No it isn't the same thing. There wasn't as many MMO players in 2004 as there are today.
Some could argue WoW made MMO more streamlined as well and set the opening bar to get more players into an MMO - because even though vanilla WoW was no joke, MMOs before it were a bit more 'hardcore'.
WoW had a very successful launch, impressing most published reviewers with a medium score over 90% and by 2005 had a playerbase over 2 million.

It's easy to forget that WoW didn't start out as a massive MMO.
Get over it, this game killed itself.

Seems like you should heed your own advice. Or is posting negativity in every thread of a game you hate/no longer play, what the kiddies do for fun these days?

Kiddies? Kiddies are the ones forgiving every single mistake Zos makes.

mmorpg`s tend not to die that easily.
DaoC, LotrO, TSW, STO, they are all still active, DaoC for 16 years and counting.
ESO I don`t know. Its greatest feature is the amazing graphics and graphics tend to age badly.
We will see. Right now I´m still having a blast.

You must have not been there at launch. It was far from impressive.
And reviewers are no different than most forum posters, fanboys or haters, except those schmucks get paid to write.

Ea's WaR? Star Wars galaxies? Asherons call 2? Those are a few off the top of my head that were very popular and died easily. Problem is many gaming companies pop out an mmo, cash in on the launch and the abandon the game or don't understand sustainment models.
Eso is a good game but it has serious problems. They can't fix the lag which is destroying their business model of using Mega servers. They are releasing pvp content too slowly. No arenas, no ladder system, no real leaderboards, no esports, no tournaments, no out of game rewards. They didn't target the Korean Asian markets and are stove piping themselves to the west. Yet everyone knows Korea is where its at for video games. They can't seem to balance classes and releasing new classes are not even in their radar for fear of balancing issues. They released a new dlc with passives that provide nothing for combat and are novelties at best. No player housing when games like bdo are releasing it at launch with it built in. They make false claims about what they plan to do and then back peddle like it never happened (e.g., spell crafting). They get the fan base excited over s million dollar giveaway yet when the time comes they don't capitalize on their marketing and ignore the sweepstakes like it never happened. Only to find out about the winner tucked away on their website. They don't have in game events sponsored by the devs. They claim this is a living breathing world but nothing ever random happens in it. Wouldn't it be cool if molog ball randomly showed up smack in the middle of cyrodil and everyone had to work together to kill him? Or maybe another God?
And this is just off the top of my head why this game will never live up to its hype.

I've been around games for too long to let a few mistakes bother me, as long as I enjoy the overall experience, I'll survive the odd flaws here and there. Heck, if I would demand a flawless game, I would never play any of Bethesda's game at all, they're riddled with flaws and bugs. But the overall experience and enjoyment is great, so I forgive those mistakes.

You really need to get your perspectives into order, and do take a few trolling courses, it's been amusing but I guess I've fed you enough for now
