@ZOS - "Data load failure" is still a HUGE problem and your support team has NO IDEA what to do

  • NickWindust
Yes, I deleted everything related to ESO including the launcher, ran Onyx to clear out cache's etc, rebooted etc....I agree the Launcher binary is faulty, and that is why I deinstalled ESO entirely and attempted an entirely fresh installation.

Well, then all we can say is "tough luck", I guess. I'm sorry your problem persists, and I would hate to be in the same situation myself.
  • NickWindust
Good news / Bad news. The good news is that after 5 cycles of deleting the launcher and downloading it again, the client finally downloaded, and I was able to login and play ESO again.

Bad news is a completely fresh install did not prevent the "Data Load Failure" from occurring, or prevent the associated memory leak to not tag more and more RAM as "inactive"

Please keep us updated, we'll be able to provide you with support.

what kind of suggestion is this please? oO

but if it helps u.. i bought a new harddrive 2 weeks ago.
so i had to reboot.. lol.. and reinstall windows and obviously the game.

i keep getting dropped to desktop for the data load failure error. BEFORE and AFTER reboot.. lol.. and reinstall.

The "data load failure" problem has been getting more frequent for me as well lately. Not to the point where the game is unplayable, but definitely to the point where it is annoying, like several times per hour. Repair or reinstall does not help at all, and neither does restarting the game or rebooting.

I've repaired, re-installed, reported, disabled add-ons, and minimized settings. And I still get the error and if I ignore it, then I come back and see a "missing" red box. The error message is titled "critical error (artdata" and the box says "data load error". If I click on "ignore" then I can come back and play the game until it happens again. If I choose to fill out a report then the game crashes and i have to restart.

The "missing" red box has been a leaf, a book, a rock, in walls, in plants, inside and outside, in Cyrodiil, in battle, in banks, while afk literally doing nothing.

This bug started for me after 1.2.3 and at times can make the game genuinely unplayable and/or unenjoyable. I don't think ZoS is doing nothing. I just don't think they understand exactly what the problem is.

Hey there, everyone. Is there a particular action or path that you're taking when you see the error appear?

While we've been actively investigating the "data load failure" error, we'd like to get some additional information from you to help identify the cause. If you're experiencing this error, please submit a help ticket to our Support Team, and attach a Game Consultant file directly to your ticket. I don't know if this will help anyone, but I never open the game from the launcher. You can also start the game directly from the client's.exe file without going through the launcher. I set an icon for both the launcher and the client's .exe file on my desktop. To get to the client's .exe file, go to your computer's Start menu-->computer-->Program Files (x86)-->Zenimax Online-->The Elder Scrolls Online-->game-->client. In that folder, there should be an .exe file named "eso". Right click on it and select Send to-->Desktop (create shortcut). If I know there is an update to download, I will run the launcher to get the update, then close the launcher and start the game from the client's .exe file.

This entire post and the other are after being in contact with the customer support

This is not due to ports not being open
This is not due to certain actions being permformed in game
From talking to many many others this is directly a result of the large Tuesday patch from weeks ago.

When all the updates were made and lighting (that update) is causing these issues.

It's not video drivers or PC drivers
    It's not network issues
    It's not an installation issue

It's not resolved by repairing, uninstalling and putting a clean install on

This may be related to anyone using a laptop but it needs to be fixed on your end. Many of us have played since BETA and this issue is happening outside the game but from and error caused in game

Even closing the launcher doesn't cause this not to happen

There should be enough information above to start looking at this issue. There are also two other threads in this forum with a lot of details.

My incident 140707-001801 which was now closed because they didn't offer any suggestions to fix the issues. They seemingly just took me through their trouble shooting book or procedures that just waisted hours of my time while I was passed around from person to person.

I'll add, tho it may not be your job to call initiate this information into a ticket, we each have created tickets and now resolved to interact via the forums.

Thus the title of this thread as my other thread concluded from various responses from moderators and customers that this is not being taken as an URGENT and important issue.

One that deserves a sticky and some research and data collection on the part of Zenimax to hopefully resolve this before our subscriptions run out.

Why not take the initiative and create a sticky to gather this info since the customer support end is not and from released threads, your customer support is lacking on the technical side.

As someone who has never had this problem, and i play on various different computers, i think it would be interesting to see what those that do have this problem have in common, aside from the obvious like the game and the problem.

the game consultant report file can help the techies in such cases a lot as it shows what hardware is used and what processes are running in the background.

it could be something totally innocuous that nobody would suspect under normal circumstances.
I have seen some weird problems caused by some generally harmless programs.
Just a thought and at any rate more info can never hurt.

ye can find the steps to get that file in This Post

I'm sure if ye post them here the techies will be happy  and, who knows, might be able to pin point the problem a bit quicker.

