    Yes, yes, and yes.

Beta keys are still floating around. Explorer's Pack keys are less than $2. Imperial Edition still comes with the mudcrab, even on Steam, so really, they're getting two pets there.

So, we're wrong for wanting access to something that we don't have access to? We're wrong for voicing our opinions and concerns in order to get something changed? What exactly gives you the ability to define what's "wrong" anyways? Unless you're one of the Divines themselves, I don't want to hear about what is "wrong" and what isn't, I want to hear a sound argument that explains to everyone exactly why they are not allowed to exercise their right to post on these forums and push for change.

I know I'm not adding anything new to the conversation, yet I still feel I must voice my thoughts.

I Beta tested, and have been paying a monthly fee from launch. I have supported this game from the start, and I feel it is insane for them to offer people showing up late to the party EVERYTHING I got for the Imperial pre-order, plus a freaking dog for less cost.

YES - putting the game on sale on steam is a awesome idea, and
YES - adding more digital content such as this dog is a good idea to boost subscriptions....

However not providing your most loyal customers with such a treat is... well it's a slap in the face people whom have been putting up through the game through it's buggy launch and stuck it out to report problems and help you fix it.

Loyal Wolfhound vanity pet to accompany you in-game. How about the LOYAL Subscribers that have been with you since Beta to present? The price reduction kind of hits below the belt too. Shame. I would even actually upgrade for this. You can keep the crab and the rings for the dog.

if people getting ruffled over a pet dog upsets you so much that you are "disgusted", there's probably no MMO community for you. Every community is, at some point or another, going to get your panties in a bunch.

Yes. And I can expect better of people.

I don't have to accept that this forum is going to be worse than the WoW forums. The community only gets better if people take a stand against unnecessary tantrum-throwing.

nothing is worse than WoW, forums or otherwise.

White Knighting the issue isn't really going to change things in this instance. It is what it is.

I advise lowering your expectations. MMO players are toxic at best and will ultimately end up disappointing you at every turn.

Edit: I really really do want steam achievements and trading cards, so I am definitely on board with being able to make our accounts steam accounts. I would pay extra.

As for paying more money, you paid for early access. That is ultimately always going to feel like you beta tested, but you got to get established before anyone buying on Steam could.

If I had not bothered to pre-order the game back then, I could buy it on steam now, get the monkey for having participated in beta, upgrade to imperial for the dog and mudcrab, and find an explorer pack code for the scuttler, thereby receiving access to all of the gifts.

But, since I made the mistake of actually supporting them, I am not allowed to even pay for access to this reward. I can't help but interpret that as a slap in the face.

ZO did absolutely nothing wrong here, its the entitlement by several gamers which is wrong.

And now they get a wolf and its still not enough. It reminds me a bit about little kids who you buy a football and then they want a tennis racket. :'(

There was another thread about this elsewhere on the forums and in my reply I said the following:

"When they released the PS4 version of FFXIV recently the Collector's Edition came with 2 additional items that were never bundled with the PC or PS3 Collector's Editions, namely a Moogle minion and Fat Chocobo mount (2 highly iconic things in the FF universe).

Oh, then they told us those who already had the PC or PS3 Collector's Editions would be given those items too."

I play FFXIV as well as ESO. I know I will definitely keep going with FFXIV and I really hope the same goes for this game too. I want ESO to succeed and, certainly for the foreseeable future, intend to keep subscribing.

However, when I compare how Square-Enix treats me as a subscriber and how ZOS does I can see a clear difference.

S-E could have easily sold those items to people as a microtransaction, especially the Moogle minion, but didn't. And this wasn't because of some outcry. They decided to do this themselves.

At the moment ESO's reputation, somewhat unfairly at times, is sketchy and a small gesture like giving the Whiterun Wolfhound to people who already owned the Imperial edition would have sent out an immensely positive message to the community and generate a considerable amount of goodwill.

actually, I don't think you can get the mudcrab, scuttler, or monkey. Unless of course you buy from an outside source and they can't really regulate that. It's unfair to expect them to.

Not to even touch on the fact that you have the huge benefit of playing all races in all factions.

For me the issue is that the pet can never be obtained by anyone who already plays the game.

I bought the imperial preorder so that I would have everything the game offers. I didn't want anything less than that. But with this new Steam edition every single one of us is locked out of that pet. We cannot even buy the Steam edition and unlock it that way (not that that would be something I'd ever consider doing).

