@ZOS - "Data load failure" is still a HUGE problem and your support team has NO IDEA what to do

    I was having the problem too, I have webroot security. Once I scanned my computer and then rebooted everything my game has been running fine.. try scanning and rebooting it may work for you .

    I will try this but I bought a virus program instead of using the Win 8.1 default and ran it as a full scan cause I thought there was an issue but nothing was found...Webroot...ill see what happens

    I noticed last night and Sunday I was having this issue, maybe not the exact same as the thread was created for. However I noticed that the Launcher was updating the PTS client. Once I paused that, the game became more stable. Now I am in the habit of killing the launcher before I actually log into the game.

    I have this too. It often happens many times a minute.

    At times it makes the game unplayable.

    Btw, I'm not even sure how to report this under /bug. There're so many confusing sub categories that I don't know which one to pick.

    I have this problem also. I thought it would have been fixed with this week's patch, but still a problem. Last night I didn't do any questing or fighting, just hung out in crafting center and managed inventory. I would get this error while my hands were away from the keyboard making notes with pencil and paper! Sometimes I can go for a long time before it starts, but once it starts, it seems to occur with increasing frequency.

    You should report this stuff to customer service outside of the game...

    I built my machine, be my 6th one I built for myself. I have no idea how many I have built total. Networking was at one time my toy. Built a lot of networked and network systems. I ran servers for years.

    I was having this issue, but on the recommendation of ZOS I repaired the launcher and haven't had it since.
    Hmm, I have done this many times and it didn't work....were you in the BETA by chance?

    Maybe we should start giving them some additional data since we obviously have their attention!

    My OS is Windows 8 64-bit with 8GB ram. No antivirus running because Windows 8 has some good stuff native. Occasionally run Malwarebytes on it. This is my gaming rig. I'm the only one that uses it. Not a beast by any stretch, but has performed solidly with this game.

    I was an original beta tester. I have only had to "repair" my install once and that was well before the last major patch or any of these issues surfaced.

    After problem started, I did run a full anti-malware scan and also Auslogics defrag and optimize.

    Taking into consideration that I'm trying to play not troubleshoot, but here are some things that I would look into if I were in a position to do so:

    * Error can occur when user is away from keyboard. (Any chance audio is playing a roll in this - it's just a shadow of a thought, but it's one of the things that can change while the user is not interfacing with the computer.)
    * Once error begins, it repeats at seemingly shorter intervals as time goes by
    * I jump between PvP and PvE. It SEEMS like I don't get this until I jump, but I'm not sure because I'm busy playing, not documenting (sorry!)

    Well, hopefully a pattern will develop for your techs so they can chase this thing down. Thanks!

    Gamebreaking issue im having is how ESO uses like 50x as much internet bandwidth as WoW does and it makes large scale pvp impossible for my internet, of which i get "7mbps" and it is the highest available speeds from any company in existence for my area.

    In comparison, I have no delay or lag issues in WoW, or sc2, and I never had any when I used to play things like Halo/cod/other games on my xbox 360, with the same exact service.

    Which makes it all but certain ESO is the culpret.

    Well thanks for moving it but my thread in customer support doesn't have answers either so I posted one in general. It's rough to attempt to resolve an issue caused by the company when the company isn't sure how to assist.

    No responses make me assume it hasn't been read or that it wasn't escalated to the development teams.

    When I have noticed continued flakiness, I have resorted to rebooting the PC (with an SSD and no back ground apps, it only takes me about 12 seconds to do this) and the problems seem to go away for the rest of the session.

    Perhaps this might help with this issue until they get it resolved.

    I expect the next patch to melt our computers =) I can't even count the amount of times this has gotten me killed.

    TBH, I would say that 80% of my deaths in this game are due to complete ***. Not being able to break a stun, my weapon bar being grayed out, lost of keyboard functionality, ability lag. The list just goes on and on and it's getting old fast.

    Can now confirm that it has nothing to do with jumping between Cyrodiil and PvE. Last night did not enter PvP at all and got the error.

