Yeah, agreed on this. ZOS has some growing to still do but it's so much better now vs before.

Hopefully, they still continue to take steps forward and get better.

I am not trying to speak for them but you know how ZOS Kevin chimes in on a lot of threads and updates us on a lot of stuff? Well, that never really happened before unless it absolutely had to. That’s not a knock to any Community Managers, they just had so much on their plate and didnt have a ton of time to dedicate to it.

Now that they hired some people and we got Kevin we’ve had some increased communication and it’s great. Still needs to be better and can be frustrating but man, such a step forward.

Players should be allowed to duel their friends in Tales of Tribute and receive a reward after the duel has ended. Whether this is a non-ranked daily reward or a coffer is up to you of course. I just want a reward for winning a TOT match by duel challenge.

Conceding a match (usually due to bad RNG of card choices) should not result in a 15 minute penalty to queue for a new match.

I hope ZOS understands the more nerfs they do for PVP, the more it hurts PVE

Really? I could have sworn years ago the overall consensus was actual performance issues. Pretty certain I recall it being stated that they were causing lag, not just visual problems.
Either way, thanks for this info though. Capes was never my main subject here, someone just kind of took me away from my "bigger picture" on this thread. My main point was that I think during the making of ESO, Zenimax approached some of the development/designing/programming maybe not in the best way.... and that makes it struggle with or completely incapable of having some things other MMOs can-- and the lack of capes could possibly serve as proof of that (which apparently saying this stepped on some toes, haha). And hearing that they had said it was because of DX9 (I already figured ESO character models didn't have very many bones, just didn't know why).... well, I'd say that proves my thoughts were pretty accurate.

And shocker.... has nothing to do with previous games not having them, nor the devs desiring super realistic high quality capes-- but because of the simple fact that the game is unable to have even some relatively normal looking/functioning ones, like in other MMOs, as a result of the technical limitations that plague ESO. Again, thank you.

@ZOS_Icy beat me to it as I got caught up at work.

Let’s treat one another with respect, if someone is voicing a problem or concern, it’s wildly disrespectful to tell them their problem doesn’t exist even if it doesn’t for you.

If a problem sounds outrageous, impossible, etc… understanding why they came to the conclusion they did goes a lot farther than simply saying, “You’re wrong because my experiences have been XYZ.”

The game started going downhill when they started listening to a vocal minority about
    • Balance
    • How content should be made
    • What content should be made
    • "The game runs fine give them time to fix the lag"
    • PVP balance
    • Item sets
    • Overland difficulty
    • etc...

    The list is extensive.

For me, I took a year break, and coming back, the balance is worse than ever. DK, Warden and Sorc run rampant in cyrodiil, if you play any of the other classes, you will have an extremely difficult time, and sometimes they are nearly impossible to kill.

The lag. The lag on PC EU has become ridiculous. Sometimes with "50" ping, I am having to wait 2-3 seconds for my mist form to fire, breaking free is followed with another instantaneous stun, I am hit by 20 meter uppercuts, or through walls.

I would chalk it up to my connection, but this has been the case in three different countries now for me. The EU servers have needed a proper upgrade and update for years. Switching from 2010 servers to 2012 servers didnt cut it.

It really is no surprise really that numbers are dropping. All they really care about are super casuals with deep pockets, or streamers.

For me, U44 is U35 all over again. The people participating on the forums are a small percentage of the population. The people that play on PTS a fraction of that.

When this hits live, I expect a significant form of pushback. None of this was balancing, it was just heavy handed nerfing. We have precious enough sets that are viable already, and now you are adding AB, Pyre, Tarnished and Stormfist to that list. These are just not going to be used any more,. How is that balancing?

Also, who exactly wanted a class taunt on a charge? Anyone? Did anyone ask for the charge to be a taunt? Same as the change to necro ulti gen, or their blastbones. You are adding 'features' we don't want, whilst ignoring the complaints we have about the game.

This is the same balancing that saw Plaguebreak be only PVP, and Stranglers become super niche. Tanks finally got an AE form of taunt in Tormentor, after asking for it for years, for it to then be removed. I didn't use it outside fun random normals, but the option was there and I know a lot of people enjoyed the playstyle, especially WW AE tanking.

None of this is balancing. Balancing should not push a set in to obscurity, never to be used again.

It does appear that the aim of the game is mass mediocrity. Is that really what you want your game to be?

Like patches previously, people spent a long time getting the sets, making their build and then getting comfortable with it. This is then rendered obsolete in one quick stroke. It happens again, and again, and again, and you don't seem to care.

Half the time, the changes are to an item or skill that you previously 'balanced'. How? Which time was it correctly balanced? This time? Last time? The time before?

It is just tiring. A lot of us are already change-fatigued and with the general dislike they got with this patch, they still intend to go ahead, regardless. This is especially bad, considering the trending numbers, but they do like to 'double down' on things.....

Whilst steam is a small portion of the users, it is enough to estimate a trend and rough percentage. I full expect the next month or so, so the average steam player numbers to hit levels we have noT seen since early 2018.

