Just be like the other players in this skit and walk on by. Let players show off their shinies, as I said previously, some people like to flex their stuff and they specifically pay for certain things to show off.

Lol, they can stand there and flex in whatever they want to wear, or not wear (I feel like I’ve seen more characters running around in underwear of late — must have been a witch), so long as they don’t drop meteors, anchors, or other obtrusive nonsense on my screen!

While personally, I would rather ZOS have never made such things, it makes them money and makes some players happy, so I would simply like to toggle off such effects on my own screen. I’ll still see your uber radiant apex mount; it doesn’t need to cause a seismic event for everyone else. As for recalls, well, you were leaving anyway.

Agreed! This is the sort of option I’d wanted from when they started releasing custom actions!

The thing that bothers me is that people seem to believe that crass and glowy somehow equals quality. They could also sell the most hideous and glowy mounts in the cheap reward section of the box and many people wouldn't even look at them twice, because they are really nothing special. Many just like having something that others do not have. I think a nice and credible mount in the apex section would do just as fine as one of these glowing abominations. Just spend the extra time making an actually coherent mount that doesn't just fit one particular look. The look needs to be versatile, yet grounded, clean, yet intricate. There is no reason why the designers should have to put their best efforts into flashy stuff. Clearly there is a demand for well done subtle things.

Alas, I do not think that is entirely true, but that well done subtle appeals to a different market which, judging by quantity, spends less. The Ayleid crates were the first crates I ever spent money on because I actually liked most of the rewards, including the apex mounts, which are some of the rare examples that actually fit in Tamriel, yet I recall complaints about the mounts not having stupid fx or whatever. I love my Nenalata horse and have used them for one of my mains ever since I got the mount.

Edit: But seeing as how many others also love the new recall, hopefully there will be more well done subtle effects, mounts, and costumes in the future! :relaxed:

If people wanting to show off a bunch of flashy effects on their characters is what keeps the lights on for ESO I can live with it.

Besides, I'm just glad the loud/flashy stuff exists so it can be the more expensive/rare rewards. That way the more grounded/realistic/lore-friendly stuff I like to get is always cheap :D

    Way too flashy, yes.

And way too much magic, and way too many BS portals which fly you across continents and realms. Here we are in Blackwood and we need to make a quick romp over to Daggerfall? No problem! Here's a magic portal for you. (Sorry I couldn't make one for you to get up to the second floor ledge 9 feet above us in this xanmeer though... You'll have to fight your way through 80 daedric abominations to get there.)

Sorry I'll stop the rant before it starts, don't want to derail.

Yes, too many flashy eyesores. Absolutely.

    Yes, for several reasons.

Many are very uncreative and badly designed with terribly forced "lore" behind them. It's so much reusing of prexisting resources it's feeling lazy without much thought or care has been put into them.

Style consistency is important for games and especially mmos. When style consistency start to go away it's a bad sign.

One very important reason is that it makes me physically uncomfortable and causes me pain, and I know I'm not alone with it either. There are so many extremely bright and saturated flashes of light plus explosions of sound, people, myself included obviously, get headaches, migraines, nausea, eye pain etc.
Which has never been an issue with Elder Scrolls before, earlier ESO included. Such things was always more subtle and had a certain consistency to match the rest of the world.

Some of the cosmetics they release frankly feels like they are purposefully giving certain people tools to troll others. This is not a singleplayer game, there are other people around and these cosmetics are not a "If you don't like them, then don't buy it" thing, because I still see them when others use them.

Yes, and I wish it would all die down a bit, especially with regard to mounts and pets. However, I'm sure ZOS also understand what does and doesn't sell well, and they are running a business. Many people just want to be as garish as possible to stand out, and if they're willing to pay money for that then that's something ZOS must consider. I also feel like the cat's already out of the bag and we can't expect to put it back in. We certainly won't get an option to remove those effects for ourselves outside of general detail settings because those players are paying to show off.

I don't like it, but that's the reality of human nature and capitalism.

I say let them have their fun.

I'm more of an old school role player when it comes to gear/mounts/pets.

But I LOVE how this game offers so much variation that everyone can find something they like.

I feel similarly. It's an MMO. I don't like everyone's outfit and don't expect to do so. I am glad that the devs continue to offer items for both types of players. This particular mount is a bit over the top imo. So, I don't like it in particular. I feel like it's a bit too out there. But, flashy mounts in general I think are generally well done.

