Yes, yes, and yes.Do Steam people get our monkey? Do Steam people get the other gifts we got? No they don't, so why should we get their gift?
So, we're wrong for wanting access to something that we don't have access to? We're wrong for voicing our opinions and concerns in order to get something changed? What exactly gives you the ability to define what's "wrong" anyways? Unless you're one of the Divines themselves, I don't want to hear about what is "wrong" and what isn't, I want to hear a sound argument that explains to everyone exactly why they are not allowed to exercise their right to post on these forums and push for change.ZO did absolutely nothing wrong here, its the entitlement by several gamers which is wrong.

Yes. And I can expect better of people.
I don't have to accept that this forum is going to be worse than the WoW forums. The community only gets better if people take a stand against unnecessary tantrum-throwing.

But why should they give you a promotional gift for something you didn't even buy?

And now they get a wolf and its still not enough. It reminds me a bit about little kids who you buy a football and then they want a tennis racket.

If I had not bothered to pre-order the game back then, I could buy it on steam now, get the monkey for having participated in beta, upgrade to imperial for the dog and mudcrab, and find an explorer pack code for the scuttler, thereby receiving access to all of the gifts.
But, since I made the mistake of actually supporting them, I am not allowed to even pay for access to this reward. I can't help but interpret that as a slap in the face.

Steam page lists mudcrab for imp. If it's not available, then that's an even greater sin on their part. I earned the monkey from participating in beta, and have multiple codes still sitting in my inbox. The only thing I can't get "legit" is the explorer's pack items. Since I did pre-order the game, I did obtain a legit code for it. Theoretically, silly as it may be, I could very well have purchased the game, and then never bothered to redeem the code. Regardless, it's available. I can obtain it on a steam account. Can't obtain the dog on this account.
I am actually wondering if it's possible to apply that explorers code to an account started on steam? If not, I'm a little less ticked off.

I wouldn't be. I'm a man who hates pre-order exclusives to begin with, but even I see that they're offering an incentive for supporting a title before release, which is also before negative reviews surface, and before the inevitable day-one patches. It's a reward for actually having done something to support development.
And in the same vein as that, those accounts created on steam are new, they have the possibility of getting something they never even should have had access to if they can just go out on the internet and buy a code. That's all I was trying to say.

The price reduction kind of hits below the belt too. Shame. I would even actually upgrade for this. You can keep the crab and the rings for the dog.
Zenimax is contractually obligated now to only offer the Whiterun Wolfhound to Steam customers. In order to promote the game through steam and offer this pet exclusively, they would have been forced to sign a contract and thus, cannot go against it without legal retribution from Steam.
That said, they could offer the Whiterun Wolfhound to veteran players who would be willing to buy an "upgrade" to their account through Steam which gives veteran players access to the Steam community and the dog. Given that many players repurchased the game (I did not but I know many have) without knowing they would not be allowed to add the dog or Steam access to their current account, it makes sense marketing wise to take advantage of this. Only problem is that Zenimax would sound greedy if they did this... but then again, they do offer a vanity horse and Guar plush (with vanity pet) through the game store so I think it's a little too late to avoid this.

While the grey wolfhound will remain an exclusive through Steam, we will be offering a brown version of the Wolfhound pet (tentatively called the Riften Woflhound) at some point in the future. Stay tuned for more details on how you'll be able to get your hands on one.
It's sad to see this route taken over that of giving every player even access to the same items and content via the online store. I was really hoping ESO would be a game I could collect every pet and item in for the first time, a game where there were no exclusives or deals which screw older players.
Today that dream died and with it a lot of my love for the developers of this game.

Or put a different dog in the ESO store for like 5-$10.
I am sorry, but this is just offensive, I pre-ordered the physical imperial edition and played since launch and this is the thank you ?
