showering people with gold items as it stands now.

People (myself included) put a ton of time & effort into leveling characters specifically for hireling mail. That's a lot of time, effort & gold flushed down the toilet for what appears to be no good reason.

Which is fine for blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking. In the long run, it will probably mean the same or more gold boosters from hirelings, as you always get stuff to refine from them.

As you won't be getting any gold aspect runes or purple provisioning ingredients from refining, though, it's definitely a nerf for enchanting and provisioning (although perhaps with the overall changes to provisioning it won't matter - but it probably will).

I have my Black Smith maxed out and this is what I received after refining 1,000 voistone ore

    858 Voidstone Ingots

    3 Almandine

    2 Amythest

    2 Bloodstones

    1 Chrysolyte

    3 Citirine

    1 Diamond

    16 Dwarven Oil

    3 Emerald

    2 Garnet

    7 Grain Solvents

    14 Honing Stones

    3 Jade

    2 Quartz

    1 Ruby

    1 Sapphire

    2 Sardonyx

    1 Temp Alloy

    1 Turquoise

If they nerfed my one hireling then I may as well re-spec and just buy all my *** from other players.

Which requires you to go out and spend time gathering raw materials etc. I spent months doing that, researching traits, breaking down glyphs, etc. I really prefer to spend my time now playing end-game material (at least until they manage to totally foul up Cyrodil...and we're getting real close to that).

Which kind of suggests the idea that we might be getting more character slots soon. Since, one of the biggest issues with more characters was just being able to log in and collect 10 or 15 waves of hireling mail.

Yeah, I don't get the reasoning behind this one. I realize they want to give people incentive to do the writs, but why not just boost the return on those? Hirelings didn't give too many in the first place, at all.

I suspect this is going to be one that is changed after a bevy of negative feedback.

8 times zero is still zero, 8 x 0.0x is still a lot more then some people that only play one char. So it depends on the nerf...
When potent nirn was 6.5 k i could have bought them all, now they are 20k again. But i did not because i know i cannot trust ZoS not messing with the droprates. So i wont be stocking legendary mats now either.

I have noticed people with loads of maxed out hireling toons are still here, playing the game, while my always short of cash begger type of friends have left the game as soon a they got to V something.

So as long as Zos doesn't get rid of the hireling mails alltogether, we should be fine.

Hopping on board for this. I also spent a good deal of time and gold leveling various crafts on five characters for the hireling return. I don't get gold items every day but I thought the reward was worth the effort. I don't have a lot of time to play and it fit well with my schedule. Clearly I should've spent my limited play time grinding one of them to VR 14 instead.

The consumables writs are still worth doing once you're at max level in the craft, because the returns outweigh what you put into them. The equipment writs, OTOH, aren't worth doing anymore once you've maxed out the craft and aren't getting valuable inspiration from them. You put more in materials into them than you get out of them.

I assume the price of all gold items will increase a lot --- especially for Kuta. If nobody receives Kuta from hirelings any more the current going price of ~3,200-3,600 is going to increase dramatically. Econ 101: you keep demand constant and decrease supply substantially = substantial jump in the price (price elasticity will determine the magnitude of that increase).

So buying them will likely become somewhat prohibitively expensive. I realize it impossible to get stats on the source of all Kuta's currently for sale, but I would bet the majority that are for sale came from a hireling...take all those away and what do you have in guild stores?
