Did Anyone Else Get Screwed By The Tome Auto Claim?

I thought 2000 points were supposed to roll over, then the rest is blown on the junk we made clear we didn't want? I only got 1400 rolled over, and got stuck with that divines-awful crap-on-lore flashing dwarven spider mount, two other cosmetics I didn't want, and outfit change tokens for some reason. Wasn't that junk only supposed to get auto claimed by points exceeding 2000? Did everyone else get screwed over by this, or am I special?

I didn't unlock the Premium stuff so I didn't get affected by this BUT I thought it was only the non premium stuff that was going to be auto claimed, so I would've got caught out for sure if I had.

As far as the rest went I just brought everything anyway so I knew where I stood.

If you are over 2000 points, the autoclaimer buys unpurchased stuff. I believe unpurchased currencies are the highest priority items (Outfit Change tokens are a currency of sorts), followed by Premium Tier items, followed by Free Tier items, and I think it works backwards from the end of the Tome (Page 10) to the front (Page 1). The Dwarven mount was a 1000-point Premium Tier buy on Page 5, so it would take priority over Free Tier skill style and Maul outfit piece on the same page. So if the autoclaimer spent down to 2400 on that other stuff (the Outfit Change tokens were on Page 7, btw), then you'd have still been over 2K and the 1000-point mount would have been next in the chute.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

But shouldn't keeping the points be the priority? If I kept them, I obviously kept them on purpose! (that's not actually a question for you, I'm screaming into the void and hoping zos decides to make sense next time)

They have heard all of the complaints about the auto claimer and are looking into possibilities, such as being able to opt out of it, but nothing‘s been confirmed. But at least they are aware.

You aren't the first and definitely won't be the last ("welcome to the heavenly chorus," in other words), but your situation of that 1000-point buy dragging you significantly below the 2K carry-over is an excellent example of "the autoclaimer needs work."

Repeating my complaint here for visibility since it's another thread.

I bought the Premium tome and was dismayed it used a good number of points to claim the mount and pet I specifically did not want.

Things like this will make me think twice as to paying for the premium tome if the end result is I spend money on claiming things I don't want to claim, and will have to balance this against whatever it is I do actually want.

I had understood it would have "been bad" in my view - I'd have preferred to be able to choose myself when to claim those rewards, cause potions and stuff can be useful but at this moment they are just clogging my bank. SO, I claimed everything except for Transmute Crystals (even though I didn't want the mount).

I also made sure to only have 2.500 Transmutes and banked the rest, and what happened? Auto-claimer claimed all Transmutes for me, going to almost the cap 2975. This, to me, is also bad - would I have lost all those transmutes if I was above 2.500? Idk for sure, but definitely would like to have more autonomy over this stuff. Now I have another 475 Transmutes to manage in my Bank, taking another 20 slots. PLEASE remove the cap if you are going to give us all these Transmutes! What's the point otherwise...

What they really need to do is make it possible to opt out of the auto claimer, and when opting out you have to agree three times that you understand that by opting out, if you accidentally miss a reward you forget to claim at the end of a season for any reason that’s on you, and the item(s) cannot be given to you by customer service.

We shouldn't "miss" any item. During Season 2 I should be able to spend my Tome Points on Season 1 items, right? At least that's how I got it when they said "if you purchase Premium version you can progress it at any time at your own speed, it's permanent". - Then why have an auto-claimer?

i thought the whole autoclaimer thing was going to be an issue when they announced it, its just terrible policy lol

its already bad enough we have to get our excess pts converted to a useless currency like gold, but being forced to buy stuff you dont want doesnt really help make the tomes look any better

Yeah it's opposite in what the claimer, well, claims.

    - First it goes through everything it can buy.
    - Next, it sets aside up to 2k Points.
    - After that, if you have more than 2k Points, all of those "extra" Points get converted to Gold.

It does baffle me that the claimer applies even to people who got Premium or Premium+. You'd think buying one of the upgraded Tomes would disable the claimer for that Tome, seeing as a person always has access to those rewards and thus has no risk of losing them.

    It's XP, guys.

It's not a currency to be hoarded or traded. It's XP. That's literally all it is. They simply gave it a different name for more fantasy flavor. Same for levels being called pages.

If you have any leftover points at the end, it's because you reached level 30, and the maximum level was 10.