You do realize when you send in a support ticket they ask for that anyways....its not like they don't have it already for each person.

Just for added security, we ask that these Game Consultant files be sent directly to our Support Team and not posted publicly on the forums -- it's also the most efficient way to get that information to our team. Thanks for your understanding.

Well from this post here: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/114209/data-load-failure#latest and the current topic we are under and other tickets from other folks.....

All I'm saying is computer work isn't that hard if you're the developer.

Either its compatible or its not....make a statement with specs and post it.

    The problem does persist.

If occurs while I'm fighting, crafting, walking around in a city, talking to an NPC and so on = it doesn't matter what I'm doing.

At once I get it the first time I will probably get it like once every minute until I reboot my computer several times.

Last week I was trying different things to improve performance in Cyrodiil. One of the first things I did was switch from Windowed Full Screen to Full Screen which should have improved performance.... it didn't. Full screen mode was slower, had more lag, and was throwing data load errors every 5 to 30 minutes. As soon as I went back to Windowed Full Screen mode, things got much, much better.... better fps, maybe 1 data load failure every 4-6 hours (if that). and far less lag.

Now that I am back to Windowed Full Screen, even the biggest Cyrodiil battles are playable :)

    My system is:
    Windows 8.1
    AMD FX 6100 6 core 3.31GHz
    8GB RAM
    230gb SSD drive
Nvidia GTX 650 (driver version 337.88) running dual screens.

I had some luck last night and found a game consultant log file from April 15. I included it with five from last nights gaming session so they can compare. I opened a ticket and did everything that Jason asked us to do. I'm going off the grid with this problem now.

I've seen others state this and I just don't get it? How could Windowed Full Screen be faster than true Full Screen when it should be using all the resources of the GPU? Both my wife and my sister-in-law say they get faster FPS in Windowed mode and I refuse to believe it because it just doesn't make sense :)

So either my wife is wrong (and they never are), or something is seriously flaky about Zeni's full screen modes.

When in beta I had this problem all the time.
I only subbed last week....and never have this problem at all.
Alas sky bought out Bethere since then.
My pc has changed since then.
The router remains the same but was updated to suit sky network.

Has anyone tried rebooting their modem/router just out of interest.
Rebooting the PC might initialise the PC/router connection but errors build up in the router again.
Perhaps assets cant be downloaded in time or found in time ?
This is worse with server load after all.

Perhaps a snapshot of wireshark when the bugs pop up could help.

Yes, again the issues are not on our end.

Just to share I accidentally cleared my router so it was setup from start to finish. I even had my ISP come by to set it up.

Then my brother came to look at it who works for M$ and helps to manage their Exchange servers for Bill Gates and other high profile associates.

I tend to trust their direction over my own.

So they checked things over and sent me a link to some updated video drivers for my system. I was immediately skeptical as I haven't had any video performance issue, just this stupid error. Nonetheless I did exactly what they said and I have to admit that I received far fewer errors. Instead of 15 or 20 last night, I only had 2 or 3. I haven't closed the ticket yet because I want to make sure it isn't just some fluke where I'll have 20-30 tonight or over the weekend. Still, I'm hopeful!

    **ADVANCED USERS ONLY:**
(Don't go to the web address below without knowing what you are doing)

Here are the basic specs for my system:
    Windows 8.1 Pro (64bit)
    AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
    AMD Radeon HD 5670

They sent me here for the drivers (Note I did NOT pull the Beta version):

    http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows 8.1 - 64#amd-catalyst-packages

**If you don't have something close the specs above you really shouldn't be messing around with this stuff. You have been warned! Also note that the link above might become a dead link at any time in the future. I'm not going to check back in 3 months to see if it still works.

The install was pretty funky but I mostly went with the defaults and did a restart before loading ESO.

I actually tried updating drivers before even contacting them, being sure to try everything on my end first. The most recent drivers made another game have launch crashes and caused various other issues, along with not helping with the artdata error here either, and was forced to roll back for the time being, either way, worth a try for some I suppose.

I put in another 3-4 hour session last night and only got the error 2 or 3 times again. It has not fixed my problem completely, but it does seem to be helping. The next time I get the error I'm going to run the game consultant and then follow up on the open ticket I have to report the reduced but not gone status.