Is it no big deal? Well yes and no. It's a useless vanity pet so in the long run who cares, but at the same time it's something only new players can get and it's that fact that's the issue here. It's something the 775,000 or so current subscribers can never obtain.

I don't really want the pet. It's not a cat. But I'm still not happy that I can never ever obtain it because I'm a current player, not a new one.

    See the issue here?

actually, I don't think you can get the mudcrab, scuttler, or monkey.

Steam page lists mudcrab for imp. If it's not available, then that's an even greater sin on their part. I earned the monkey from participating in beta, and have multiple codes still sitting in my inbox. The only thing I can't get "legit" is the explorer's pack items. Since I did pre-order the game, I did obtain a legit code for it. Theoretically, silly as it may be, I could very well have purchased the game, and then never bothered to redeem the code. Regardless, it's available. I can obtain it on a steam account. Can't obtain the dog on this account.

I am actually wondering if it's possible to apply that explorers code to an account started on steam? If not, I'm a little less ticked off.

I wouldn't be. I'm a man who hates pre-order exclusives to begin with, but even I see that they're offering an incentive for supporting a title before release, which is also before negative reviews surface, and before the inevitable day-one patches. It's a reward for actually having done something to support development.

And in the same vein as that, those accounts created on steam are new, they have the possibility of getting something they never even should have had access to if they can just go out on the internet and buy a code. That's all I was trying to say.

And I'm not really disagreeing with you. But the explorer's pack reward was never analogous in the first place. Whether they can or can't access it doesn't have an effect on my level of miffedness.

why doesn't the zos team give it to those that have the preordered imperial edition and listen to fans thats pretty crummy we cant get something cause we payed 80 dollars for the damn game and i bought 6 month subscription and this is how we are treated pretty good slap in the face to people that were actually excited enough to pay full price for the game and steam gets it for like almost half of what i payed while game was still very poor quality we should be given the dog and a steam key to down load game from steam for those that have a steam account and be given the dog vanity pet for being loyal fans and customers we pay 15 a month and we get F'd for paying full price for your game early every one should have just not bought the game when it came out this is an outrage i will not buy another zos game when it comes out if this is how you treat fans....

They should have really made the game accessible through steam to begin with, that was dumb. I pre-ordered the digital imperial edition and would have been thrilled to play on steam. And those of us who have played since the beginning and pre-ordered the imperial edition for $80 should get the damn dog that is now available for those who buy it on steam for less than $50.

Zenimax is contractually obligated now to only offer the Whiterun Wolfhound to Steam customers. In order to promote the game through steam and offer this pet exclusively, they would have been forced to sign a contract and thus, cannot go against it without legal retribution from Steam.

That said, they could offer the Whiterun Wolfhound to veteran players who would be willing to buy an "upgrade" to their account through Steam which gives veteran players access to the Steam community and the dog. Given that many players repurchased the game (I did not but I know many have) without knowing they would not be allowed to add the dog or Steam access to their current account, it makes sense marketing wise to take advantage of this. Only problem is that Zenimax would sound greedy if they did this... but then again, they do offer a vanity horse and Guar plush (with vanity pet) through the game store so I think it's a little too late to avoid this.

Hey, everyone. We’ve received many questions about how non-Steam customers can get the in-game ESO Whiterun Wolfhound pet that is currently an exclusive part of the Steam offer. While the grey wolfhound will remain an exclusive through Steam, we will be offering a brown version of the Wolfhound pet (tentatively called the Riften Woflhound) at some point in the future. Stay tuned for more details on how you'll be able to get your hands on one.

It's sad to see this route taken over that of giving every player even access to the same items and content via the online store. I was really hoping ESO would be a game I could collect every pet and item in for the first time, a game where there were no exclusives or deals which screw older players.

Today that dream died and with it a lot of my love for the developers of this game.

Think of it like this, desperate tactics to cash in. Making an "exclusive" pet available through "new CE steam accounts" only means that players with cash to burn will purchase second accounts and it may (most likely not) draw in new subs.

With something like this so early after a dire release it is just a desperate attempt to cash in, in anyway. The shame is, it will work in zos' favour.

Are you people seriously complaining about a vanity pet?

What has this world come to.

If you preordered or got yourself the imp edition you got special pets.
If you played beta you got a special pet.

Now people who buy on steam get a special pet.

    So what?

IT IS A VANITY PET, and it does not affect gameplay. Buy it on steam and make a new account if it's that important to you.

What i find really funny about this is how this does not seem something a sub game would do.
