Are these hints of spell crafting incoming?

1 - In this current Chapter, there's an NPC (don't remember the name) that mentions Winterhold, like if we're going to visit it soon, same as last time Telvanni Penninsula was hinted by an NPC too.

2 - This emote they will gift during Global Reveal (in some way, looks like spell crafting).
varusgr81qi5.jpg

3 - At the end of the article, the text literally say we're "crafting"..., and they immediately use the word "spe"cial, very similar to "crafting spe"lls.

Maybe I'm dreaming, but they look like hints to me. ;)

I'd hope so... I've wanted spell crafting ever since it was it was first shown years ago. While I doubt we'll get the system showcased back then, it would still be breath of fresh air that ESO desperately needs.

As Kendaric said - the basic system for spellcrafting has existed since early in ESO's lifetime. They demoed it once upon a time but it got canned.

It worked a little like enchantment, where you combined drops to make a spell, and there were qualities of spells.

I don't know whether we're actually likely to see it in the game, though, as it feels like it might be a nightmare to balance.

I’ve heard they further chopped up the system and we’re getting something different, but similar for our Chapter feature.

Don’t be surprised when it releases with zero combat effect whatsoever.

They're also using "we're" which looks like "were-" as in "werecreature". Also, "watching" sounds almost like "watchling", and "liveSTREAM" has "stream" as in "water". What comes to mind when we think of water? Oceans - islands! Solstheim! It's clear, people: This year's chapter will be about were watchlings invading Solstheim.

      :p

I think that's a bit far off. The "crafting" part alone is suspicious, though. They sneaked in hints just the say way during the previous chapter announcements.

Haha! I know I may have gone too far analizing that, but yes, the word "crafting" got me thinking, also if paired with the emote image above it.

Most of the stuff here is pretty good, but I have to agree with Syldras; I think "spe"cial = "spell" is stretching things a bit far. :D

But the emote is a good point. It does look vaguely spell crafty, doesn't it?

I just hope that whatever it is its fleshed out and not like a lot of things in ESO where it has the bare minimum of said feature just to say it has it.
So if it is Spell crafting, please let it be actually decent and not just craft 5 spells that's essentially just a new skill line disguised as "spell crafting"

It seems like a pretty hefty if not on the nose hint towards spell crafting given the image of the emote used along with the wording in the article. Pyromancer being a fire mage typically also implies a subclass type deal with this new feature with perhaps the player being able to specialise or tune their character to a more refined archetype with either existing spells or crafted ones. If this emote is related to what they have in store for us (which I believe it is).
Which is a really pleasant surprise.

If it is in fact not spell crafting at all then that would be an absolute punch in the gut to the player base given how many have requested the feature since early in the games life cycle and the seemingly obvious subtext being communicated here. It would come across as ZoS just mocking us haha

I think a system like spell crafting, that gets added to year on year potentially as a base game feature would be a massive boon to the health of the game if done correctly, and given how long we've had to wait for it to arrive I am cautiously optimistic. Let us hope the immediate assumptions by the community are correct and we get a new system that greatly broadens our characters' abilities in combat and potentially other areas of the game.

Right, so you could make the connection that the user is attempting to craft a spell for the first time and struggling.

      Last year was “Ritual Casting.”

Which one could reach and say that the emote alluded to a magic-based class.

I mean, I'd be fine with spellcrafting. I just hope no one will be disappointed in case the only thing we'll get will be buyable recolors of existing spells in the crown store ;)

What was last year's free reveal stream emote, btw? I can remember people were also assuming spellcrafting because of that thing.

usually the global reveal livestream gift is themed.
      - Barnacle-Back Coral Crab for high isle in 2022
      - Viridescent dragon frog for blackwoodin 2021, i guess it fits because there's frogs in blackwood but not sure about that one.
      - Long-Winged Bat pet for greymoor in 2020, vampire chapter.

Maybe this spellcrafting will be something different than they wanted to do before.
More like spell customization/changing spells visiuals. We have three colours of the same emote that might be a hint. Maybe we will be able to change our skills visuals/colours. We all remember the drama about NB permaglow, as fashion is the true endgame. And also ZOS is recently adding more customization to new areas of the game like harvesting/using portals. This could be another step in this direction. And would allow them to sell some of spell customizations via crown store (with other customizations earned by playing the game).
      That is just my guess.

I hope it is spell crafting so I can finally equip my nightblade with polar wind, green dragon blood, corrosive armor; and maybe throw in some cephaliarch’s flail for extra spice with sanctum of the abyssal sea on the backbar.

Customisation of existing spells would be a cool feature but I think as a 10th Anniversary feature it wouldn't go quite far enough. Step in the right direction though. We need more spells and weapon types to play with in the long run. It will certainly draw a lot of players both new and old if it is as extensive as crafting your own spells to suit your character/favoured gameplay style.

I'm fine with whatever they come up with provided it isn't replacing the existing muted spell animations with the bright, flashy OTT animations they gave arcanists (not to mention some of the mounts). I really don't want ESO turned into just another flashy visuals show.

I wholeheartedly agree with that. ESO's light show is bad enough already and we still have no option to tone it down.

Perhaps we will craft something to add in a new weapon slot... like they did with poisons. We can craft something that adds to our spells, or alters their function, etc.

EDIT: Perhaps even one that allows us to return altered skill animations to their previous state (eg. jabs!) Wishful thinking I know. ;)

But you don't have engage with the system at all unless you want to. Like the normal crafting skills, it will be another option for those who want that. It most likely won't have any effect on you if you choose to ignore it.
