Are on-screen advertisements for the Crown Store acceptable?

There seems to be some confusion as to what and where the messages popped up. This is what it looked like. Large letters in yellow across the screen. This is what we are voting on.

I don't mind, but I do think we should start calling them Zo$ from now on. Heck even before the game came out we saw the money grabbing.

Spamming ads so early into the new model is a bad sign of how mich direct influence the money men are having on in game stuff and , just as when studios mess with TV shows, this is unlikely to end well.

If they are really going to turn this into a scrolling advertising screen then at the very least this spam should not be inlicted on those paying subs.

Might explain the PvP lag though - it's the server overhead from all the new Coke & BP ads above the keeps...

I have been referring to them this way since the announcement of B2P. All they have to do to get us to buy stuff, is put stuff in the store that we want. So far, less than meh....

@Gidorick I am hoping that you just clicked the wrong button....I would think you of all people would be against this kind of thing. If you do find it acceptable, I would love to here your thoughts on why this is ok.

It's fine with me as long as it only remains their very own products, not third party or mother corp products; ESO products only. For the same reason that I would fly a commercial on the side of my van for my products so that you know of my services. To me, it's not "selling out" till you start flying other people's products. Besides, I have to click a UI error pop up for my addons on each log, this won't really be any different....just a click before I start is all.

Yes, it is annoying but as long as the term "acceptable" is used, yes, I can accept that a company would want to promote their own products.

Feel free to show some proof that I agreed to see adds pop up on my screen. Very well could be that is is hidden in the fine print somewhere. Either way, you cant convince me that I like it.

I voted non-acceptable because (if true) I don't like it.

However, I don't mind the ads on the launcher and I wouldn't mind seeing as many as one an hour in chat. But across the screen (if true) is no good.

Even the guy who dropped the elder scroll 30 times in 5 minutes last month made me hate any messages across the screen.

I don't mind.... ZOS needs to make money. Them letting us know about crown store offerings doesn't seem like an inconvenience. Now, I have caveats to that. It should only pop up on initial load and not randomly during gameplay. Like a tip of the day.

To be honest though, I've been away on holiday for a few days so I didn't actually see the in game notification. At the time of my vote I thought this was a theoretical problem.

Knowing that it actually happened lead me to read upon it. I just don't think it's as simple as should we have them or shouldn't we. It's HOW they're used... Their existence doesn't bother me, their misuse will.

National pet day? THAT irks me.

Of course @Valen_Byte, it's possible I'm experiencing the early stages of Stockholm Syndrome.

Here at ESO we do not do events. But if theres a chance we can use it to boost cash shop sales we will send out a thinly veiled advertisement.

I voted they are NOT acceptable, but... in the moment of clicking that option changed my mind. Too late. :-(

It depends entirely in how it is used. A message that scrolls up my screen upon logging in? Fine, though I do tend to log and relog quite a bit in a gaming session, and that would become annoying to me. A message when they've added new DLC? Also fine, since that is something I actually WANT to purchase.

Today I played for 4 hours, and the National Pet Day notice came up twice. That is definitely too much, and definitely too soon.

I agree, a simple system message is fine. But I don't agree that a message every two hours counts as a simple system message.

This was my experience today. In 4 hours, the message happened twice.

Edit for clarification: in that 4 hours, I did not switch chars or zone anywhere. 4 hours, same char, same zone, 2 messages.

Absolutely NOT acceptable under any circumstances. It's a slippery slope and just one step away from RNG gambling boxes and "xxx won a XXXX" spam splattered across the screen. I feel fortunate as an EU player, that I didn't see this nonsense.

@ZOS: You find an artist who knows what a dog looks like, and how a dog moves and improve these current abortions, and I will buy one. Until then, I will NOT be buying any dog pets at all.

I agree. How something like this is implemented is most important. When I made this poll, I was specifically referring to how they plastered the message across the screen during game play.

If it had been a one time message when I logged in, that would not have been so bad. If it had just been a chat box message, ok fine. But, I'm in a dungeon, fighting for my life. Message pops up, I dont have the ability to ignore the big yellow message. I have no choice but to read it. This makes me take my focus off of the game.

System messages of any sort should never interfere with game play.

There are plenty of ways to market to their customers. We do not need a message coming across our screens interrupting our gaming experience. Talk about immersion breaking... which is something ZOS, I believe, has prided themselves on since the beginning. I mean, the UI is as bare bones as it is for a reason. Why are they all of a sudden turning their backs on this?

Oh wait... $.

I am all for them making money, make tons of it, please, so that we may all continue playing. Just keep your money grabbing tactics off of the middle of my screen. Do it when we first log, do it in chat box, announcements in the login page, plenty of other places to do it.
