Honestly you lot should hear yourselves. It's embarrassing how entitled and needy you sound. And as for that guy who 'knows people who are ready to grief new players' just because their character will have a pet they won't; you know some really crappy people. Beyond that I have no words for the nastiness of that sentiment.

The best thing for any MMO player is to see new players joining the game. You should be encouraging ZOS for promoting the game; we all benefit from it.

Nah, I was talking about the race to play, as in just that. No, crab/dog, no mount, etc.. Like the horse.

I was half serious actually. I've been thinking about upgrading to an imperial addition. But is it worth £20? I'm not interested in the other stuff. Now they mention the Dog, that would certainly tip the balance, but as far as I know that's not an option for me anyway.

@Tannakaobi ah I am with you now! Sorry I missed the meaning you meant before. Selling the Imperial stand alone could be interesting, although I think that it's pretty much the only thing making people pay the £20 update right now. I don't think a crab, rings and horse are really worth £10 alone.

Although I guess they sell the other horse at £10 so... no idea. :P

If profit comes first, there should be no problem in putting up the pet for a monetary price. The people who buy it on Steam just would get it as a free bonus. Win/win, Zeni just makes more money.

An honest question to all who are all worked up about this.

Why do you want a *** so bad? I only ask because as I stated before, I wouldn't mind one, but I guess I'm indifferent if I don't have it. I feel that way, because it does nothing for me... I can't send it to down to deposit mats in the bank, or deliver pots bak to me, etc. So there is no fuction to it.

As I said not bashing, just trying to better understand.

P.S. And I understand some are just dog lovers IRL, I am too. I love my RL dog, but I personal don't get the conection to a digital pet.
I have a mudcrab, little guar and a monkey. I don't want or need them they just take up space. My 2 sorcs never fly their pets anywhere but in a combat situation, they do not go to the bank. I would like a wolfhound, I had one once. It's a decent pet and several of my chars would enjoy it.

It would actually be hard to do it worse. The first decent pet for the game can only be acquired by a Steam sale that's on for the weekend. Those of us in the game who care now get to watch a stack of newbies with awesome pets parade around our towns. This will not go well, especially in dungeons. Ever seen me pull an entire dungeon? It's pretty funny ... well to me.

haha. I know people who are planning on training mobs onto people who have the dog. Good luck new people. Nothing like having a v12 train you with groups while they are harvesting stuff just because you got a pet that Zeni did not offer to people who have stuck with the game since launch. Yes, this would be considered harassment and probably get them banned. Most of them simply would move on to something else and would not really care. They enjoy the game and see potential, but get a little tire of Zeni doing things like this, or leaving things broken for too long, or annoying impulse zergballs, etc.

Yeah. For me the next step, after the next letter telling me no, is to wander over to the Steam forums, I have 70+ games there, and explain how interesting the IE with the dog will be for those who chose to buy it. Many people ask questions on the Steam forums before buying a game. I'll just camp the place a while.

I'm not saying this to toot my horn or anything but it's like moving to a Spanish speaking country and not knowing Spanish! Business and Corp practices and methods are all around us yet it seems like no one gets it.

This is incentive for new buyers and its value is that it is "exclusive" (Worded as - "limited-time bonus available only to those who buy the Imperial Edition of The Elder Scrolls Online through Steam") which translates to "we're going to upset all the early adopters just for you and this is what will make you special from them because you missed the cool boat they came in on". Makes perfect sense from a marketing perspective.

Marketing is all about increasing sales, not necessarily profitability although that is the desired result, and not necessarily good customer service.

Business exist from profitability. That is the blood that pumps in their veins. upsetting some customers over a pet is small time compared to potential income they want (or need). Them caring about including us, bah, we're already locked in, seriously, who's going to quit over a pet? And they gain by being able to offer exclusivity(!) to a next gen buyer. Yay!

Businesses need $ to survive. Not social or moral pleasantries, those are usually a secondary goal (if at all). And if dismissing "loyal" customers yields minimal to no repercussions and brings in additional revenue you better believe profit will come first. Remember that.

Well you business genius: If they said I can make my account into a steam account for $20 and I get the vanity pet and the steam achievements for other items I would pay the $20... They had the opportunity to make more money off us beta suckers.

I understand this from a business perspective, but there are other special bonuses they could've given out. Temporary EXP buffs (perhaps, say, up until level 20?), free game time, a few treasure maps (just some of the regular ones that you find in loot once in a while), that sort of thing. Things that are already available to current players, so that it doesn't feel like a huge slap to the face.

It's perfectly understandable that you're very upset about the wolfhound. At this time I'm going to escalate the problem, and have a higher tier of agency to completely and thoroughly look into this issue and find a resolution. "Fare thee well adventurer, we look forward to seeing you in Tamriel soon!"

We will see. I'll leave the Steam forums alone for now.

I would imagine they're taking a step out to watch what comes of the thread and then discuss where to go from there. It's been a pretty big explosion and a big hit on their image as a company to anyone who got an Imperial Edition at release.

I hope that in a day or two when they have had time we'll see an official statement, if not they'll probably lose some subs and have more bad stories in the media about how they don't care about their players.

You might be right that we won't quit over a vanity pet. For some this might be the tipping point though. For others we simply won't forget and this will just be another slight added to our list. You mistakenly think we don't understand why they are doing it. We do understand. What you should understand is that it will cost them absolutely nothing to give this to existing customers as well. That's the beauty of intangible goods.

So why not add all the promotional items to the store as stand alone purchases as well? People who take advantage of a promotion get it free, everyone else has access to the content at a cost. ZOS makes more money, we get our dog. It's a win win situation.

My two cents: We got a mudcrab, and a monkey (some may even have the Scuttler). Is a dog a cooler pet? maybe. But we have two(three) pets they won't have, while they have one we don't. I'm sure dogs will be put into the game, and even if it's not the exact breed, who cares? We'll still have dogs. Honestly, I'm sure people will gravitate away from that dog once a "cooler" dog comes around (say a wolf, or a shepherd) and it will be no big deal. We don't need it just because we received the imperial edition.

The imperial edition still comes with the mudcrab, there are still explorer keys floating around out there for the guar. The only one they cannot access for $5 or so is the monkey that some of us got for being in beta.

People have asked for a dog since before launch, as far as pets go. Doing this and not releasing some sort of equivalent available to already paying customers (even as a $5 store purchase) made a lot of people angry.

Nope, not for me. The dog imaged on the first page as the Vanity pet looks strikingly similar to my dog that recently passed away, Sugar. :(
I would love to find a way to get that pet so Sugar could still run around with me, playing and happy.

My favorite part about this thread is all the people pretending that this is entitlement, like it would be hard to provide the same stuff to the people currently paying Zenimax's bills as it was to provide them as a bonus to new players.

That's not entitlement. It's bad business. It amuses me that someone came in here and described it as GOOD business. When is it good business to drive away current customers with a deal to bring in new ones? That's the most absurd thing I've read all day.

I hope there comes a chance for that...

For one, I and everyone else paid full price for the game and have continued to pad ZOS's coffers even though there were plenty of reasons to cancel our subs (IMO there were far more reasons to cancel my sub for this game than why I canceled SWTOR or any other MMO), and these issues have been documented ad nausium on these forums and elsewhere.

However, anyone who buys from Steam gets this for more than 50% off what it cost me originally, not to mention the subscription.

You are not actually getting this. It's the first decent pet in the game. It is restricted to those who buy the Steam IE over this coming weekend. Anyone who has a pet, and if they were real the road would be covered in crab, scuttler and monkey, road kill paste, has to watch newbies with the best pets in the game parade around the place. This is wildly stupid.
