So lets think about this.
1. You hit VR1 and can go to Cyrodill to level up to VR14 which is fine so long as you don't want to survive any fight with VR14 at all ever and be frustrated while you level. That will be frustrating
2. Go to craglorn. Ok except Craglorn is a VR10+ zone and most groups don't want to carry you. So you can grind but that isn't fun for everyone.
3. Gold and Silver which is currently the best way to level VR ranks. So congrats you just saved the world and brought some form of piece and everyone knows you you super amazing hero you. Now go do it 2 more times while no one knows you.
With the removal of vet ranks and going to 50
1. Be level 50 go to Cyrodill and be competitive.= It works
2. Get to 50 and Go to Craglorn= you don't have to be carried since you are not 13 levels away from everyone else
3. You can go to other territories if you want but you don't actually have to.= Gives the choice without feeling forced.
Constantly adding levels just puts new players farther away from existing players making a huge disconnect. Putting a cap allows newer players to play with existing players and makes everyone happy.
Imagine if you just started playing WoW and they didn't offer the level to 90 option. You start and there is no one in the starting zones. You are lonely and no one to group with. And now you have 10 years of content to complete by yourself. And you can't complete all of it because all the level 90+ is in the last zone spamming LFG while you are in a huge world....alone.
Make sense or did I ramble too much?
Let me provide a concise summary of this post. You don't like playing the game how it is currently designed. You also would prefer a complete overhaul of the game instead of offering a shortcut system like the one you mentioned or the one ZOS currently uses on the PTS which could be implemented on the live server with far less effort and no game overhaul?
Why in the world would any sensible person support your position?
No I would like a system that allows you to choose how you want to play it. Meaning you can do any and all content not be forced into one or have to pay to skip it if you don't like it. Taking out vet ranks is not going to make you skip any system its going to give you the option to do them instead of forcing you into it.
Lets put it this way
Player 1 hits VR1 and endgame to you is PVP so you want to PVP. Well great but you will get facerolled over by a VR14 everytime and continually losing is not fun.
Player 2 feels trials and raids are endgame they enjoy. They hit VR1 and want to do trials, Tough crap your aren't VR14 you will do nothing but die and hold your group back.
Player 3 wants to quest only. Great they can do silver and gold and get levels and progress through good for him.
2/3 players not happy.
With Champion System after level 50 scale
Player 1 wants to PVP hits 50 great he can PVP and earn Champion points. His character progresses while not getting murdered by everyone on the field every 10 seconds. Winning is fun
Player 2 Wants to do trials. Great now he can because everyone is level 50 and he holds no one back based on his level. He also earns Champion points and can still progress his character. He now has fun
Player 3 wants to quest. He does silver and gold while getting Champion points and can still progress his character. He is still happy
3/3 players happy.

Erm, that's a bit unfair, the game has a huge amount of content by any measure, and more importantly it's consistently pretty good quality in terms of writing.
I don't see any problem in the vet idea as it was, it's just that they were thinking too much of the PvE casual player when they implemented it the way they did - understandably, because that's always the biggest part of the playerbase. But it sounds like they're going to be adjusting things in the right direction now.
May I ask if you have any (vet level) alts? Also how long have you been playing?MaximusDargus wrote: »Why do people want to remove vet ranks?
Because they dont know what MMO is
Because they want everything NAO - max lvl in one day
Because they hate the idea someone can have it better if he invests his time into game and instead of also lvling up, they just simply want it taken away from people who earned it
Because they are stubborn and they wont accept that grinding is part of MMO (despite fact that you can reach max lvl without any grinding)
Because they have silly arguments like PVP (battle leveling will work up to max VR now) or ALTs (they are like, want to make ton alts and suddenly, suprise that they have to lvl them up)
So pretty much selfishness and sense of entitlement

