Writhing Wall Event: What do you like about it?

First: there are already a ton of threads complaining about what players don't like about the writhing wall event. This is a thread about what you like about it. If you don't like anything about it, don't post here. Express your opinion in the other 500 complaint threads. I've already done that, so I'm sticking to what I do like.

I'm glad to see ZOS trying something new. It's their first crack at it, and I'm hoping they're gathering feedback that will influence events like this going forward.

What I like:

1. Getting the golden boxes is pretty easy, so it doesn't take a huge chunk of my time. I've been able to participate in the event and get my three golden boxes a day without it impacting the regular activities I like to do in-game.

2. Maybe I'm easy to please, but when I logged in one morning and saw that PC/NA had hit 100% and moved to phase 2, I rushed over to Solstice to see what the Meridian Lens looked like activated and thought it was cool. I really like that something changed in the world, and that a new quest popped up.

3. I was really happy to see that there was something for crafters to do, especially since it was one way to get a golden box. Most events are mainly about combat (yes, I know not all of them are). This one has combat too, but at least there's a non-combat way to get a box. I'd like to see ZOS do more of this in future events, i.e. come up with ways for players to earn boxes and/or tickets that don't involve combat.

4. I like the siege camps. I didn't think I would, but I do 1-2 every day and enjoy working together with other players to defend the camp and take down the big baddie(s) at the end.

5. I was actually impressed with the Stirk basecamp. It's missing a merchant, which has already been pointed out, but other than that, it's about the right size and great to see so many players rushing here and there.

6. I like the Writhing Wall section in the activities section of the menu. It lets me see at a glance where the server is in terms of progress, and what achievements I still need.

That's it for me for the first two phases of the event. I'm looking forward to see what the third phase brings.

I like that it's reasonably good Exp for something that isn't explicitly an Exp grind. I took the opportunity to level up some less used subclassing skill lines while farming rewards.

Honestly the concepts seem good on paper, it just seems like it needed maybe 3-4x more development time.

    I, too, liked the crafting.

I, too, liked that defending the siege camps were at least worth my time in exp. Almost all my characters are below 50, so it gave me a chance to try out some different builds for non-solo play while at least leveling a little.

I would have liked the phase 1 fetch quests a whole lot better if they'd worked right, and if there'd been... oh, 2x, 3x as many enemy types to go after. Would have outright LOVED them if they included more than just the base game areas, which I know is asking too much and not part of the plan for this event, but that would have made the difference for me between "grind" and "exploration." I did enjoy the first time I did each of the items after I figured out how to bypass the drop bug.

I love the Meridian Lens Apparatus! I mounted the disc on my wall and it looks great. The downside is that the base of the Apparatus is a bit finicky to hide, but disc/lens part looks nice. A lot nicer than the Meridian Lens, which looks a bit dull in comparison.

I loved the fact that although I hadn't forked out for the Season Pass, I could still participate and get the mount, two pets and the style pages. I haven't got any of the motifs, but they seem to be quite reasonably priced at guild traders.

I like the fantasy of being at war in this fantasy setting. It feels different from fighting in Cyrodiil — instead, we're supporting a war effort from behind the front lines.

And I think it's really cool how our contributions actually matter to progressing the event! Even though the numbers were adjusted, I like the idea of a server-wide event that players can contribute to. Rather than rushing through the story, we actually get a feel for the time that would realistically pass during such a war. The story feels more meaningful because of the real-world time investment.

Roleplay fantasy aside, I like that the daily quests aren't too tedious. You can get the crafting quests done quickly, and the quests to defend siege camps and recharge the lens can be done simultaneously. There are some good rewards for participating, too.

Must concur. The XP is solid. Coupled with the double XP from the Witches Festival, it was especially nice and a solid positive side to having two events at once.

I like that there are four different types of daily quests, because it means we can choose to do only certain ones if we aren't particularly interested in the others. It's also nice that some types of daily quests seem ideally suited to beginning players-- such as the crafting quests or the harvesting quests-- while others seem to be geared more toward established players who can handle more challenging content-- in particular, the camp incursion quests. I know some players feel like the incursions aren't challenging enough, but in my experience they are not nearly as quick and easy to do when there are only a few players trying to stop an incursion, which is often the case during a given server's low-population hours.

