Alright, I made just a quick sneak peek on what is wrong with stealth/cloak at the moment. I plan on doing more in-depth video on all different skills later on and with enemy players using them (not NPCs), but this is how things generally work atm:

If you mean cloak, that gets broken by everything under the sun, then think again. That thing is a waste of magicka, and no competitive player would slot it in its current stance.

I hear this all the time.

I rolled a NB and didn't bother to even level up the cloak skill.

When I got to Cyrodiil at level 15 or so, I forgot how powerful vr14 gear is and I kept dying to residual fire ballista damage and other DoTs. One of my guildmates heard my frustrations and told me to slot cloak because it's not just a vanish button but removes the stuff that is killing me. I told him what you quoted above. He basically said that is way overstated, cloak works the vast majority of the time, most good players all slot and use it, and the times it doesn't work is typically by design (it's not a foolproof invisibility or invulnerability).

I then selected the cloak skill and started using it to eliminate negative effects and try to vanish from other players. Ever since, my experience with the skill has been quite positive...I am wearing 5 light armor, I don't have any stealth passives or gear, and I still reliably vanish from enemies I wish not to see/pursue me (and it also cleanses the stuff that is killing me).

I don't doubt there may have been times when NBs have had frustrating experiences with this skill. All I can say for now is that from the times that I have used it that I am glad I had a guildmate who was smart to actually not trust the "cloak sucks" narrative that is so popular on these forums.

Yes, you can use Dark Cloak for purging still, but even for that there are (arguably) better options, such as Efficient Purge/Cleanse.

Your tests are against NPCs. I don't agree with the game's philosophy, but from my experience NPCs can auto-detect stealthers.

I am unsure of the relationship between invisibility and damaging opponents. Most RPGs do not like this combination and I am curious as to what the developers have said about it.

I also will say I do not use Dark cloak for purge, but I use it for its intended function: to escape. More often than not, it succeeds. Not all the time, but most of it. A NB that cloaks 20 meters away from a human target will reliably evade detection. The only other class that can evade determines pursuit is the sorcerer because of bolt escape.

That being said, if a NB tries to cloak when she is 5 meters away from me in flat, featureless terrain, then the expectations for success are noticeably less. Much less so if I am part of a posse of 4-6 players determined to find them. But is this because cloak is a "waste of magicka," or because I can immediately investigate the potential hiding places via magelight, detection pots, or random AoEs?
The thread that prompted the 1.4.4 "fixes" to cloak included a video with OP resting against NPCs. GaryA came into the thread and said it was not working correctly. Jessica then updated several times saying they were narrowing down the cause. I'm looking for the video now.

Found it. It was in this thread The video had been removed.

Sorry for troll. Like the vids I just find the tldr pages in the first few to be a tad sturborn, your mad it doesn't work how you want and are yelling at devs instead of accepting that it does work in a lot of really effective ways for other nightlbades on this forum who play competitve pvp builds.

I play(ed?) a 'magicka' nb w/ 130~ sta regen and 1900 stamina and no stamina abilities. Rolling is OP. i can hit cloak 5-8 times in a row and get absolutely lit, spam isn't the solution although the salt does tend to make it stick..

All you need to to be invis and out of LoS for it to stick. dodge rolling before the invis breaks projectiles. Anyone chasing you is probably spamming their fire key on a CC projectile or gap closer. If you were tagged up before the retreat, you need to purge and then cloak. roll purge roll cloak. Smart players will dot you. Velocious curse is great cause you can just keep throwing it on and reapplying it if they keep cloaking, and the nb turns into a ladybug.

I used to toy w/ the paths ability when i was running an odd build. and I'd let ppl gap close me w/ block up, block cast a path and dodge roll cloak at point blank range on ppl and vanish. If you practice that (block till contact, exectite the roll cloak (eat a speed pot/slot concealed/be a vamp/us the paths) and watch the 30-50% SPEED in combo w/ your cloak create your gap to reposition or exit combat. abuse timing when you aren't 1vx and your opponent isn't AEing you. if a person attacks and you just block and wait then roll THROUGH THEM and invis.

But...but...I have this super strong build that I have in mind that is a sorcerer who uses 4 Heavy Armor, 2 Medium armor, and 1 Light armor with restoration staff and dual-wield. I should be able to tank, dodge, assassinate, cast spells, and heal for days...but I can't!

Please fix this ZoS, you promised that I could play how I want and I want to play a clusterf***.

LOL what? How come block casting gives such deep combat depth? You just hold block and spam 1-1-1.

I don't think taking it away adds anything, so what's your point? A shield will block the same whether you're wearing any kind of armor TBH. Problem isn't that 1h/s is adding too much mitigation, it's that heavy armor doesn't add enough. I leveled to VR10 with heavy armor because that's how I wanted to play, but had to discard it after realizing the survivability was the same in light armor. Everyone's hate is really misplaced here.

Also people use more than one spell. Not one player in this game uses only one spell, and if a player does it's a healer like me in pvp where 75% or more of my casts are breath of life.

Geez dude, step back and think for a sec, block casting is really a gamebreaking mechanic, as it is now you might as well have permablock on... like a toggle.. so i dont hurt my finger while holding down mousebutton (depth to combat? please.. )

How about adding a blockbreak... like the bash, now that would add actual skill to combat and penalizing those permablockers!

