@Jaraal Yeah, to treat your customers with respect and dignity by offering an explanation is just just too much to ask.. I though i'd wait a month or two before reviving this thread. If this keeps up you'll see me in two months again!
Probably not the best idea. Bumping threads is against forum rules, and you may have noticed that they're enforced.

I'd also like to see the costume-changing animation fixed/restored, because as others mentioned, it's little things like this that make the game more immersive and fun.

Is this thread referring to the animation that looked like we were brushing off our clothes as we applied a costume?

And I completely agree it should be fixed. For anyone who's wondering, it's this animation (just after 00:40):

So i have tested this profusely but after the patch there is no more animation for changing to a costume. It's just poof and youre in a costume, it looks so lame.

I can't be the only one noticing this or is there some setting i'm not seeing?

That is awesome news thank the divines!!! I hated having to wait for the animation to see what costume I wanted to use - especially when I forgot what they looked like so I had to go through several. I hope this was a change and not a bug.

@Ragnarok0130 Ah, another "glass half full" response..
Let's remove the door opening animation too since we encounter so many doors and so we can open them faster. And remove the mounting animation too while were at it, let's just intantly get teleported on top of our mounts! /s
    -me
You can very clearly see in the collection menu from the preview pictures what type of outfit/adornment is going to be selected. There is no need for you to cycle through them at lightspeed
    -also me
The costume change seems to take the same amount of seconds it did before, just that it has the illusion of seeming faster without the animation.

It's not a glass half full answer it's an "I've freaking loathed the costume changing animation since 2014 and I'm happy that it's gone" response.

Really? It's a silly animation with no purpose. I'm with @Ragnarok0130.

Each to her own. That silly animation does not provide any immersion at all. You change your entire clothing in public? Now that's "immersive".....

But i don't understand, the animationwas not blocking you from equiping something else. You didn't need to wait for it to finish

So if it's intended to have it removed it's just bad

Well, they also removed the animation for Templar Sun Shield... not sure why, but now there is completely no animation with the skill. It's been reported as a bug but nothing has been done to bring the animation back.

As for the costume animation, I haven't noticed, so I clearly don't miss it. Perhaps they are going through and removing 'clutter' animations to help with overall system performance.

That sucks about the Templar Sun Shield. You should put in ticket and if they don't do anything about it make a separate thread on the forums like this one.

I will just paste what i have already written before:
There has to be a better way to increase performance than removing very minor animations from the game right? Whats next a limit on the amount of emotes i can use per day?? NO THANK YOU!

If that's the case, it makes you wonder why they wouldn't say anything about it. Clearly they know that players would spot the changes and ask questions that they obviously have no intentions of answering.

If this is a bug in my opinion it should stay. Now no need to wait for the animation to end to check the costume properly how it looks on my character.

My theory is that this animation is but one casualty of ESO's stunted growth. Remember that ESO can only be s good as it's weakest links will allow. That would be older gen consoles. Iirc, it was stated by the devs that recent updates and features, I.E. Necrom and The Arcanist Class, required the cannibalization of older assets. Assuming that ESO has in fact reached the point in it's growth where it's straining against these restraints, the loss of costume changing animations and more is going to keep happening until support for older gen consoles is dropped.

I did not notice the animation before, and did not notice it was gone until it got mentioned.
Regardless of my opinion on the animation itself, or its presence, I do not like stealth changes. If this is intended, then it should be on the patch notes.

    stealth changes

This is exactly what it is. It is a sneaky/scummy change to something that i have paid for.

You know what other game is infamous for stealth changes? Battlefield 2042. Please don't encourage (or not be bothered by) the battlefield 2042-ification of ESO..

Custom harvesting actions keep disappearing, base game player actions keep being removed, Skill animations are going missing each patch. And we have a new "customized Skill actions" feature coming out...

ZOS doesn't have the greatest track record with preserving animation integrity. I can't wait to see Scribing Skills activated and the character just stand there

You guys really don't understand how badass it was to walk into town and use the quickslot wheel to change into your costume (while still walking). Since the animation is removed there is no way for me to show it...

All these issues were reported at the end of last year. So there is still hope that this will get fixed during the "quality of life + bug fixes" that were in the roadmap for 2024.

    fingers crossed :#

It would be nice if they gave us a toggle to show animations or not show animations, as some of us are just not fans of this kind of thing.

    10000% agree.

I would love if customized actions were client side only. Though, I'm pretty sure they won't be.

All of the changes in 2042 are put out in the patch notes because the community scours them just like in ESO. I would know I’ve been a forum moderator for the Official Battlefield forums since 2012 and game with several of the devs and CMs on a regular basis. If there’s ever a “stealth change” it’s unintentional and it’s usually addressed quickly when the community points it out in the forums or on social media. There’s lots to criticize 2042 for but stealth changes isn’t one of them.

Regarding the ESO outfit changing animation going away I suspect it was unintentional and not a “stealth change” but as stated earlier I’ve loathed this animation for 10 years and am happy that it’s gone and hope it doesn’t return. I don’t like being locked into that animation when I leave the costume menu and return to the game world to see my character tying up whatever they are instead of just rolling out - it’s the same reason I hate 2042 forcing the reload animation that you’re locked into upon first spawning which has gotten me killed in game. Of note that outfit changing animation only occurs when putting on a costume but there’s no animation when changing into your preset created character outfits from the outfit station. I’d think you’d be more concerned with the lack of consistency between those two outfit changes breaking your immersion than losing an animation that has you tying something up on outfits that don’t normally have strings on the sleeve which is itself immersion breaking.
