I Miss Drinking Breda's Bottomless Mug

I wish ESO would revert back to making you drink Breda's Mug every 2 hours for Double XP. I enjoyed it and did not find it annoying at all. Just one thing imo that should have been left alone. I feel more than Halloween. Breda's Mug is a fun celebration! even Recalling to her in Eastmarch to drink out of the Keg was a blast! I know i can still drink the mug using the Memento but it's not the same lol. Have a Happy New Year everyone! Cheers! (Clasping Breda's Mug lol)

I agree. It removed part of the celebration. What we got instead was no indication that there is even an XP buff. When they fix that, it will just be some icon somewhere that magically appears. Yay.

Just for fun, you can use Breda’s Mug as often as you want. I like the new change because that way I don’t have to remember to use it when the buff expires.

It’s throughout the event — how is that worse?
The mug and crow whistle should be made into mementos; it doesn’t make sense to leave them classified as tools — probably the cakes too.

It removes a necessary part of the interaction with the event. Something that we get to do that helps bring the event to life that has more meaning that standing around performing some emote.

It's worse because I used to make sure all my baby alts had used the XP boost items in every event where they were available - so that when I got ready to level someone, a could have that XP buff, then burn a 150% XP scroll and bat out quite a few levels before the boosts ran out.

Can't do that any more.... *sigh*

Yes that was Cool as well! I wish they would stop diminishing these events. The Mug more so than even the XP was part of the celebration. Taking that fun away does diminish the New Life Festival some and i hope they reconsider or even apply a new fun buff to the Mug. Somethings are better left untouched.

The change was probably for performance reasons since many players would have the buff stored on multiple characters well past the event's conclusion.

@Elsonso does make a good point about event interaction though. Sure it is minor, but the game world has started to get this weird feeling in the last few years of being more and more disconnected from our characters and less community interaction.

I do not buy the performance reasons stuff. We have been drinking the Mug for Years. It was tons of fun. Even Planning on making sure you get that one last Breda Mug Full before the event ended and planning on how you were going to use your exp Buff was fun. Totally takes away from this Years event.

I remember when Stonetooth Bash was a big point of communal contribution. Players would stand around the place and give away the drink for those who hadn't gotten the recipe yet.

Another big point of community interaction that was lost was the Bergama achievement. Players used to help new players get the goal. Now people barely even spam chat for Dolmens.

i am really happy i don't have to remember to use the tool every two hours.
a lot of days i forgot to use it at all.

it's making the events with a 100% experience boost way more enjoyable.

if you still want to use the mug you can use it whenever you want, it still exists in your collections.

So basically, you're saying the event is only fun because you get a exp boost for free? ESO can throw random free EXP events out all year. There is a few Main Events where getting the EXP Boost was Part of the Fun of the event. I understand what you're saying and don't expect everyone to agree but to understand the New Life Festival is to understand that Drinking out of the Mug is part of the festival. Everyone forgets to drink the Mug from time to time. Once again that is part of the fun! Cheers

this change to events made them more accessible which is good.

the Mug collectible is still there for you to use it didn't get taken away from you.

we just don't have to use the mug to get the experience boost anymore.

I agree with those missing the extra engagement in the event through drinking the mug, but it pales by comparison with not needing to run the event achievements on younger characters because they've already been done on the account.

I would like it if the barrel by Breda still initiated the mead drinking animation, just completely divorced from any buffs.

I can't blame ZOS for only wanting to track one variable (how many seconds left in event) rather than tracking a variable for each and every character in the game. And the inability to use it in PvP zones was a problem. And being wrapped up in dungeon fights and forgetting to retake buff and realizing it dropped off right before a big XP gain was not "event flavor", it was unnecessary aggravation.

But definitely bring back the drinking animation from interacting with the keg by Breda. That was fun and easy.

I run the event on my alts (the ones that need a few levels) because I need the XP and the levels. That's really all that's important to me. I have no problem keeping track of who had done what in game - achievements mean absolutely nothing to me.

I do miss the interaction of using the Mug. And not even having the buff show is lame.

I don't see how having the buff running on characters is any more overhead than having characters with an XP scroll running.
What is the harm in letting people level characters faster if they hold the buff after the end of the event? The game is grindy af anyway.

I agree with you regarding the buff. It's better to keep it up during the event, as everyone is free to drink out of Breda's mug as much and as often as they want to. So in fact nobody looses anything at all.

I don't wanna see the now redundant tools converted into mementos tho, simply because I like to use them regularily and there is enough space for them in quick access for tools, while the quick access for mementos is overloaded all the time.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

Understandable, but how far do you go? Do they extend this to the entire event for those who don't find questing fun? Just award three Event Tickets and a prize box at login, then those people who want to do the quest for whatever reason, can do that.

    Well, why not? :)

A lot of players already feel bored by mindnumbling easy quests to an extent, that they feel locked out of that content.

So I expect anybody in favour of nerfing meaningful content (like for example IA) or trying to impede it at all (like veteran overland) to be consequent and consistent with this ideology also regarding questing.

There is no reason to gatekeep those shiny rewards behind a quest-wall after all, isn't it? ;)

I do wish they would allow the Halloween cauldron to turn you into a skeleton even when the event is over. Especially since they removed the exp buff and made it just a memento. But right now, it’s only a memento that summons a cauldron (and nothing more) because the skeleton portion of it doesn’t work outside of the witches event.

I do like Brenda’s memento too. I’m not sure if we have a standard drinking out of a mug emote besides it, so it’s nice to have.

Breda's Bottomless Mead Mug is still a useful tool/memento for playing the animation and roleplaying. I'd be happy if interacting with the keg next to Breda would once again make your character play that animation, because at least it would be used for roleplay by players you're likely to encounter.

Also, I agree that the Witchmother’s Cauldron should polymorph you into that robed skeleton when interacted with any time of year. It's one of the few skeleton polymorphs that properly reflects your character's race — the standard skeleton polymorph always portrays you with a human/elf skeleton.

Yes, please ZOS, make the Mug usable AND functionable again.

People seem not to mind using it (ditto) so as QoL as you wanted it to be - an appreciated attempt - but a huge gulp from it seems to cheer us up.

Remember when grabbing your event tickets was as easy as drinking the Cauldron for the Halloween event or eating your cake during Anniversary ones?

We have a solution right in front of us. Instead of going back to +100% XP on activation next year, the Mug could be drank from daily to receive your event tickets.

This way people who don’t enjoy running around doing the same unchanged dailies we’ve been doing for years, don’t feel forced, just for the tickets.

I do wish that the tools had some function beyond emotes.

I like it as a QOL change for simple up time. I do think there should be some incentive for the tools beyond simple role play. Maybe a once daily additional 50% boost to EXP or gold during the event.
