Rework Class Sets Into 4-Piece Sets

This suggestion is to rework Class sets (of which we currently only have one per Class) to give their effect at 4 pieces equipped, rather than at 5.

Each Class set is designed around one particular Class skill line, of which we have 3 per Class. We know we will be seeing two more Class sets to cover the other two skill lines in the future, but this means that if we wanted to equip all three, we would need 15 item slots. If the Class sets gave their effect at 4 pieces, then players could equip all three simultaneously, as there are 12 item slots on the active bar.

I think that players should be allowed to equip all three of their Class sets at the same time. It would incentivize players to play all aspects of their Class, and it would encourage players to actually use the sets if they were more likely to fit within their builds.

Currently, you can have 12 item slots active at a time. You have 7 for armor, 3 for jewelry, and 2 for your active weapon. There have been some very interesting equipment arrangements done with this system. For instance, the most common one is to have two 5-piece sets and a 2-piece monster set (or a 1-piece Mythic and 1 piece of a monster set), typically using an arena weapon on the back bar. Sometimes you might use a 3-piece jewelry set like Agility, an arena weapon on the back bar, a Mythic, a 2-piece monster set, a 1-piece bonus like Trainee, and a 5-piece set on the front bar.

The point is that the arrangement of equipment on your build has only gotten more interesting with the introduction of set bonuses which require less than 5 pieces. Mythics, Arena Weapons, Monster Sets, 1-piece bonuses like Trainee or Druid's Braid, and 3-piece Jewelry are all very interesting to work with.

Allowing Class sets to give their bonus at 4 pieces would make builds utilizing them more interesting, it would make Class sets stand out more (and may make them more desirable than some generic proc sets that anyone can use), and it would allow players to play with all three of their Class sets, rather than at most two of them.

they would have to make the class sets less...niche/mediocre (or actually functional in the case of the sorc set) before doing that, unless that would be part of your suggested rebalance to 3 or 4 pc sets

The thing is though I kinda think they're supposed to be niche, for people that really enjoy that one skill-line. And as such I don't know if wearing all of them on one character would really make sense or be very viable.

Skill slots might be a bigger problem than gear slots.

I do support the idea of making 4-piece sets though. And also introducing more 3-piece sets.

I really wish the power level of these class sets matched the dedication to a skill line required. I'd have preferred these sets to overlap skill lines to begin with, but the Templar, Sorcerer, and Nightblade sets in particular require using as many skills as possible from their lines to make the slightest bit of use of them. The worst part is even if you do they're just not worth it.

I'd have loved to see these sets done in so many different ways:
    • Dedication to Skill Line = more power than the typical set
    • 4 piece (or what I'd prefer 3-piece sets!) for more flexibility and breaking the mold on builds
    • Class sets, instead of skill line sets. I think these would have been more interesting if they were instead focused on roles, rather than single skill lines. Are they going to fit a tank set into the Templar's Aedric Spear's skill line or are they just going to tell Templar tanks to take a hike?
Aedric Spear abilities summoning a Nova would have been super cool! Or imagine enough lighting charges summoning a storm atronach!

Even though I don't think there will be much benefit to most classes combining multiple class sets, I still think the OP idea is great because it shakes up buildcraft a little bit and lends to some more interesting other set combinations.

I would love to see 4-piece sets as well as more 3-piece sets, especially in slots other than weapons and jewelry. Some variation in 1-pc set bonuses would be nice too instead of all head and shoulders with only health on other slots.

Allowing Class sets to give their bonus at 4 pieces would make builds utilizing them more interesting, it would make Class sets stand out more (and may make them more desirable than some generic proc sets that anyone can use), and it would allow players to play with all three of their Class sets, rather than at most two of them.

Totally agree, except I think they would do well as a 3 piece set rather then a 4 piece set. The design inherently leans toward niche builds given that they impact 1 skill line for a specific class, so a 3 piece set makes them less intrusive for players to build around. Breaking up the effects into different piece levels also makes the usage much more interesting to players! You could have some builds that just want the 2 piece bonus, while some go all in on the 3 piece bonus.

    For instance:
    New class set
    1 piece: Generic buff
2 piece: Effect equivalent to a new Passive
3 piece: Effect that boosts a Class skill tree

    Example:
    Templar set
1 piece: Adds 129 Magicka Recovery
2 piece: While a Dawn's Wrath ability is active, reduce the cost of all your Class abilities by 3% for each Dawn's Wrath ability slotted
3 piece: When you use a Dawn's Wrath ability, gain Dawn's Aura for 10 seconds. While in Dawn's Aura, you and allies within 10 meters of you reduce the cost of their Class abilities by 10% and gain 2 Ultimate when you cast a Dawn's Wrath ability.

As it is, a 5 piece set is just too much commitment for such a narrow design that's based around a single Skill line in your class.

I think this is a great idea. I especially like the idea of making one of the effects like a passive, and the other effect like a Class skill line proc set. In No-Proc campaigns, I may not be able to use the proc effect, but I'd expect to still be able to use the passive effect, so there would still be value to these Class sets.

I'm not opposed to making these Class sets 3-piece sets, an idea which many in this thread have suggested. The current 5-piece iteration of these Class sets is just very disappointing considering their power level and lack of utility in No-Proc campaigns. These Class sets ought to be balanced to have a power level around that of Monster Sets and Arena Weapons, but with the requirement of slightly more than 2 pieces needing to be equipped.