I don't aim to offend you in the least with that, if you started playing later than me or have less time overall to play it doesn't diminish your opinion, but it does actually mean you're very likely to run into the same issues people like me are having now later on(unless vet ranks are actually removed/overhauled in near future).
When I was leveling my first character it amazed me greatly why people would want to skip all that cool content.
Then I got bored and decided I want to try out another class...
My two cents, aka, the following is opinion, and no facts (other than my experience) are to be drawn from it.
Before the game was released on the XBox One, I was salivating. The entire world of Tamriel would be open, so the days of breaking out of Falkreath's walls to see an unrendered Cyrodiil in Skyrim were no longer a dream.
Having been playing since launch, the game's design became quickly noticeable. I once stole a sneak peek into the Rift while level 12 and was immediately greeted with level 40+ enemies. Ah, the level locked area. So much for "open" Tamriel.
Once I finished AD, Caldwell told me everything I had just done was pointless, now go do Ebonheart Pact. Oh, and no one will remember what you did (which is odd considering I get voice overs telling me about things I did in AD while in the Rift).
This put me into the Veteran ranking system, and aside from the very few 45+ players, it seems the server I connect to is no longer the one everyone else would connect to.
Given this little knowledge, I immediately saw how the game's leveling system was going to cause problems.
Vertical scaling is a mechanic I wish were completely removed from all games, because they cause problems, and ESO clearly shows them. There are players who'll want to farm every exp they can muster in order to be OP while there are others (like me) who play the game and leveling just comes with the territory.
Now, at VR5, I'm in a zone I can't quite wrap my head around.
I enjoyed playing this game solo, but now I feel alone. While playing AD, when a dolem was started, players would come out of no where and close it down. Now, in the Rift, if a dolem starts, there's nothing around but saber cats and mammoths. Every so often, I'll see a VR2 trying to engage, but I know too well that without many other VR4 or 5s around, that VR2 is about as useful as a saber cat.
This level separation is impossible to ignore, and judging by the comments, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed it.
Whether or not the VR rank is removed or not isn't the issue.
The true issue is how the game was designed, and no amount of leveling is going to fix it. If the game isn't tied together completely, which each of the areas being separated, there's no real solution that's going to work, especially for those starting the game out.
The "end game", as many people call it, is the true culprit. The game was split, so it would seem it would be tremendously difficult to tie everything together to the leveled player.
I do know one thing, though: if the leveling system is to be fixed, it needs to be fixed everywhere. Going to Vulkhel Guard and getting steamed because I can't buy a stamina glyph for my armor level is frustrating.
This is how I know the leveling system is broken. It was never designed to cater to people at levels higher than 50. Given the majority, myself included, who'd be asked to throw away their character just to play another area in Tamriel would be furious.
Not sure how ZoS is going to fix this, but one thing is clear: no matter what they choose, people will always be unhappy about it.
Another reason to get rid of vertical scaling, frankly. Far too many threads on this forum are all about reaching "X" yesterday, getting all the "X" gear yesterday, and getting to level "X" yesterday.
I can't even fathom why in the world a person would want to blaze through a game so fast just to reach a number, then turn and complain when a DLC is "only" 25 hours long.
I'm truly enjoying this game. Probably because I couldn't give a single damn about my level.

Yes, yes exactly! That is what Veteran Ranks were supposed to be. They were a goal to work towards, and a reward for getting there. And that was all fine and dandy until they started adding new ones and gearing content towards those new ones, effectively locking that new content behind them. When they started locking content behind them is when they became untenable in the long run. If Craglorn and Trials had been integrated into the existing VR1-10, then there would have been options for what to do as you go up through the ranks -- but they weren't. They were added as VR11+, meaning you had to reach VR11 before you were viable for that content. I didn't say Cadwell's was the only way to VR11, I said it was the most efficient way. Yes Craglorn is available to anyone at VR1+ (although I truly thought Trials were locked to at least VR10). No, I don't think all content should be available to any level, I think all content that is endgame content (Cadwell's (solo PvE), Craglorn (group PvE), Trials (raid PvE), and Cyrodiil (PvP)) should be available to everyone who has reached the "start of endgame" (which is officially Level 50). I also think that "levelling through endgame" (which is what VRs are) is a contradiction to what endgame is supposed to be about.MaximusDargus wrote: »Nope, Cadwell is not only way to reach VR11, you can grind too. Also, craglorn and trials are avaliable for anyone from VR1+. Sure they might have a difficulty that requires someone to be around VR12 but still they are avaliable since VR1. And seriosly, are you expecting that, always and always every content in game will be avaliable to player of any lvl? Its normal that at some point an high lvl player content or low lvl player content will go into game. And there is nothing wrong with it.
Because if something is universal and good for everything, it usually sucks. Same goes with forced content that is "any player lvl friendly".