I have thought about it. Block casting will be a thing unless they rework how pve content works, or make shield mitigation passive and not activated. People think it's only a pvp issue. What if your trial tank needs to cast taunt, and the boss hits him with a crit attack and one shots him while his shield is down to cast the taunt? Should the tank let the boss kill someone else to avoid being hit by the attack while taunting?

Even so, in pvp it's going to be impossible to permablock in 1.6. You all will just have to wait and see the patch notes or hope it gets mentioned in this thread... The direction they're going in is the right direction imo.

Well then you havn't give it a thought.
That would force the tanks to actual time their taunts more or less instead of spamming it once every few second? you figure it out, i bet the good tanks would have no issue with it.
Also the removal of caps would make a tank in HA to be able to actuallly take more dmg without getting insta-killed
Think again but a bit harder... You're probably smart, think of a smart way instead of a lazy way :)

Yes, let's all play in only one certain way (and make sure it is not a rogue style of playing). Sure way to get more build diversity (and fun) in Cyrodiil.

Have you considered there are people who don't like playing with that "effective style of play"?

Besides, my playstyle was perfectly effective while cloak worked, and I imagine there'd be plenty of DKs angry also if suddenly their flapflap didn't reflect anything, and Templars probably wouldn't like it either if their Blazing Shield broke instantly without dealing any damage.

But hey, thanks for the "constructive" feedback.
I'll just slot a heal or dmg shield now like the cool kids and become a "healer tank dps" holding block 24/7. Or not.

Sigh... the comment quality here is potato.

Then your tank needs to play more carefully instead of being a block bot and taunts every 10 seconds and do nothing other than that.

While active blocking is uniqe part of the game, block casting ruins eveything. Especially in PvP. Make it so, while blocking, your dmg reduces 50%-75% in pvp only. Simplest *** solution.

    ...your bs...

Rogue characters use finesse and agility. Magicka NBs can do just that and be considered "rogue-like" or even an assassin since you have a class line full of skills that are used to assassinate, and they use magicka.

DPS, focused on CCs, stealth & burst damage.

Not DPS, focused on healing, tanking & burst damage.

    Read up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thief_(character_class)

    Or play any other RPG.

I appreciate that you like playing a magicka NB, but please keep in mind that there are people who dont.
Having a working playstyle for them doesn't take anything away from you.

I am unsure of the relationship between invisibility and damaging opponents. Most RPGs do not like this combination and I am curious as to what the developers have said about it.

    RPGs such as... ?

I've been playing RPGs & MMOs for 13 years now, and never have I felt so punished for trying to play a rogue character as in ESO.

have you tried watching Sypher's videos on how to dodge roll and use cloak? It may help you.

And have you watched my videos? I might know a thing or two about that already.

And is Sypher playing a rogue character? No, he's playing a magicka NB.

Find me a good stamina NB video & we'll talk (no S&B dmg shield/heal bs please).

I find your exclusion of my 2hand NB because of its SnB offbar disturbing.

And I had so many videos for you :(

Please by all means link them (or pm, there are enough video links as is imo).
I enjoy watching other peoples' videos, even if they aren't playing a rogue type character, and the more diversity of builds there are out in Cyrodiil, the happier I am. I'm not sure I can say the same about everyone commenting here.

What the...? Dude you've been arguing what is considered a "rogue" for the past few pages in this thread.

    No, I haven't been arguing.

I have been giving facts, backed up by factual evidence in form of recorded videos & descriptions of the archetype.

Considering how fast you're commenting, I doubt you've even bothered to read them.

Some people just cant accept being wrong...

Since you must be new to gaming, here's a couple of examples.

Since you must be a condescending prick, I will flat out tell you that my "rogue-like" build does not use a shield or damage shields. In fact, the criteria you listed:

It is about playing in a certain way, as a DPS focused on CC, stealth & burst damage.
is exactly how I play my Nightblade. Ask the people that send me rage tells after I kill them in less than 3 seconds (no bow attacks). Somebody posted a video of a dude raging because I killed him in three moves (unfortunately the dude took it off his Twitch page & ZOS deleted the thread).

Again, I'm sorry you haven't figured it out, but it IS possible. I'm pretty sure your situation is best described as PEBKAC.
Unsubbed and no longer playing, but still checking the Alliance War forum for the lulz.

Oh, I can kill people in 3 seconds no problem.

Another big balance issue I would like to see fixed, but before this is possible the rogue playstyle should be made playable.

Being able to kill only targets with 2-3k health (or very bad players), and then having your cloak break 10 times in a row resulting in your death isn't very fun (I'm currently making a video with more cloak breaking cases, with real PvP situations this time).

If rogue type characters were as viable as you think, there'd be more PvP videos with them, and there'd be more players using that kind of spec.

Here's a poll I made a while ago. I'd like you to take a look at it: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/144002/do-you-have-a-heal-or-a-dmg-shield-slotted-on-your-hotbar/p1

And my apologies if I sounded condescending, and a prick on top of that :open_mouth:

Perhaps ignorance had something to do with it.

I like how we still have people saying that a magicka nb isn't a true rogue class even though it has virtually the same gameplay as a stamina one. Like really the only difference is the ranged weapon setup

I haven't used my Nightblade in PvP for 2 or 3 weeks now, but I decided to jump on him real quick to get some footage of my "roguelike" style.
