Have a read through this if you want. It explains current market patterns.
Now look at this paragraph in particular:
"The pay-to-play MMO market has been shrinking since 2010, dropping from 30.6 million monthly active subscribers worldwide to 23.4 million this year. To offset the loss of revenue, several key titles have incorporated or switched entirely to a microtransaction-based revenue model. In the past five years, the percentage of revenue for subscription-based MMO generated via additional in-game microtransactions has roughly doubled from 14% for 27%. In addition, the average digital spend, in addition to the monthly fee, has tripled from $16 to $46, worldwide. Despite the overall decline, this category has so far managed to maximize their ability to monetize a shrinking yet loyal player base."
Note the part in bold, and mull through for a bit while players who see this type of thing are concerned about the content and game going forward. Paying more on average to experience less is not a very good thing for gaming as a whole, unless you are a business or marketing major.
That's one argument; another being it's just plain wrong to give more access to new players (as they can obtain beta/preorder content) than subscribers who have been invested with you from the start.

I'm almost certain the agreement between ZOS and Steam required an exclusivity in the agreement to provide the game on Steam for sale

1. Use paypal. It's only like a dollar thirty five.
2. I had the imperial edition. I sent a support ticket to ZoS and they applied the code.
3. Now where's my dollar thirty five dog that you said I could have?

I guess you don't know what paypal is. I gave you the explorer pack code. If you don't know how to make a secure purchase using paypal, that's your problem. Now where's my dog?

I bought the code at that site and the ZoS support team applied it for me. If there is an issue between that site and ZoS, they can take care of it themselves. You said to give you an explorer pack, and there it is.

It is absolutely commonplace for businesses to offer perks to buy products at a later-then-brandspankingnew date. Got a cellphone? Get a plan, wait a month, look at the provider website, my money's on them have added/changed to to make it a better deal - and it doesn't apply retroactively to you.
It really is false entitlement to think that just because somebody else may be offered a different/possibly more enticing deal then you were offered that you should be compensated.

That makes no sense about the cellphone thing.
Right now, you're paying for a cellphone plan, and have been paying monthly for a few months. The provider then offers a better deal.
You do not get the better deal.
New people get the better deal. And you're stuck with the old deal.

This will probably all lead to no real change in the end, but I've definitely made my point known. I will intently follow how ZOS reacts, and will make a hard decision if necessary.
All I do ask, however, is for ZOS to be aware of how bitter a taste it leaves in my mouth, personally, for new users to still be able to acquire beta and explorer's pack contents on top of this new limited content.
Even that last paragraph itself paints me a little hypocritical; I prefer content to not be time limited, and freely available to all. I've never been one to deny someone something that gives me pleasure, as I would never want the same in return.
As an aside, all it takes is just one look to some online resellers and websites to realize just how much some 'digital pixels' are to a fanbase. To predatorily capitalize on that basic want, in my opinion, is just as greedy a move as the resellers themselves.
... and I have made my point known as well i.e. that ZOS should not have given in here, but I guess we are going to be stuck reliving this nightmare for eons to come whenever anyone feels that they should have something just because someone else got one.
Some of us dont take any crap served to us silently , some actually voice it out when they get this.
and one other thing.... anytime in the future, if you ever disagree with someone because they are not happy about some aspect of the game, you are a hypocrite based on your above statement. I suspect something you probably have already done many times. You see, what you see as "crap", other's may not see it that way, and vice versa.
Nope , not really.
See , i dont go into threads to tell people how the subject is irrelevant unless it is not even in the game yet or for some reason we cant form a opinion on it.
I may go to agree/disagree , may add something...
But this whole thing about going there to tell people how irrilevant to complain because they think X is not right , not my thing.
So yes , maybe my view on many things may vary , hell , i disagree with people all the time. That does not mean i tell them they should shut up about it cause it is irrelevant.
Ok, so I won't find a single thread anywhere on these forums telling people their view is not correct and they should not say it? Because I am going to look and call you out on it...

I looked on my account today, and saw my sub was canceled... I did a double take and was like.. Why did I do that? and for the life of me I couldn't remember... Then while surfing the forums I found these threads and I was like... OH damn... That's why.
I wont support a company that creates content with the intentional goal of screwing over their long time supporters, while rewarding their new subscribers.
Update 3 looks nice so.. I might come back anyway. But my cancellation is on principle. You can't screw your consumers and expect to get away with it.

Paying for it would not make it difficult to get. That said, I hope it doesn't end up in a cash shop.I'm almost certain the agreement between ZOS and Steam required an exclusivity in the agreement to provide the game on Steam for sale
To the best of my knowledge that is not a requirement for selling on Steam. I also don't think, though I could be wrong, that Steam would take issue if ZOS decided to extend the Whiterun Wolfhound to existing subscribers.
