What would you like to see from 2025's Companions?

I want something different than the usual player classes. Like maybe the companions can have background skills beyond them like a pirate or a mad alchemist/scientist who tosses bottles of corrosive & flammable compounds.

Just repeating the classes over and over seems boring

I like how every Companion Class mirrors the Player Classes in some way. Even their skill lines are similar to the Player skill lines, although obviously they are implemented very differently.

If ZOS were to add brand new skills that don't have a Player equivalent (such as new racial passives for non-Player races, or a brand new Class exclusive for Companion use) then players would be left out. Maybe said new Companion skills could be given to the Player skill lines as new Scribing skills, but that still doesn't make up for the new racial passives.

I do believe that every Companion skill should reference some existing Player skill, save for each Companion's unique Ultimate ability, which was designed to be unique to them and not shared by any other Companion nor Player.

Are they just repeating them over and over?
Last time I looked, they were mixing abilities from several skill lines to create a unique class for each companion.

It's been several days now and I am STILL upset they doubled up a race instead of completing all the base game races. I was so sure there was going to be a bosmer this year. I was just so positive.

I want races that fit thematically with my characters, I want orcs with orcs, Imperials with Imperials, etc. I have a two kahjiits, ember fits well with both of them.

Out of curiosity, what would you all want ZOS to do once they have made a Companion of every playable race?

I get the feeling that if ZOS decided to repeat all of the playable races again once every race has been covered, that players would be upset if they get another Companion of the same race and sex as an existing Companion, such as another male Imperial like Bastian Hallix, even if the new Companion has a totally different personality or skillset.

Like, imagine we get another male Imperial, but instead of an honorable Dragonknight, he's instead a cunning Warden. Some people would complain that we have yet another male Imperial, whether that's because they think the character is too similar to Bastian, because they wanted a female Imperial instead, or because they just wanted a Companion with a different race/class/personality entirely.

Repeat with different gender, and mix other races inbetween. I'd love a Maormer companion.

There will always be someone disappointed because companions are only released two at a time.

But, in addition to filling out the playable races, I'd also like to see them fill out some characters that aren't from the playable races like Maormer.

I'd also like to see some shaking up the classes. I'd like to see an NPC only class like a monk, for example.

That would be the only way I'd ever use a companion.... I'd make a duplicate of another of my characters, each different on each account....

    This.

Also, maybe mix other types of companions in, such as more 'pet' like species, or things like that, but still with customizable skill sets. Can't think of any game that does this, but think of like Dogmeat from the Fallout series. dog or big cat, or like the horse from one of the zones, quest line isn't necessarily from them, but rather about them. Such as finding out what happened to the dog's master, or where the big cat came from, things like that.

HOwever, I would like to see all the playable race/gender combos filled in first, and as well as other humanoid races/gender combos.

There are enough companions already to keep you busy leveling them. For those who need more we have just gotten 2 more, free for eso plus members.

So, I believe the time is to improve the existing companions with extra abilities or customization.

For example, I would like to get a second ulti, a second bonus and at least one new skill for each companion. Ofc, I would need to choose only one ulti or active bonus... But hey, what if I don't fish or I don't care about treasure chests?

I would also like to give them helmets and personality animations, even though we'll see lots of odd choices from players.

Last but not least, some buff system would be much helpful. I would like to give my tank companion a 30 sec buff to last in a boss fight (the fact that they die so easy in boss fights is what annoys me the most with companions)

It would be cool to customize their appearance when they are a guest in your house.

After thinking about this for a month or so, and seeing what ZOS rolled out for 2024, I am of the mind that I don't need to see any more companions.

I think that ZOS is out of new ideas, so anything they roll out will be ideas because they need something for a companion, not an idea that forms the need for a companion.

A goat like one of those that hang around wayshrines in Alik'r, but actually a powerful, but careless mage who inadvertently transformed themselves and either can't, or don't want to, transform back.

While powerful, their spells would have a chance of misfiring with hilarious, and possibly fatal, consequences!

It's sad, actually. Out of the blue there's so many character "types", even if some are trope-y at first - the story basically writes itself when I just take these as the start. How about a...
    - traditional witch or maybe druid
    - Argonian shadowscale
    - "classic" young mage willing to travel with an experienced adventurer to train with, without the street kid background and with more serious character traits (could have been a young Telvanni for the Necrom chapter)
    - the same with a fighter instead of a mage
    - deserter from the war in Cyrodiil (could have made something out of the random encounter in Gold Road) or criminal fugitive
    - wandering minstrel
    - younger Ashlander willing to see the world (or other tribal background, Orc maybe?)
    - Altmer hulkynd
    - scholar with a focus on some type of ruins (Ayleid? Dwemer?)
    - mercenary or gold/loot focused adventurer at first glance, with the story revealing they actually have other motives, too
And these are just sponteneous ideas; I didn't even think much about it. And I'm not a professional fiction writer by any means.

Helmets! Companions need helmets urgently. I don't even understand how this was forgotten. It shouldn't be complicated to solve. It is without a doubt the biggest flaw in the Companions and the most important problem to be solved.

Will be in store, but you can claim them for free if you have ESO+ (probably the same setting as with some other items that have a different price depending on whether the player has ESO+ or not).

I probably said it already in this thread, but improved AI, especially in combat. I managed to grab this screenshot (see below) last week because I thought it was funny. They're useless in combat when there's lots of AoE or other stuff going on, as there is with this WB. I think ZOS said it had improved them in the IA (though not really all that much, in my experience), so we know they're deliberately hampering companions' effectiveness in combat. Why, I don't know. Why put out companions and make them useless? Anyway, all I care about at this point is improved combat AI. I have all the companions I need already.

I don't wish a new companion tbf and more like an improvement of having them.
E.g each companion could "consume" and "deliver" you 2 types of specific surveys if you have some left (one survey each day like one Alchemy & one Woodworking as example) so it's really worth getting them.