Going to have to respectfully disagree with you here about the changes due to being from a vocal minority:

How are the nerf to Necro the responsibility of a vocal minority when every comment on the forums have been against it? It's like blaming a vocal minority on the changes in the animation of templar jabs. The changes that get rammed through are usually unasked for, unwanted and strongly protested against by the vocal community and get forced through nevertheless.

As someone who has PvP'd primarily on a Sorc and Warden, I am one of the many who have come out requesting a change on certain abilities e.g. Hardened Ward and Polar Wind. Why? Because playing an unkillable tank is not what I consider to be a 'strong' build: it's boring and not in the interest of the game.

And how are a vocal minority responsible for the lag? I can't think of a single post in these forums from players telling ZOS that fixing lag is not a priority. The longest thread on this forum is all about performance.

But yes, the player numbers are dropping. The sad thing is that many of these players aren't quitting by choice but because the game has become unplayable in its current state.

I dont know if i ever seen something like that in ESO, like 400 people arround and no lag.
Only thing was like frame drops when the boss spawned.

This was probably 1x the whole cyro population at one space and game is working fine.

What are the excuses for this to not be possible at eso?

    Simple, outdated technology.

If you see what newer games are pulling off these in the MMO genre, full open worlds with no loading screens and hundreds of people rendered at once with no issues.

I can forgive ESO since the game is pretty old but with single player games like Starfield it is pretty unforgivable we have 5 loading screens of separate rooms if I take the elevator to another shop in a city.

But I hope the next Bethesda games are doing major tech upgrades to get out the this 2015 tech debt instead of doubling down on them. I am happy Toddy gets a lots of pushback these days because of loading screen extravaganza.

Yeah my and guild mates been talking about moving to throne and liberty. It’s got its flaws but eso is no longer fun to play. It’s just a chore and every balance “ change “ is so outta touch with player feedback it’s deliberately it feels like. You can’t use any set don’t even worry about it because it’s gonna to be nerfed. Don’t matter what you use in this game ZOS is out to nerf whatever new set will be used by the majority.

GW2 is two years older than ESO and it also handles 100s of players in one location without crippling lag and disconnects — just frame rate drops, which is to be expected when you have that many players in one spot.

Then you werent around during the notorious performance patch, and the mass crying about people bringing up the horrid connection in pvp. They were dead saying " we need more patience " and rationalising ZoS' apathy toward fixing the network.

And you are right, not ALL the changes are because of a vocal minority, I said it has started getting worse when they STARTED listening to a vocal minority.

Until they make it official that the game is in maintenance mode, there is no excuse to let issues like this linger. They are still producing content, expecting people to pay, and in turn they should make sure the game people pay for, works well. Not works mostly, well.

GW2 is two years older than ESO and it also handles 100s of players in one location without crippling lag and disconnects — just frame rate drops, which is to be expected when you have that many players in one spot.

I think that this is ZOS adding things to the game that impacted performance without making the necessary changes, or insufficient changes, to maintain performance. Sort of like loading up the pickup truck with bricks and stuff, then wondering why the frame is sitting on the axles. Just don't load it up with junk.

Right now, based on 2024, I am assuming that announcement is "next year". Probably right after they conclude the 10th Anniversary Yawning Competition

And you are right, not ALL the changes are because of a vocal minority, I said it has started getting worse when they STARTED listening to a vocal minority. [/quote]

I think the above also got worse when their own devs stopped playing the game (PvP in particular) and they got rid of the Class Representation program. After that, the devs no longer had the knowlege and experience to filter and assess what was a good recomendation on the forums and what was a very bad one.

    @Elsonso
I think the 10th Anniversary was perfect, just not the the way ZOS had hoped: instead of bringing back all the old players back into the fold, the old players logged on and were immediately reminded why they left in the first place. The Server Planemeld Event was just icing on the cake.

Yeah, I had some people log on for the first time in years to check out the anniversary event.... I think only two have logged back on since and not consistently at all.
I'm used to not being very into the events in ESO (prefer the GW2 or even WoW style), but despite that I was still disappointed. I know they tried to say it's an all year round thing.... but throwing some free stuff at players, free stuff that some people already even have, still doesn't feel like much of a celebration of the game and it's players.

And honestly-- for this Halloween one, I'm just wondering if the NPCs will finally figure out how to take down all of their festive decor.

Once upon a time, Belkarth (Craglorn) was once a thriving throng of impressive warriors and mages, some on fearsome mounts and some flexing their powerful skills in readiness for whatever tough trial awaited. The atmosphere was awesome.

Fast forward to today and the crowds are thin and look more like an after school playground with fluffy pets and cartoony mounts the norm.

ESO has been, and continues to be sanitised into blandness with damaging nerfs and an unhealthy focus on casual and childish content.

What was once a challenging adult game has become a pale shadow of itself more suited to teenagers, students and the casual gamer market, and there's no sign of the steady decline being reversed or even slowed judging by yet another update containing misguided and unnecessary nerfs that continue to alienate players.

And THIS is belkarth rn , sunday 12 am cet, a ghosttown on PS EU

Well, U44 later today. Changes going to go ahead, even with us not liking them.

This is exactly how much our opinion matters to ZoS. Zero... Nada,,,,

Don't like this event, but I see they patched it mid event again. Timing is everything.
