I haven't noticed any gold spammers as I have the Spam Filter addon from Curse.com, which automatically adds them to ignore the second it appears, but with the 5 guilds I'm in the chat doesn't really concern me all that much.

Of course it will be different if I start to receive the gold spammer ingame mails.

Just give it time guys! The sooner people stop getting their accounts hacked, the sooner the spam will stop.

just an fyi on the dungeon botters....they have gms log in every 5 hours and go into the dungeons and ban them. ive seen the GMs appear in an ethereal form and just start making them dissappear.. so DONT think they ARNT working on it...cause they ARE. main problem is the chat spammers. they need a GM on every day at all hours to keep an eye on chat.

I noticed a lot of room on my Ignored List today. I added a bunch of new goldfarmer spammers to it. This makes me believe that all the clutter that has been previously clogging up my list has been expunged.

All I can say about the gold spam in zone these days is those guys have two serious problems, first it's clear they can't read English because if they could they would totally see that what they are posting is completely illegible.

That leads me to the second problem, I doubt most of their message is getting across to potential new customers as most people aren't likely to want to even try deciphering them. Old customers already know where they are so there's little reason to spam them, so obviously it's aimed at new customers and their message is seriously distorted.

What I do like is it clearly shows that ZOS has been improving their anti-spam filters. That they have to change their messages every couple days shows that. It's almost amusing to see how desperate they are to get their message out... with things like ||| followed by \/\/ it makes me lol.
Side effects of reading messages on forums can cause nausea, head aches, spontaneous fits of rage, urination due to intense laughter, and sometimes the death of your monitor or other object in throwing range. If you find that you are reading forums more than 24 hours a day, please consult your nearest temporal physicist.

I liked the report spam system in WoW.
See the gold spammer in chat, click on the name 'report spam' and autoignore, and ignore list was really long.
I checked it regularly and noticed some name were disappearing from it, so they must have been banned.
Current report system in ESO seriously lacks in functionality.

I swear, never in my 10 years life as an MMO player have I seen so many and different gold spammers. This is like The Gold Spammers Online. I have 10 gold spammers in my ignore list, which is astonishing considering these are actually 10 accounts as ignores are account wide not just for each character, and the game doesn't have expendable trial accounts that can get banned.
You never played FFXIV on release ;), that was 100 times worse in chat/whisper/mail but Square Enix eventually subdued it to minor nuisance levels mostly.

But as far as botting is concerned this game is a total disaster.

if an issue with chat spam, there is addons that you can use. I do not see it anymore, but it does block players too that spam.
    X4D LibAntiSpam esoui.com/downloads/info211-X4DLibAntiSpam.html

Botting is an issue, I do see GM come and clean house. lately in dungeons I do not see them.

Already getting them myself. At least one a day. They've taken to pretending to be hirelings as well. I got one from an alternate spelling of Pacrooti with the title "Raw Materials".

And the best part - there are only 2 megaservers, so, once it's done, it's done - it's not like this live gm would need to check 30 realms like in WoW.
    - This is a HUGE point, it takes away the alibi every other MMO uses, which is the alleged large number of staff needed to monitor every zone on every server.

Fact is, it should only take one person per server, looking at the chat logs with a rudimentary filtering system, who could ban-on-sight the perfectly obvious spam.

But no, ZOS seem intent to let this happen.

I'm sure the devs client has the ability to monitor ever zone chat at once from one or multiple monitors. If not then I am sure they could create a app or something that looks for key words and reports them to a GM. You are all right that they need to be proactive and start doing something.

They are probably working on a solution but all they can say is "We are working on it", I know its not much but they can't exactly say " We are going to do X,Y and Z" because then the bots would obviously adapt before Zenimax could ban them. At the end of the day, Zenimax is in damage limitation mode and will at this point, never get rid of them. Some great points raised by the community and I hope Zenimax take note. Ive proposed many but the one about limiting the use of zone chat until X level is very good. They could go one further and make it so you have to be level X to join a guild, make a guild, whisper or send mails, this would help combat the spam.

I have 3 alts in different alliances and Stonefalls is the worst for it by far. I downloaded the spamfilter addon as a result but that doesn't seem to work so well.

X4DAntiSpam has an option to turn on the "developer" settings for chat. When a spam message slips by, it shows you what to add for a new filter. It's been working really well for me so far.

My ignore list is already full

@Allumis My addon spambayes for elder scrolls online catches them all without using your ignore list, it is also capable to catch more than gold spam, like vampire/ww bite spam, it just depends what type of message do you train as spam, and ofc you can see the spams in a control center to carefully check there is no false positives, honestly here it has killed all my spams harassement, also capable of filtering colors in colorful messages, and hides friends logged on/off ui messages.

The solution is easy. And for the same reason there is ZERO spammers and bots in the VR zones. Simply make starter island mandatory and make sure you cant progress to the next map without completing the main quest.

    @ShintaiDK
There is, a spam is not limited to Gold spam, can be guild advertising spam, people selling vampire/bites, there is lots of spams to me in higher zones too, it depends what type of message comes frequently and harass yourself...

To me your solution is absurd, in this case I stop playing the game at all, problem solved... Yeah indeed easy, but absurd

There are thousands of shards within the megaserver. There is just no way to have thousands of GMs. They rely on us to report the account. Problem Is that the spammers just start a new account using stolen credit cards.

I think that one way to cut down on it would be to target new accounts from global areas where this thievery is rife. Another is to give scrutiny to accounts signed in for 20+ hours per day.

This whole issue will be a never ending process. I hope that within the next 90 days or so that we can turn the corner however. As a foot soldier in this battle I'll continue to report/ignore mail and chat spam.

I'd like to see a feature that EQ2 has.

    /report name

Either this, or add it to the right click menu like other games do.

What /report does there is it captures the last X lines of chat text in your chat log and sends it along with the offender's name to the GM department. This way there's no hunting down chat logs and time stamps. It's all right there for their glory to see.

    And ban.

    Hard.

Beat dat azz with the ban stick.

right click name, report player, add screenshot with your chat up. do it do it meow:3
