Are these hints of spell crafting incoming?

why get excited about something like spell crafting when everyone would still need to use the same version of the spell to be effective ?

because not everyone cares about effectiveness of skills.
because it would still be awesome to have new skills even if other people use the same skills.

    new stuff is exciting

There is always going to be a “meta” version of things but you really don’t need to follow meta to have fun and complete content.

The amount of disappointment from the playerbase when Zos announced a new class instead of Spellcrafting last year was pretty sharp. It was an instant "we were hoping for this" outcry from a good majority of people, before it shifted to hype for a new class. Players had been speculating for months what it could be, all the hype behind this NEW THING, that many players were convinced it couldn't be a new class and had to be something more, so many thought spellcrafting and were hyped. I wouldn't be surprised if it was spellcrafting, or something built from the corpse of what was once spellcrafting. I hope something actually useful, and not a bunch of out of combat benefits.

Even if it were or mostly or just cosmetic changes we could make to our abilities it would be a huge boon. Being able to, for example, having a falcon/owl/raven instead of cliff racer for wardens or replacing a sorcerer's lightning spells with fire ones would be a huge boon for RPers.

I honestly can't understand why someone would feel this way.

btw, Skingrad also has the Chapel of Julianos, so I guess a Mage-centered chapter/system isn't too out of place.

I mean, I’m concerned spellcrafting would be a really bad move (nightmare to balance, continue to make all classes the same), but no one can really make any judgements until we see how it works. It could be anything from changing spell colors to new class skill lines to roleplay skills to a new skill line but with extra steps…

I would keep in mind that getting "spellcrafting" content could also be a spellcrafter-themed skill line or skill augments, and not at all a detailed system for customizing spells.

Many of us just want more content and other than new classes we haven't had much in the way of new spells and skills to play with on existing characters that we main or play most. It also opens up a new line of customisation. With fashion being endgame for many the ability to customise the appearance of skills only adds to the depth of that aspect of the game further.

Me either, but if that's what it is this year, fine *shrug* I don't have any interest in something like that. I didn't use it in the older three single player titles - I've never been much on magic use in TES.

I would suggest going to YouTube and typing ESO Quakecon Spellcrafting. It was exciting.

For me it’s about the variety it could bring, if it’s like the 2015 version. You could run into 3 others players in the game and all 4 of you have different versions of the same base spell. Maybe you chose the AoE version but I went with the DoT version and someone else went with the Ultimate version but the other guy chose Defensive. It just opens with up.

I am a little wary of it, due to the disruption it would cause. It would have been cool if it were in the game from launch, though.

While I completely understand that people wish for something new/ new content (I do too), I share the opinion of @Tandor and others - I am afraid that this kind of customisation will bring even more flashy, glowing, noisy stuff into Tamriel. For my taste there is already now much too much of flashy stuff.

I was pleasantly surprised by Arcanist, NGL. It ended up way better than my initial opinion when it was announced and showcased. First time that happened in a while, though it's not hard to beat such a low bar, it ended up being very good imo.

But for the most part I do agree, it seems to be the norm lately.

That is a risk we have to take. I still hope they'll eventually cave in and let us hide/disable much of the visual noise...

I was being facetious with my response, but that is a great point. Hopefully this new feature doesn't become mandatory in every single build that can use it.

The moment players get their hands on spells they can mix-match the effect we will have 2 scenarios

1.Its absolutely underwhelming save for a few choices

2.Its a broken mess the dev will never be able to balance without patching it to become case 1

I mean lets be realistic, they won't add an entire skill line unless they tie a guild to it like the College of Winterhold. So if any 'spells' will be craftable they will be in the form of a scroll to quick slot and be on cool down between uses. That makes the most sense.

Bear in mind though that a spell crafting system may not be a part of the actual chapter, but may be coming in Q4 as the major system and therefore include the College of Winterhold as a guild. They could still announce it in the livestream like they did with IA last year.

I just hope if SC is what we do get that it's existing-class-independent. Totally. Completely.
So any class or race could invest equally in the system.
          Not a NEW class.
Not something specific to sorcs, or wardens, or some classes get boosts, buffs or benefits that others don't.

Just make it something equally useful no matter what class or role or race your character is.

I know, it seems like it would be a no-brainer that they would make it equally accessible, but I've seen some other things take shape over the years that did me a big befuddle at the way something was changed\implemented sooooo.

          Fingers crossed.

Last year's reveal emote had nothing to do with the update, so it's probably just to generate misdirected hype.

Knowing them, by "craft" they might mean changing the color of an existing spell like in the picture so don't get your hopes up for real skill/spell crafting just yet. I mean if it is called Scribing like someone claimed, that's not really crafting and makes it sound like you are copying something.

If it is real, actual spellcrafting in some form then I will have to take back some things I've said in the past.