I like that each type of daily quest has a limit of 6 quests per day per character. That might seem like a drawback inasmuch as it means the blue coffers can't be endlessly farmed the way some event coffers can be, but 24 coffers per day per character seems like a nice hefty number. Basically, once a player has farmed however many event coffers they're interested in, they're free to go engage in whatever regular activities they enjoy engaging in.

Personally, I'm enjoying the camp incursions, and sometimes I'm doing two or more incursions in a row before turning in the quest and grabbing another one (if I didn't collect enough vitrified souls during the first incursion and need to collect more). I'm not finding them to be too grindy, although I realize that other players might not share my opinion of them.

    1. XP for crafting dailies was good (used for leveling up skills on my alts).
    2. The email from Skordo I got when I was at work (made me smile).
    4. Web page about the event, the one with progresion and the explanation article were both very good.
    5. Golden pursuit and twitch rewards.
    6. Delves and public dungeons beeing haunted by worm cult is something with potential for future. I liked those harder bosses and new enemies, however it shouldnt disalow players to complete those instances during event.
    7. Giving a house as a reward from coffers (already had that one, but cool concept in general).
    8. Kevin trying to help us with all the other mess

I hope the best part will be the Worm Cult fortess in phase 3, we will see.

So far, I have not liked much of anything about it, just waiting to get access to the other half of the zone that I paid for. The event has just been busy work, repetitive and boring.

There's token participation for people who don't have the content pass, so people who can't buy it for whatever reason don't miss out completely.

Also ZOS have said the story is written in such a way that it's not completely broken if you want to play it later, although it remains to be seen what that actually means. (I hope it means it will work narratively and not just that the quests won't stall, but we won't know until later.)

I enjoyed talking to the new npc quest-givers the first day, because they all had interesting dialogue that helped make the war effort feel like a major undertaking.

I appreciated the crafting quests being a quick way for everyone to contribute.

I really liked the new story quests we got, particularly the one with Darien.

I like the idea of the camps getting more built up as the event continues (just wish the visuals were more consistent; I still haven't seen the Meridian Lens fully built and firing, and its appearance went back and forth a lot).

I am glad ZOS tried something different, and hope they continue to try new things.

Probably more interesting than levelling at the usual dolmens, and a chance at better rewards.

I never thought about it that way. I'll admit that I was a bit peeved at being kept out of Eastern Solstice until the event is over, but then I reframed it as "the release date for Eastern Solstice is sometime toward the end of November" and stopped caring about it. I like your framing, too.

Absolutely. Once the community figured out that two of the quest givers are linked, so you only get one golden box between them, I stopped doing the one that asks for furs and sap, etc.

I haven't really participated in the delve/public dungeon invasion part all that much, but I can see that it has potential. However, I agree that preventing players from normal questing for a month isn't good. Maybe they could invade parts of the zone, instead. Sort of like the wandering bosses in the Deadlands, but on a much larger scale with minions with them. As if a dragon were to land in the middle of a zone.

I was fortunate enough to get the house, which was surprising because normally ESO RNG doesn't swing in my favour.

    Kevin is always a positive!

You know what, I only did the Stirk dailies so far but reading through this thread has encouraged me to go to Solstice and check out the activities there. 1. The Stirk Motif. When images of that first came out, I was geeked. The medium armor style was the perfect fit for my elven characters.
    2. Ease of doing the dailies. The crafting dailies in particular were easy to knock out, especially with the crafting stations right there. With these overlapping the Halloween event's XP bonuses, I was able to use that XP for some alts.
    3. The worm cult invaders throughout Tamriel.
    4. Got the Coldharbour house!

That's all I can think of. My golden pursuit's done, so I'm pretty much done with the event dailies at this point. I should do the story, forgot to do that.

The Meridian Lense looks nice, and the camp is sufficiently large and populated. As usual, the environment team did a good job. A few more visible changes with progress would've been appreciated.

I like the general idea of the quest. Unfortunately, the execution falls flat and doesn't come even close to making something meaningful and (positively) memorable out of the promising setup.
    Also, I don't think it's a good idea that it's a one-time event. A decent quest line would've been much better.

The siege camp defences would've been fine if not for the abysmal loot. More often than not, not a single one of the mobs drops anything, and I've been able to loot the main boss like two or three times over the course of the entire event so far.
