I'll repeat it again cause I'm proud of myself - I have been wearing close to the same gear on my main Dranacea (wood elf stamblade) since the IC launched in August of 2015 - anticipating this very gear cap increase. My friends have gone through, 2,3,4 maybe 5 FOTM gear changes in this time.

I spent weeks considering what armor to get - what traits to choose as I do both pvp and pve - luckily my strategic choice has withstood the test of time.

I am not an ultra elite player but I play 5 out of 7 days of the week. I don't have all the BIS gear, but I have completed all the content I've wanted to up to and including vMA. I manage to kill people in Cyrodil at a higher rate than I am killed.

I am a Bosmer of simple tastes. I am content with my life - I have only rarely chased gear and tried to upgrade everything because I know that if I did, I would lose my freaking mind.

I will continue to wear this gear until the gear cap is increased. When it is increased, I will likely find my new gear and wear it proudly for another 2 years.

Maybe they could auto upgrade all cp160 purple and golden gear in our inventory to cp180 aslong as the character is cp180 or higher. They did say they weren't going to do this thoughtlessly which should be a good sign.

One obvious route to do this is via the Morrowind quest line (assuming an Item CP cap increase happens).

Have certain quests reward an Item Upgrade Token, that allows a CP160 Item to be upgraded to a CP170, or CP180 item.

You must not have a lot of gear.

Last I checked we can only wear on full set of armour, carry up to two weapons (4 if you bar swap between two x dual wield) and wear three bits of jewelry.

So a full set of gear comprises up to 14 pieces.

If you CHOOSE to want more than that the onus is on you to put in the extra work to keep your gear up to par.

Don't whine about a secondary or tertiary gear-grind you CHOSE.

    All The Best

You talk like your token system is already implemented. It isn't.

There are many reasons why a player would want more than one setup and I don't mean the obvious difference from PvE to PvP. The tokens would do nothing but clutter the inventory of those that don't need them and not long after become irrelevant because there is nothing left to upgrade. A pointless chore that still leaves us with the worst RNG of any MMO and more grinding for new sets.

    In english:
Once again: Details will be published when we have them.

Everyone here is aware of how hard it is to get those weapons in the perfect trait and how many golden tempers have to be used.
In case we were to increase the gearcap, it would not happen thoughtless, to make all your efforts meaningless.

One Tamriel applies to whole Tamriel, including Vvardenfell. Monsters have the same level everywhere, players are being adjustet accordingly.

So bottom line: A new gearcap will be happening, they just don't want to kill the mood right now

That´s a very wierd conclusion to make. He doesn´t say that gearcap will increase. Note "IN CASE WE WERE TO RAISE GEARCAP". This isn´t the same thing as "we will raise gearcap".

I see that you still didnt learn ZOSpeak so let me translate: When we will up the gear cp lvl we will think about keeping your master weapons on the max cp lvl, besides dont worry there will be plenty of OP sets exclusive to Morrowind.

Gear cap rises come to any MMO, it's the way of things but for those of us who have just sorted out our gear and builds, only to have to go through the whole process again, it can very disheartening. Not to mention expensive.

Nah, you don't need to follow the same as every other MMO, that's what makes most MMO's boring, they follow every other MMO. TESO is awesome because it's not like the rest, and I love the fact that ZoS doesn't think that they have to be the same as every other MMO.

I think we all know a Gear Cap increase will happen eventually, but the questions is: Does ZOS make all our current gear (and all those Gold Mats spent upgrading it) useless completely, or do they allow us to take our existing gear and use a few more mats to beef that gear up to the new max?

Especially if they keep the cost ratio the same. i.e. CP150 Sword = 15 Ingots to create vs. CP160 Sword = 150 Ingots to create.

Unless they're upping all CP 160 gear to the new cap they can keep that. Imagine having to re-farm all your bis gear again for not just one but up to 8 characters. If the rng wasn't so trash it wouldn't be a problem.

I am happy to hear that gear cap won't be increasing in the short term, but I am concerned about that "when" rather than "if". Hoping there will be a way to upgrade existing gear if that were to happen... INCLUDING jewelry.

For the record, I don't mind grinding for new gear if something better comes out. My existing gear would still be good, it's just the new stuff would be better.
Raising cap on the other hand means my gear is now lower level than the monsters I am facing, and while that doesn't matter so much for dungeons anymore, it makes a huge difference in Trials, meaning that I would not be able to do my favorite content until I reacquired everything I already have. THAT is what I don't want.

I want to move forward, not backwards. :)

Gear cap will be raised. Of course Gina would use the term when. It is outrageous to think in a game where its gone for v10, v12, v14 and v16 (160 CP) to not have a gear increase. It isn't something new to MMO's and its part of the grind. Ive spent thousands of hours grinding gear and millions of gold and it is W/E. Part of the game. The frequency of change would be concerning if it happened like v10 to v14 was but I would not be surprised if it happened once every 1-2 years. (CP 180, 200 ect). While I love the game, ZoS changes direction so frequently I've learned to just go with it.

Gear is no longer tied to progression because of the champion system so....

There is NO REASON to ever increase gear cap.

Their shouldn't even be a CP value attached to gear. No CP10 gear. All endgame gear should just say lvl 50. CP gear was a mistake and it was just a convenient way to phase out the veteran system.

However, I'm sure they considered it. Forcing everyone to have to buy morrowind to grind CP180 gear would have been tempting.

But they realized after how harshly they just betrayed their subscribers by ripping Morrowing out of the Subscriber business model, they didn't have enough good will to pull this off on top of it.

They don't plan to raise the gear cap in Morrowind, it might be raised at an later time like in 2 year with the Elsweir expansion if they feel for it.
Saying NO will lock them so they will not say it.

I wouldn't mind a cap increase. I like the feeling of bettering my character because I'm starting to feel stagnant. Most likely there will be a significant difference between 160-180+/-. I believe 180+/- blue set gear will out perform purple 160 set gear. This is based on the average I've seen in the MMO realm and it's perfectly acceptable.

What they should look into is a way to upgrade your existing gear via materials and a crafting perk..

Take CP160 gear and use X mats with Y skill, and upgrade it to CP200 gear.

During this upgrade process, you should have the ability to change the style of the armor, but not the trait it was crafted (or dropped) in. Obviously, the quality of the gear (gold, purple, blue etc..) should carry over once the armor is upgraded.

The amount of material required for said upgrade should also increase depending on the quality, but it should be no where near the current 150 required for a CP160 piece of gear.

This is a system that has been used before in other MMOs, and is proven to work.

This would also solve many issues, as well as avoiding others...
    - We get a transmog system added into crafting, which everyone is very adament about wanting.
    - We get quality of life, knowing we do not have to grind out a plethora of materials that we've done so many times before
    - We avoid massive inflation on the materials and gold upgrade materials.

Oh... 4 topics about the same issue already...
I hope ZOS will finally realize that this is important. People spend a LOT of time & recesses to get all of those CP160 set gear.
If they are going to increase the gear level cap - the best way to do this is to automatically convert all current CP160 gear to "higher" level cap. The players will not lose their progress & time & resources. And we will have higher level gear. Everybody is happy.

btw. I was going to grind some group dungeon sets today, but until there will be some official ZOS statement I will basically stop grinding gear and just wait.

Lol then why do it? How does that do anything?

With how things are set up in this game the only reason for a gear cap increase would be for progression. Automatically voiding that progression wouldn't make sense

You should never raise the gear cap, atleast not in the way so hard earned gear gotten through hours of terrible pvegrinding becomes subpar. If you do, its game over.
