New Companion?

I am hearing a rumour that a new companion is being released with the next DLC.

I have looked everywhere but cannot find any info about whether this is true or not.

Does anybody know if this is true?

Nope! The best bet is Q4 or Q2 of next year when it comes with actual land mass and questing zone.

I've had my fair share of companions in SWTOR.

    Happier without them!

Isn't the next DLC just a dungeon? They'd better not start locking companions behind group dungeon completion. :|

Companion is huge thing and they didn't say anything about it in promo stream (you don't hide something like this if you want to sell dlc), there is also nothing in PTS and I doubt it that they ever add new one in dungeon DLC. Personally I think that we can count for one companion every Q4 DLC and two companions every chapter.

If you have to level up every new companion...its gonna get old soon. Why no skins and that's all? Being the prerequisite that you need at least 1 companion fully leveled.

Training skills, leveling and especially the guild skill lines are a grind fest. You need a few dozen millions XP to get a character to 20 and 3-4 weapon skills to 20. I mean if you're masochistic and wanna run nBRP or dolmens non stop for days it won't be a problem, but considering the low reward - an NPC with mediocre combat skills and even worse AI - it won't be worth doing that grind anyway.

    Why do we need another?

I was optimistic about companions but now that they are here they are useless. Another mmo i used to play 15 years ago used to have companions you could take with you to make up a party of 6 I think it was, even 15 years ago they had better AI than this rubbish ZOS has created.

Not in the next DLC, but perhaps with the final DLC of the year. To be honest, I'm not looking forward to levelling the fighters/mages/undaunted lines on yet another companion so soon.

Ahh yes Guildwars 1, funny how they are copying things from a game soooo old now. :p

I am hoping in time we can take a full party with our companions just like GW1. So if that happens, then yes more will be welcome!

Yes, yes we do! I'm hoping for at least 1 of every game class for a total of 6. Furthermore I like to see sometime in the future we can take 3 of them with us to do group content. The ineptitude of their bad AI script makes it more interesting when we fail miserably to do simple mechanics, it's gonna be awesome!!

Why another companion when 'training ' the code to work is needed first???

roll doge always out so that mobs rest
stand in stupid, but can whine when even a trivial one is being stood in by the player
cannot stand out of the way (ever)
randomly dismissed just by travelling the road

just to mention some of the worst 'issues'!

They bug stuff out a lot too, I took bsstian to cradle of shadows and he tanked quite well for me in there. Got to Dranoth Velador (or whatever his name is) still tanked him well until the chain part, Bsstian gets chained and you don't even get the opportunity to bash the spirit to interrupt them and Dranoth just insta kills bastian.

He bugs out in City of ash last boss too, when the boss teleports across the water bastian just stands there and will not follow.

They're not copying anthing, alas. You have to use companion armour, you don't equip your companions with the same armour and runes your characters use. You have to use companion weapons, you don't equip your companions with the same weapons available to your characters. You even have to use companion skills, you don't even have access to the same skills your characters have.

    Pictures or it's not true?

Mirri is an elf, Bastian is a man.
Mirri likes thievery but heavily dislikes the Dark Brotherhood. Bastian dislikes all crime.
And they both dislike murder, in general.

I think that opens the pretty clear opportunity to have a "bad guy" companion. Possibly an argonian or khajiit, possibly a member of the Dark Brotherhood. Could also be a necromancer, an undead...

I agree! Especially I want new class, because it would increase character slots limit <3

Blackwood is the first "chapter" which doesn't offer useful feature for me - I see it as just a new landmass to explore.

I don't need companions to help me with mundane tasks, and they don't enable me to do things which I can't do alone anyway.
What would I want from companions to make them useful? Any of these features:

    1) good AI and ability to perform dungeon mechanics (stand on plates, pull the lever etc)
    2) strong damage/healing and excellent survivability
    3) excellent cosmetic customization options - basically, they need to be able to equip everything which our own characters can equip. Hats, hairstyles, accessories, skins, body art, polymorphs, personalities. If I could customize my companion like this, I wouldn't even care that it's useless in combat - I would simply enjoy having something pretty following me. And if it would also try to help me in combat - that would be cute detail :)

I am not interested in their personalities, because - sadly - I dislike most of premade NPCs in the game, including Mirri and Bastian. Writers might make a companion which would satisfy my taste... Only if they make "silent assassin" companion, who doesn't have useless chat, and who gains rapport from criminal activities.

    BU1oUuL.jpg

Also, imagine if we could earn this Guardian companion after mastering Dark Bortherhood skill line and completing all related quests B)

There could be so many cool options for companions :(

Guild Wars had even generic NPCs just use the same skills as PCs did. So their companions (and there were eventually two kinds of those) worked pretty well.

    Guild Wars also had:
    • ALL combat content instanced.
    • Almost all combat content scaled for groups.

So companions made sense from the getgo.

Of course, NPC AI worked better for some builds than others. Indeed, the one bit of truly solo content I recall included a "mirror match", where you faced a doppelganger of your character. So the best way to build for that was to choose a skillbar you thought the AI would be particularly stupid at playing. :D

I just want to make my own. In Character creation. Give it a set of personality options. And a background story.

I honestly don't care about their usefulness. I just like having a character I can customize that follows me around. PvE isn't even really difficult. In fact, I think it's a little too easy. So, I have no reason to rely on companions for combat.

Idk, when you have the right gear and skills set, Bastian makes an awesome tank. I've done vet dungeons 'solo' and norm dlc dungeons with him, no deaths. So, as far as he goes, I'm really happy with it. Mirri's a little trickier though, haven't quite found a sweet spot with her, like the extra loot in treasure chests though. I'd enjoy having more companions, it's fun messing around with skills and gear. As a Warden, I wish I could do the same with my combat bear.