You're getting that mount, those transmute crystals, and that stack of potions for the same reason you get Piercing Javelin at level 4 Aedric Spear, and you unlock dungeons at character level 10, and you unlock the Corporal Green dye at PVP level 6, even if you don't plan on ever using them.

Because when you reach a level in an RPG, you get a reward.

Congratulations, you got the levels required for a reward.

Here is my feedback. All of this could have been avoided if they just let unspent tome points carry over to the next season regardless of the amount. Baring that only automatic claim on free track.

Premium and premium+ can just re earn tome points and get what we want.

I would expect to keep 2000 Tome Points after any autoclaiming, based on what the article stated.

That said, last Season I had many extra Tome points and was able to stop completing the challenges long before the end of the Season.

If there wasn't an auto claim, all we would be hearing is, "But I didn't get my rewards!"😭 I got everything and got nearly 300k gold back. This is a nice feature. There are people who will receive unclaimed rewards in my Guilds because they didn't even realize the season was ending. And the casual players didn't have to worry about losing anything by knowing they wouldn't be on at the end.

That's why we're saying the claimer needs to be opt-in. Everyone knows it's for people who either forget to claim things, or don't have the ability to due to whatever reason. But what's the point of letting us freely choose what we want to buy vs what we don't if the game is going to just shove it all into our Collections regardless? And losing Transmutes thanks to them not being sent in a Geode, too, if someone is at cap for them.

It's confusing they didn't develop Tomes with the ability to opt-out from the start. Have it be set to opt-in by default and people who don't want to use it can choose that option. But give us the option since we're already given the choice to just not take X or Y.

I specifically did NOT pre-purchase any transmutes as I was at or near currency cap. I was dismayed to see that the autoclaimer purchased a skill style and five (5) transmutes items which put me at 3,000 transmutes. I took a screenshot of the Season Zero autoclaimer recap and opened a support ticket. Logically, the autoclaimer should have stopped buying transmutes if the next purchase would exceed the currency cap.

Yes, you would have. I didn't think it would auto-claim transmutes since I don't consider them a currency since they have a hard cap and typically come in containers like geodes. I lost the transmutes when the auto-claimer grabbed them for me.

Yes and we complained then too.

While I feel a tinge of guilt being critical at this time, it's a recurring theme that systems are designed and the players give feedback almost immediately, only for little to nothing to change and it moves ahead.

Then the system does what everyone thought to begin with, and we are still unhappy so saying it again.

I'm sure they have more to worry about right now than this issue, but it is such that I'd probably not buy a premium pass again if I only really wanted one or two things like I did for Season 0 if it meant I'll also have a bunch of stuff claimed I don't want.

I'm not sure anyone was sure that they'd auto-claim capped currencies leaving people with nothing but lost points either, and that's worth pointing out. The designers should have been able to predict this result, however.

I "lost" 300 Transmute Crystals cause of autoclaimer :( I had Premium Version of previous tome and wanted to keep transmute crystals in there for future use when necessary. Yes, I am sure all of that is true. But it has been a recurring source of frustration for the customer base, especially if you visit PTR forums. Things are probably even worse for them now, unless you believe corporate speak that firing everyone results in less red tape because there is no one left to approve anything.

So they were given the feedback pretty early, before they decided to do a whole auto-claim solution. Their article implied they were more focused on engagement, and then chose to do that over our suggestions. It doesn't feel like an issue of workload, but more of decision making. The whole thing overcomplicates what should otherwise be a fun system. It's just unfortunate that engagement takes priority over player choice here.

I think it's moreso that player protection was taking priority. They didn't want anyone to miss out on the collectibles that they had purchased and earned.

    ETA

Someone missing out on some coin can easily earn more coin just playing the game at anytime. Someone missing out on a collectible can not get that collectible again by any means for a long time, if it ever even returns. It took 7 years for the Dragon Treasure to return, for example. The collectibles also don't take up a bunch of inventory space. So there are no gameplay issues caused by having unused collectibles, although it can be annoying to sift through long lists.

I get why players want the ability to opt out of auto claim. But I also understand why devs made the decision they did and I don't think it's just engagement. They erred on the side of protecting players.

    Here's what I'm referring to:
In development, we discussed other ways to strike this balance of wide paths for progression and encouraging future Season play, such as implementing a hard cap on Tome Points that you can carry at any given time, but we believed that would feel considerably worse. We were already removing this for Event Tickets (now Trade Bars!) and thought it would reduce the fun of picking out the rewards you like most on a Tome.