I dont have alts. Caldwell gold and silver provides me all other faction areas and im happy with that. It took me 20 days from lvl 1 to VR1 (i was holding back a lot because i tried to wait for friend) and then another 14 days to hit VR14. 0 grinding, during that i completed every single quest in game, cleared every dungeon (solo/public/group) and every dolmen and every skyshard so it wasnt rush to the end game.
I played multiple mmos before and i knew what i want to be in here. Thus no need to check out other classes (also there is a lot of reference material what to expect from other classes).
If i would like to test other class then i would do it with honor and with full acknowledgement that i WILL HAVE to repeat content in order to lvl it up. Because its natural.
The issue of someone starting a class and then dont liking it later in game (where he is like lvl30 and suddenly realises its not for him) i suggest a sandbox mode where new player can test out things before choosing final class

I like my main. There're just very few things I can do on my main that aren't mind numbingly boring after doing them for 346536429734 times. Why do you appear so violently opposed to anyone whose opinion differs from yours? Did you consider that perhaps they just have a different experience or/and attitude than you do? That doesn't ultimately make them wrong.
Edit: On "other ways to reach higher vet", you realise ZOS had being PURPOSEDFULLY nerfing EVERY grind spot they found, right? If we had a nice stable grinding spot then yes, leveling would still be boring, but we could indeed look at it like "oh well, just gotta grind some more to get to endgame, if that's what it takes". However, ZOS obviously doesn't want us to grind AT ALL and wants us to quest for 5th time instead and that is the ultimate issue. We are indeed being forced to quest and quest and quest again and again, all the same quests over and over again...sure people still find grinding spots but with the clear attitude ZOS has shown towards it so far, how long til those get nerfed as well?

Im opposed to the fact that when people find something they dont like, they think the only way to change it is remove thing they dont like.
They dont like VR? They yell remove VR, they dont like CP? They yell remove CP.
They wont suggest something like "alternative area with mobs from VR1 to VR5 outside of silver. They will simply rabble to remove VR and ruing everyone work who achieved it (and proved its not that terrible).
Same goes with CP. They yell remove CP, most common reason is that they claim "they cant be competitive in PVP". They wont petition for "CP free campaign". Most people will just rabble to "remove CP" and once again try to ruin what other worked for.
The majority of opinions ive seen on forums is soaked in "if i dont have it i dont want anyone else have it". People dont try to find alternatives and seek the root of problem. They will make a generic demands that result in total overkill.
(like recently announced change to stamina regeneration while blocking, people were making general and false statements: Tanks OP in PVP and ZOS listened resulting with a ubernerf directed at tanks. People didnt bother to find root of problem. They rather picked to demand nerfing everything.
Thats why i present myself with strong opposition towards any suggestion that demands to remove something/delete something just because people want it faster/dont want to do it/find it annoying (yet still they want it) and in result such demands will lead to wasting other peoples work. Im against generic and simple demands where the result of such demand will hurt whole community and not necessarily will solve problem
for example instead will lead to another complaints of same type. Example? Remove VR because why not, i dont want to grind. ZOS: OK. Later remove all levels because OMG lvl50 so long. ZOS:OK next? Remove all skill leveling, its so unfair, the rank 4 of skill after morphing is 400k exp...... and so on

