300 ping makes blocking and dodging unreliable. What I do client-side is often not reflected server-side, so I often die outside AOE zones. It's just how it goes. That's life in the southern hemisphere and something we have to deal with if we want to play ESO.
I don't know where I was in the archive.
I didn't want to start all over again to retry the boss to figure out the mechanics. I just can't be bothered to do that. Maelstrom Arena is better in that regard.

some of these bosses are just nuts for a solo.
Please do *not* nerf this dungeon!
I went in on my templar (cp 2080) geared with monster Chudan, deadlands demolisher & leeching plate (was torn between crimson/dd & leeching. S&B and Ice Staff I was just too lazy to switch to another monster. Bash build so basically endless resources It was slow but easy. Way too much trash. I did 2 bosses with 0 deaths. It was just so boring and the gear didn't entice me to stay. I may change monster sets and try again. Probably could do on one bar Oaken Soul. I heard the last bosses are more difficult but it takes way too long. Boring but easy. I've soloed most DLC dungeons on normal (all the ones I want gear from).
But yeah you do need a solo type build and decent gear. I think tanks will have no problem at all, just more time invested. I was actually watching Netflix too while in there.
Endless Archive is deeply frustrating. It requires a massive time sink to achieve anything worthwhile and is unbalanced. And progress isn't saved when you want to stop, unlike Vateshran Hollows and Maelstrom Arena that have similar time sinks.
I found that trash mobs and bosses were easy for about half an hour or so, then barely made it through a boss. Then the trash mobs suddenly became difficult but the next 2 bosses were easier than the first easy boss. Then trash mobs were less difficult but was repeatedly one-shot by the next boss and couldn't progress.
Also the 'unknown' puzzles were all over the place. Typically solved one or two in reasonable time then got stuck wandering around areas with no clue for ages before giving up in frustration.
Big thumbs down
I have soloed the one with the switches several times. It is just a question of figuring out the order and being fast. I did notice the order changes each time you go there so no remembering for next time.
The squid one I failed as I didn't realise my skill bar had changed. The colours are too similar to my normal skill bar icons. Hoping to try it again.
The goat was hilarious.
The ghost lights is another I failed and would like to try again now I know what I am doing.
The Switches puzzle was impossible for me on the second configuration. I can get to all the switches in order from nearest to farthest and it still catches me by the time I start sprinting. And since that runs on a three-strike system as well I failed it.

The only time on the ghost lights comes up with 10 second warning. I haven't failed it yet, but didn't know there WAS a timer until part 2 so that could have ended badly. idk why ZOS advertised this as solo possible if it's clearly balanced and intended for two.

If you have the ring of the wild hunt, it becomes really easy to make it through (and you can try the CP for extra movement speed, or a skill for expedition, if you have can).

It sounds to me like there are an awful lot of "ifs".

If you go through it, you get an extra buff for the next stage, which is pretty significant, so imo it should involve some effort and not be blindly easy. Tbh, I was surprised how generous they were with the side portals, both the frequency they appear and how easy more or less they are.

i wish it was more predictable what the difficulty was before going into it, and certain ones like the switch puzzle dont even seem to be possible to do with a single player due to how fast they close up (i had attempted difficulty 3 switch puzzle with 2 players and we were still having problems getting someone through)

I got an achievement for clearing all the difficulties in the switch portal, and I've only run EA as a solo player, so it's doable for sure. For reference, I equipped ring of the wild hunt (and also had concealed weapon for the passive major expedition, as I was on a NB), and I think I only missed it once, from all the times I got that portal. The only one I can't consistently clear is the ghost one, I need to do more optimal routes and be faster to get all the orbs.
Agree, I tried solo simply to test it out and to level Sharp. nDSA is better for that, but two players are more than twice as strong as one.prof-dracko wrote: »I think a lot of players will try it out to see what it's like and never go back to it again. This is not made for solo play like they claim it is. And ZOS knows this. I will not be surprised if, in the next update, it gets nerf. Some of the players I know who tried it said it's a nightmare with the OP mob's one-hit kills.
This. It's clearly intended for 2-players and scaled for that. I mean 2-players get no downsides AND can res each other to prevent any thread loss. The only way they can lose at all is if they both go down. If you have one tank and one dd then that probably isn't happening.

well the side portal difficulty varies a bit
i think each of those stages has 5 levels of difficulty
the ghost stage for example, difficulty 1 only has 1 orb, difficulty 2 has 2 orbs, difficulty 3 has 3 orbs (i havent seen 4 and 5 but i assume they have more orbs)
the goat stage difficulty 1 has 1 slow butcher, difficulty 2 has 1 faster butcher, difficulty 3 has 2 butchers (again havent seen later stages)

If you have to block, dodge, or evade in anyway to not die in basically one hit.... it is still very much a oneshot mechanic. I've seen a random mob enemy in arc 3 hit for over 28k (I have a little over 30k health and decent resistance numbers). Yes; it could have been blocked, dodged, or evaded.... but with everything else going on I took the hit. Which is fine for me, I'm not complaining about that.... but trying to say there are no oneshot mechanics is just inaccurate.