    I'm going to start put on my techie hat and start seriously troubleshooting this. Will report back when/if I find anything interesting.

    Just screams resource leak, doesn't it? What's weird is that I don't ever take a performance hit. Just a rude interruption to my game. If I could just suppress this error, I think I would be fine. It is of no consequence except for the fact that it kicks me out to the desktop for a moment.

    Perhaps a hotfix that would auto ignore the error?

    I don't think that terse dialog box belongs in the game anyway. It does not come across as a proper user land dialog, more like a beta test or debug feature that should have been disabled, or made more user friendly.

    Ive been taking screenshots of every red box I see after I get the bug. Eventually im gonna bomb the forums and/or their customer support with it.

    Chiming in to say this still affects me as well. Usually every few hours. The worst is when it occurs during combat, basically it is instant death.

    I have sent in several /bug reports in game, as well as 5-6 "debug" reports from the artdata window.

    Really hope it gets resolved soon as it make me very hesitant to do any grouping where others may be relying on me.

    I'm part of the decline. As my ore paid time expires in mid August. This error and some other silly news is the reason. Just follow my comments and posts if ur curious.

    If you get the error, please click the "ignore" option. When it puts you back on your desktop, click on the icon again and it'll bring you back to the game.
    • In the same time, could you please disable any of your add-ons, as these can cause errors when they are out of date please?
    • We also suggest that you try repairing your launcher to ensure that your game is up to date.
    • You could try to slighty down your resolution from the general settings while in game.


    Alternatively, Players who run a Windows can try alternatively to check their Windows display settings and deactivate any Aero Mode:

    → Windows 7:
    1. Right click from the Windows desktop page and select Personalize.
    2. Select one of the Basic themes

    → Windows Vista:
    1. Right click from the Windows desktop page and select Personalize
    2. Click on the link "Open classic appearance properties for more color options"
    3. In the drop- down list that pops up, choose Windows Vista Basic
    4. Click on apply and Ok.

    Note that Aero mode isn't a feature of Windows 8.

    If the issue persists, please enable your Aero mode.

    I decided to try uninstalling the game and starting fresh. However, I can no longer download the game. I can download the launcher, but the launcher stalls when downloading the game client.

    Worse yet, and completely fatal, is that as the launcher is running, the amount of memory flagged as "inactive" keeps growing until all memory becomes "inactive". So there is a major memory leak associated with the launcher.

    A similar memory leak leading to increased amount of "inactive" RAM happens with the Data Load Failure error. That is why the error probably happens more and more often during a given session.

    In both cases, the "inactive" memory is not released when you quit the game or reload the UI (/reloadui). I now routinely run a "purge" command every so often.

    As a result I can't reinstall the game now. No client, no gameplay, and my subscription money is now flushed down the toilet !!!!

    I don't mean to sound like a "doubting Thomas", but given that the error seems to effect many different O/S and hardware configurations I'm not sure adjusting Windows video settings is going to fix anything. Likewise downloading the client has reportedly (per these newsgroups) been tried many times without success.

    It seems to me that the error is coming from within the game and not the O/S running it.

    If your team could just figure out the process that is actually generating the message, I think that would go a long way in tracking down the root cause. I mean, if you could just turn the error message off that would be huge! Most of us would be able to play normally but for getting kicked out to the Windows desktop to acknowledge the error every time it is generated.

    Rebooting as suggested by ZOS_LenaicR did not solve the inability to download the game client, nor did it prevent the massive memory leak during the stalled client download. This entire endevour is a total fail.

    So I am watching my subscription money burn in front of me, and despite the sincere apologies, expressions of sympathy and empathy, there is no remedy. Helping may be your passion, but I feel like I'm 16 years old in the back seat of a car all hot to trot, begging to just have it touched, just a little.

    ESO is in terminal condition for me and has only a limited time to have a place in my life, and perhaps for an increasing number of those on the forum having similar problems as well.

    Did you try to download the launcher from scratch? It sounds to me as if your launcher binary is faulty.