Actually if you read those forums *carefully* you'll see a lot of people complain about exact opposite. "With so many CP we can demolish every single boss in the game before they even start their mechanics, we don't like it". There will always be some people who enjoy being so OP they can ignore all the mechanics and just mash their perfect dps rotation, there will also always be people who complain because they see others being stronger than them, but I think it's safe enough to say most of us want *balance*. My issue with CP is it makes the game too easy and unbalanced. The game is already easy but CP put it on whole new level as you gain more of them. I'm not sure removing them is the ultimate way to go but at the very least the system needs some very good tweaking. And there have been PLENTY of very constructive suggestion regarding that on the forums, too bad ZOS is just gonna ignore all of them like usual.
Also, yes we don't want to quest for 5th time. A grinding spot would also partially solve the problem but seeing ZOS has been putting extra effort in nerfing all the grinding, asking for removal of vet ranks seems more likely to succeed.

In other words, you haven't been here long enough to get bored yet;)
- "With so many CP we can demolish every single boss in the game before they even start their mechanics, we don't like it" - this argument is flawed. Its not like someone caught player one day, feed him 100-200-500CP at once and hurt him making him OP. A player who earned so much CP that can now demolish any boss before they start their mechanics WORKED for it in one or another day. He did it to himself. If he is so sad about what he did to himself, then he should ask for harder content directed to end game players.
- "Also, yes we don't want to quest for 5th time. A grinding spot would also partially solve the problem but seeing ZOS has been putting extra effort in nerfing all the grinding, asking for removal of vet ranks seems more likely to succeed." - there are grinding spots in game and ZOS cant nerf them all, just because player havent found one it doesnt mean there is none left. Or maybe player complains that "his grinding spot is not as good as he would like it to be"? That would be once again "i want something but i want it fast". The last part im sorry for "removal of vet ranks seems more likely to succeed" is exactly what im against for. Just because some people want something but they dont want to work for it, they want it to be removed.
Who tells you to make alts? You. Who tells you to lvlel them up to max lvl in a one day? You. Is someone forcing you to make alts, you log in one day and game tells you "cant play untill you make a max lvl alt"? No, its your own decision to start an alt. Bear with all consequences of it.
Based on what they said at Quakecon, this isn't very likely.I think they up v14 to v16 because in the long run they will rename vet into level
v1 is 50 simple
v16 is 65
they couldnt do this if v14 was max because what kind of max lvl is 63 for a mmo

I really do not understand the mentality of "gamers" sometimes. Why do so many people complain that there is so much of a "gap" between new players and old. The whole "jump to level 90 option in WoW is what ruined it. If i decide to play a new game I cannot then complain that the people that have dedicated more time/ hours and effort than I have are better and stronger than I am. SO THEY SHOULD BE! If people just want everyone to be equals then why play MMORPGs at all? Your time, effort and loyalty to a game should be rewarded with power over those that just choose to play it then quit after a month.
"you have 10 years of content to complete by yourself".. No you dont. You have the exact same amount of leveling to put it than those that are already 90/100 or whatever. You dont get to 60 then say to yourself "oh no, before i can even move onto the next expansion i must complete all level 60 raids and dungeons".. You can level right through to the new level cap in the new zones as the "end game bar" has been raised. This applies to all games. As soon as YOU hit that high ranking spot you would not want just anyone to compete at your level after just a few weeks playing just because "hey, thats fair"..
Anyone wanting to make a new character or is only just starting the game should not have any kind of sympathy towards them just because they are starting from the beginning. They can put in the same time and effort that everyone else had to. Games exist that cater to the lazy and unwilling and those games are called first person shooters.
P.s. new players CAN play with "existing players" because there are 1. Their are other new players to play with them or 2. Someone is leveling an alternate character. When you join the military you are a private, you cant put a complaint in and ask for a promotion to seargent because you feel we should all be equal. Time and effort is rewarded to those willing to put it in.

This this and one more time this.
Also to all those complaining that "they cant play with friend because he is max lvl and i just started".
Wow, sorry to say, but if your friend wont help you just because you are lower lvl and he will have to go out of their way to do something with you.... he is not your friend or he doesnt value you as much as you think he is.
