Who do you think you are?

I don't mind helping people learn the game. Still if you join a instance at lvl 30 and have no clue what you are doing that really just shows that you did not take the time to learn. Asking what skills the boss is using and standing in a red ring for a whole fight are not the same thing and would make me want to ask about what gear and skills you are even using.

I don't see a reason a vet 5 in full vet 5 gear should carry a vet 1. At best full vet 1 gear in to a vet BC its really not fair to the vet 5 who would be carrying the vet 1 and for what gear he cant even use till vet 5. So i do see reasons to kick people but a build and weapon is not really one of them unless you'r a healer with 1 heal spell and people keep dying or a tank that does not even use a taunt. Play how you like but sometimes the way you want to play is not fun for the rest of the group then you get kicked.

Well... aslong as people don't start asking about your "rotation" I'm good really...

Back in WoW they'd always ask what my "healing rotation" was... My reply usualy tended to be "I don't need to use a rotation, my healing depends on your stupidity" :)
The statement "if you put enough monkeys behind enough typewriters... sooner or later one will produce the works of Shakespeare" has sadly been proven utterly wrong by the internet...

This reminds me of those terrible kids who used to try out for the basketball team, and would cry when they got cut because they were awful. Like they should've been let on the team simply because they tried out.

Look, I'm glad you want to play basketball, but we are trying to win games. Come back next year if you are better. In the mean time, work on your game.

The only difference is that I was always willing to work with those terrible kids (when not practicing/playing games) to make them better. You won't find many willing to help you improve your game online.

I wish they just ban those damage add-ons. It's nice to see how much damage I do, but the moment people are going to judge you by how much damage you do in a few seconds, is the moment the add on should be deleted.

Nobody else can see your damage on a meter.

    The API doesn't allow it.

Couldn't they design the API so that you can only see how much damage you are doing, and not how much others are doing? (the answer is yes)

I think how MMO's have become in the last 10 years are words like "Veteran Rank's" or "Veteran Dungeons" it gives people that "This is for ELITE players only, keep up or get out!" Or special icons and stuff to stand out saying "Look at me, im the best"

I guess the days are over when a new area gets released for everyone and not only the elite or veteran players. It's a way to separate users from one another. Your either the best or not.

True. But should they be able to force you to list all your gear, skills etc. just to play in a LFG?

In my experience it's got little to do with gear etc. but how you play that matters, especially in a game like ESO where you have a lot more flexibility in build etc.

If someone continually lets down a group then that's one thing. To 'cherry pick' players is just sad given that most content is not a problem to clear even if a player is still learning or a bit undergeared.

Not even close to being the same. ESO is like being able to use a football while playing basketball or using a football while playing baseball. And also your paying $14.99 a month to play this sport that everyone else has access to. (Meaning ESO gives the ability to use something different, to you know...HAVE FUN)

Yet when you try out for the team only a set amount of players slap your wrist for playing with a football while playing basketball. Told 'That isn't the best way to score point's" and kicked off the team.

The players didn't choose VRs, Zeni did.

Also, they are available to everyone, not just those whom others would consider elitists.

Just because not everyone is capable of clearing the content, that does not mean those who do complete it are elitists or exclusive or superior.

VR is simply endgame content. Not a cool kids club.

Seriously, you're invited. Just play the game. :sunglasses:

I've had nothing but positive experiences in the extremely buggy dungeons. People I didn't know before had me be their tank. I usually solo dual wield so I'm not a very good tank(at least I don't think so), we died a lot, we got through it, no insults were thrown or group members kicked out. You must be grouped with the bad apples.

Only YOU can see your DPS when using an addon such as Recount. Zeni changed the API to that effect right before release.

I can see both sides of the issue. People who are doing the best with what they have shouldn't be penalized. By the same token people who are just occasionally tapping a few keys while watching "Survivor" should be exposed and booted.

It's pretty reasonable to be kicked off a team if you're stubbornly trying to do things the wrong way just because you feel like it.

you can choose to not play with them, most simple way would be to just not show your gear. i for one would not play with a group asking for dps or gear posts without good reason.

see? they can not force you.
    you can decide.

To be honest, the most fun I had in mmorpg's was in non-optimised random pugs... A good whipe now and then can make for some hillarious moments and some good old fashion laughing fits.

LEROOOOOOOOY..... comes to mind as an example :)

People going on about "but my repair cost" ... well, all I can say is that the day ingame gold puts butter on my toast or pays my rent in real life I might actualy start to care :)

Actually the way mmos have developed that's not entirely true. I mentioned enrage timer earlier as an example but even without that let put it in a form.

Basicly to make it simple for everyone to understand lets look at dps. The less time you have to dps or from the other viewpoint the faster a mob, boss or whatever dies the less resources and time you have to heal, tank and less time for mistakes to be made.

Gear is a simple math equation and the better gear you have the more effective you will be. Yes i know everyone is different but when making calc like this and theorycrafting you have to make the assumption everyone is equally skilled, so in shorts yes gear matters as it's just a numbers game.

On a smaller sidenote of course if someone in lesser gear performs better then a counterpart in better gear that just makes the choice easier :)

I suggest a solution for you OP.

Don't PUG, join a decent guild.

By decent, one that only min/maxes the minimum required to defeat the content. That requires both them and you to show a little flexability to help the team. That is not being elite, it is called teamwork.

However, if a person cannot be somewhat flexable (in build, skills, play style) for the team (a group of guildies) to win then you will just die and still not be happy.

I fail to see how that is any different than a set amount of players slapping your wrist for playing with the wrong gear, and telling you that "that isn't the best way to clear content/defeat boss encounters" and kicking you out of group.

I played a couple of the open beta weekends but had only ever tried the sorc class. After the game came out I chose to have one character for each class to experiment a bit. This one time I was playing my Dragonknight, who was supposed to be a tank, and decided to do Fungal Grotto. I'm not a heavy MMO player so I thought I could just keep hitting the baddies and they'd go for me instead of some of my squishier group mates. I was using a 2 handed sword and had never even heard of taunts, but I'd been doing well so far, so what could go wrong?

To cut a long story short, the group basically wiped a few times. People complained that I wasn't a very good tank, I explained that it was my first time actually tanking a dungeon... then one of them told me I should be using one-hand + shield and using other skills. I asked them to wait 5 minutes, put a few skill points (luckily I had some spare) into some new skills, which I slotted, and switched to 1h+shield. Actually, I think one of the group members may have traded me the sword and shield, I don't remember. After that, we managed to do the dungeon, everyone thought it was a pretty cool turn of events, I thanked them all, they thanked me (turns out I actually could tank, I was just clueless as to how), and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. I certainly did.

Sorry about the long post, but I felt I had to chip in on this discussion to honor those random group members, whose names I don't remember but who gave me the exact opposite experience to that described in OP.
  • stefaan.de.wasch1b16_ESO
You got a point @paradoxorganisationb16_ESO , but as an example in WoW, I never cared and actualy encouraged people to take along undergeared healers as I knew I could catch their slack in performance... It got those healers better gear and they became better and over time they caught up in performance...

I always hated people that demanded people had "the gear" ... They were there to get "the gear" but how could they get it, if people never took them along...

I see these games as social games, and making new friends is always nicer then having low repair costs or a new shiny virtual weapon... Friends tend to last longer then most games do :)

The root of the issue is that the "elitest" players you speak of aren't simply worried about wiping. They are worried about completing the content as quickly as possible so that they can repeat it.

It's all about trying to be as efficient as possible because that means higher chance of higher reward.

So, the real solution would be to not award players for zerging content as quickly as possible.