Whoever is in charge of cosmetics clearly is an MMO player but also is likely not an Elder Scrolls player. Here’s some advice on how cosmetics SHOULD have been handled:

    1. Are we having a Blackwood Zone DLC? Call the new crates “Blackwood” Crates and theme 100% of the items around the zone.

    2. Are we having a Shadows of the Hist Dungeon DLC? Call the new crates “Shadows of the Hist” Crates and theme 100% of the items around the two dungeons.

    3. Are we having an Update 44 patch based on Battlegrounds? Call the new crates “Battlegrounds” Crates and theme 100% of the items around the Pit Daemons, Fire Drakes, and Storm Lords. Develop lots of new lore about their origins and give us lots of cool cosmetics for each them.

Elder Scrolls lore is so expansive and rich. It should have been so simple and would’ve allowed them to permanently make Crates which are unique, build on existing lore, and never have to push into the realm of true generic MMO flashiness.

Instead they pushed totally random stuff like “Ice Atronach”, until eventually they ran out of ideas/color themes. Now most things are just flashy slop.

I've been saying for a while they should just have a "performance mode" that should just put anyone who isn't you in basic outfits and mounts. It would solve a lot of issues with not just personal taste. They could add arachnophobia and crouch toggle animations too

I'm OK with other folks enjoying their flashy mounts. For myself, I use most of the seals I earn on the less expensive mounts, and try to get the mounts available from events and drops. And then have each alt set to use random mount. Never know what they will be riding next. Works for me.

I really don't think that will ever happen because the entire point is to show off. I'd like to be able to toggle visibility of non-combat pets, but I know it's never going to happen for the same reason.

I DO think there could and should be a toggle for *combat* pets in non-combat areas though. ZOS said they were working on this and when their implementation finally came, it barely served anyone. I'm so tired of non-stop bears and daedra, and we know it's possible to do because they use this code for companions.

per se the Neon classes, flashy exploding mounts and "here I am" screaming recalls (some of them are really great but Dolmen ist just awful) might be fine - but in my opionin this game is loosing so much of its initial "medieval fantasy" style and feeling.

So while its getting flashier with every new Shop and Crate update in my perception its getting blander because immersion is suffering.

I don't know what players think they are showing off. When I see a player riding one of these loud and flashy mounts it triggers a negative opinion in my mind, not the admiration they think they are getting.

What ZOS is trying to do is provide options for everyone who wants to wants to design characters in a way that suits them, and I think we can agree they do that well. But I'm sure they also believe that if a player is going to pay for something with real money (or loyalty reward currency) that allows them to stand out visually, that is considered a prestige item, meaning that player expects other players to see it. So that's why I doubt a toggle for those visuals will ever become a reality.

Should it have gotten as over the top as it is now? I agree with you that it shouldn't have, but if people are buying them and using them, then ZOS is doing their job. They're serving a demand and making money to keep the game running.

The portal that opens for Hollowjack is insanely loud.

I am a fan of flashy if done right and given this is a fantasy game, it should be welcomed with good taste. So a frost mage should have a cool ice staff, fire mage have flames etc. The skill styles were a nice change imo.

This particular thread seems to focus on the new abomination of a mount which looks so bad I am tempted to grab it for Trample grimoire. We also have the Jester festival event/Cadwell weapons styles that allow you to wield a sword fish etc. It seems there was a shift.

Yeah this game has not been serious for awhile. There are too many annoying NPC voice actors that bleed my ears. Non-DLC zone quests were some of the best content of the game, but ZOS has shifted away from this with different writing and direction.

Not to divert the OP title of the thread, but things are flashy and loud because of the direction ZOS chose to go to make $$$.
Making a game fun should be a priority. Making a game balanced should not come at the expense of fun.

I don't know how anyone could possibly look at the newest 4 armed glowing banana mount and find it prestigious. These types of mounts are eyesores and completely destroy any chance of taking the story, and the game, seriously now.

If others manage to capture other's attention they need to know that it's far from the attention they think they are getting.

Yeah, it's incredibly cursed and I wish they didn't put it into the game. But they did it, no doubt because they knew people would talk about it, and here we are talking about it. They're banking on the sensational nature of the thing, and certainly people will buy it because it's exactly as stupid as it is.

I think there are enough people who either legitimately like it or think it's so stupid that it's funny that it will have been worth the effort for ZOS to create. That doesn't mean I think it was a good thing to put into the game from a lore or aesthetic perspective, just that they can make some money with it.
