Let me turn that around: What would have given me even the slightest indication that I should even consider the possibility that the currency Tome Points would not be persistent, just as every other currency in ESO is? There was absolutely no reason given not to open them.

Basic logic maybe? If you could take unlimited points over to other seasons, they would unlock as soon as they start until you reach the point when your current points do not match the required amount anymore. Over time that would lead to every season being unlocked as soon as it launches, as you get more points than you need unless you take every XP Scroll or other junk in the tome.

What base logic? They LITERALLY reworked Tickets into Trade Bars and GOT RID of the limit. They INCREASED how many Transmute Stones you can store if you have Plus. What logic are you even talking about that people would expect Tome Points to work any differently when two other Currencies were made either limitless or given a 150% boost in how much you can carry?

It seems you're simply trying to be contrary. It has been explained over and over and over that people do not think to look at a Help article (which again I assure you did not just open automatically for you unless you have an addon or hit your hotkey for it accidentally, because once more, NEVER have Help articles for new systems just opened on their own upon being interacted with the first time) when there has been little to no precedent to NEED to in the past. New systems being introduced, when they are revealed in full, typically are explained in detail over streams, articles, and Patch Notes. You've been shown repeatedly that in this case, the ONLY place this information was shown was in a Help article. Where, again, there has been no real precedent set for people to check.

As for "why would they let you unlock a Season as soon as it starts", you could make that argument for Trade Bars now. People can stock up on them, especially once other ways of getting them start coming and they aren't just from Events and Tome Points. It can get to a point where people can just unlock everything from the Bazaar when new items cycle in, they can just unlock everything from the Impressario when it's released instead of needing to partake in Events if they want stuff. The answer is "who cares what other people do", especially because of a fact you may not be considering; the people who have all these Caches to be opening got them by paying real money. Yeah, I think they're a little bit entitled to skip the having to unlock stuff part when the whole incentive for getting them is to do exactly that.

Also....people who sub for 12 months can "skip" doing Challenges ANYWAYS, all they need to do is only open, say, ten or so Caches and bam, they've skipped doing a lot of Challenges, can buy all the stuff, and not have to worry about extra Points getting eaten by the system. You also seem to perhaps be under the impression that everyone opening Caches has a full 11 or 12 of them? ...no? There are more than just 12-month subs, there are 1, 3, and 6-month subs as well. So not everyone using Caches is getting anywhere near enough to unlock everything right away, and again, those who are? They paid for it. Why are you calling people greedy for wanting to redeem something they PAID REAL MONEY for? Especially when the whole inventive to getting them is to USE them?

And another thing to consider: Let's say a person subs for 12 months. They get their Caches, they know not to open them all at once because of the rollover. They keep their sub at 12 months for, say two or three years. At this point they now have a backlog of Caches they can never make full use of because if they try to, the cap will eat any left over. So now they just have this thing they can never actually use fully. If the cap were higher it would be less of an issue. Something like 6k would be more reasonable, but as it is, it's too low.

I don't quite understand why L_Nici is being so vigorously defensive of the official communication around Tome Point expiration when ZOS via Gina's Reddit post has already acknowledged that this communication is insufficiently clear.

Just stop. It's become abundantly clear that the information was only available from the in-game Help menu, which most people do not think to check. Why? Because normally important details like this for new systems are stressed when they're revealed in detail. In streams, in articles, in the Patch Notes, which this WASN'T.

When they introduced Trade Bars, what was something they stressed in streams and articles? That they are unlimited and you can earn and have as many as you want. So the fact that they did not state something as equally important as a new system's Points capping at 2k per new Season ANYWHERE but the Help menu is utterly baffling.

Being condenscending towards people when the information OBVIOUSLY was NOT clearly communicated isn't a good look. As someone who watched all the streams and read every article, I again myself DID NOT KNOW the cap existed until I found a one-sentence mention of it on ESO Hub. And because I hadn't seen it CLEARLY communicated in any official channel, I didn't even know if that was correct or not.

So lets not sit here and poopoo on people for a lack of clear communicatoin about an important thing.

I also did not see anything "pop up" or any sort of introductory thing to the Tome that mentioned any sort of cap. There was nothing that came up on the screen at all that mentioned it, not on the PTS OR live. I opened the Tome and it was the same as on PTS, it shows the "welcome to season zero" page with a bit of info about stuff, and then you proceed to the actual Tome. Literally NOTHING there said anything about the cap.

Agreed. The only two essential places where this information should be communicated is in-game by the Tome Points listings in the Currencies tab and the Tome. Some sort of notice on the Caches themselves would indeed be sensible too, as a third location. Outside the game it should at minimum have been explained clearly in the official guide posted describing the Tome system. Instead, there is no indication in any of these places that one might even need to consider the possibility whether Tome Points could potentially expire.

There's fine print and then there's this crap. Low blow, ZOS. How many livestreams and posts could this have been mentioned in?

This particular bit of info was already circling in General here by March 31 the latest, which would have been a nice cue to ensure it was included in visible official sources, not just the help menu.

The help menu is distinctly odd. It tells you things like your chance of proccing a status effect from a glyph, but it doesn’t tell you how to proc the glyph in the first place. Of course it doesn’t even begin to get into the numerous exceptions to the rules it doesn’t mention. Its lack of key info and cart-before-horse approach make it really hard to recommend as a reliable source for information. As much as I’m a strong believer that people should take advantage of their resources (as many did and found out here or through content creators or discords), official articles explaining the new system should be the place to explain the new system — including relevant info like this.

I don't understand why every. Fricken. Fantasy. Game. Makes wolves one of the common enemies. WOLVES AREN'T LIKE THAT. Wolves irl 99% of the time are afraid of people and will avoid them, the only time you'll see wolves actively trying to attack humans is if they're starving/sick or feel threatened. It's a fantasy world replace wolves with any number of made-up animals!

That aside, it really is a pain to try and get certain mats for crafting Furniture. Something you can do is to buy any chapter of the Anequina Motif and learn it, and then you can use Mimic Stones (you get them from the Gold Coast Bazaar now and also from Tamriel Tomes as a possible reward to claim) to craft that item, then decon it. Doing this has a chance to give you the mat the Mimic Stone replaced instead of the Stone itself.

Of course that requires getting a decent stockpile of Mimic Stones, but it's something you can try doing on top of other things that have been suggested. I really hope one day they make all these Style Mats easier to source.

The frustration is reasonable because Old Orsinium is the only Public Dungeon in the game that forces you to do a tedious quest in order to access the group event boss. For someone who runs these dungeons for skill points, it's a nightmare.
