I Miss Drinking Breda's Bottomless Mug

TY ZOS, for removing the requirements of actually participating in the event to actually get the only thing out of it that I wanted, the XP boost. I hope they do this for all the events, I always hated having to get the ingredients for the cake, when all I wanted was the XP boost.

I do believe, as others stated, that they did this to conserve server resources. I just find it amazing that people complain about game performance, and then decry this solution because apparently drinking from a mug is more important than game performance overall.

Just type /drink, problem solved. Or use the Betnikh spiked ale, it has a funnier animation.

I mostly just wanted to verify that the XP buff was actually working. Not having to drink from the mug every 2 hours is a nice perk, no question. They could implement an event daily reward box for drinking the mug instead for those who still want to "experience the magic" as it were. They really should have a way to check if an event has double xp active though.

It was nice to also use the mug and similar items at the end of the event so you had the buff for a bit longer

This is probably why they made the change. Because players were drinking the mug on all their characters right before the event ended so they would continue to have the buff beyond the event. The way it is now, when the event ends so does the buff.

Yeah, but I have to ask the big question... "so what?" It's not like the buff lasts for more than a couple hours. Not seeing where this is actually a problem. I think a more likely reason would simply be that people forget to renew it, or don't notice when it goes away.
Agree, the extra 2 hour a character was fun but has little impact, with 18 characters you can extend the buff one and a half day but people with 18 characters probably has more cp than they can use.
On the other hand its easy to forget the buff more so for new or casual players

Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I have seen no mention from the dev team that this was the reason, or one of the reasons, for the change.

All I have seen is some fellow players in the forum, who for some reason disliked the ability to 'bank' the bonus, citing the change as validation for the 'righteousness' of their particular take on the subject.

However none of them bothered to provide a source or articulate why this was detrimental, only that it was and that they were pleased that the devs had done the right thing and finally put a stop to it.

If I were to make an educated guess I'd venture that, given the - as far as I could find - complete lack of feedback on the subject, this was just a casualty of the change that they didn't much care about either way.

I am happy with the change.

I can still use the memento to celebrate where and whenever I want to.
Not having it expire and not noticing it while doing half the quests is a relief.
Especially when leveling the alts I havent bothered to level in forever

Gotta love how most of it boils down to "Can't stack the extra 2 hours when the event ends".

They fixed an exploit, made a QOL change and didn't remove the mug so people could keep on drinking it.

For me, it was an anti-QoL as it removed part of the event. Drinking to get the XP bonus was a reason to do the drink, just like getting event tickets is the reason for doing the quests. Sure, I can trigger a memento all day long, but the charm was that it actually did something more than just stop me while the character ran an animation.

They can fix exploits in other ways.

How is it “anti-QoL”? Quality of life changes = convenience changes. It is far more convenient to not have to keep an eye on a buff timer. You could call it immersion-breaking if you like, but it absolutely is a pro-QoL change.

Quality of Life is not equal to convenience. A convenience can be a quality of life, and quality of life can be convenience, but they are not always equal.

Wow this is lame. That memento was by far the most fun aspect of this festival and that in itself is saying alot about this festival. It was much better than the long, cheesy and boring dailies that had to be done over and over for a bunch of trash items and just a few of the cool ones. Drinking the memento was like cheering alot which is what you're supposed to do in a "celebration" anyways. Not to mention the nerf to the alt buffs that have already been covered.

I rly don't count how many times I just forgot use that thing when I was doing rnds and other things for XP.
But I am rly glad that they change it to event permament buff.
On other hand... Saved buff after event on alts was nice bonus. I have 12 alts and some still have some old saved buffs :D

Same, it was a fun party of the holiday celebrations, also with the witch cauldron. And I liked keeping the double xp on lesser used characters for a while. The mayhem thing will be the worst hit of all, I loved keeping the double AP on a bunch of toons for a while, it's hard to get 15+ tier 1s solo as a busy trial and dungeon doer with health issues. Wish they'd revert the automatically applied thing, I did perfectly fine remembering 2 years ago as a new player, if you forget you forget.

Yes, why even have the tool at all any more.

You are right. I placed all those Event tools, in my quickslot menu long ago. Useless. What we do now LOL?

You know, as silly as it is, I just realized that not having to drink the mug made me forget that I was getting an XP bonus at all during this event and I wasted a chance to easily finish leveling my arcanist (yes, I'm behind).

Oh well. But another reason for me personally to dislike the change. :p

Exactly. People are reacting as if being a bit late refreshing an XP boost was a game-breaker, and allowing a character to have it over-run the event was a wicked exploit.

As it happens, there have been events in the past which I wanted to do on a low-level alt for the achievements (back in the day when they were character-based) and for the exploration needed for the dailies, which picked up wayshrines and skyshards etc, but when I really didn't want the XP buff because at low level they were levelling fast enough anyway. Now they're stuck with the XP boost regardless.

i dont have any lowbie toons, and over cp2500 so the xp boost was not noticeable for me lol

but when i do grind xp on a lowbie i prefer running in IC, which you cant use mementos/tools in there which means every 2 hours i would have to dip out of IC to get the buff then queue back into IC

it was a nuisance and so glad its just auto applied

A bit related, we can reapply food buffs at any time like before last boss in dungeon.
We can not do with XP or AP potions even crafted ones, you have to wait for the previous to time out. So remember the AP one who expire 10 seconds after you breached the wall on last emperor keep 😾
