Actually, breaking a lockpick does NOT exit the lockpicking screen. It takes a few seconds to grab another lockpick though. I always pick locks manually, and only lose one lockpick about every week or so. But it never exits the lockpickscreen when I do break one.Chest stealing is not polite behaviour but it's what zos wanted. Otherwise, when we break a lockpick we would immediately be able to use another one, without exiting the mini game screen.

This occurs if one is attempting to force the lock.

Then... maybe... don't force it?
Some people are rude like that, just ignore them and move along. It is not worth the time. The only time it really pisses me off, is when I am running towards a resource/chest, and they run directly through me to take it first. In that case they 100% know they are taking something someone else was going for, and there is no excuse.
Personally I always walk away when I see someone go towards a resource or chest(it's actually funny if we both walk away at the same time). It does sometimes happen that me and another player both run around a corner at the same time without seeing eachother, in that case I always feel bad when I take it. And I would never wait at a chest for someone to fail(most players don't), though sometimes it may look like that as I didn't see that player near it and simply approached the chest. But once I see them, I walk away, doesn't matter if they fail or not.
This is also an indirect cause of add-ons, some players have an optimized farming route and will feel any resource/chest on that route is theirs. Even if you were going to that resource/chest first, or if you are fighting the mob near it.
Just don't let it bother you, things like this happen sometimes. But luckily enough, they hardly ever happen.
PS: Keep in mind, sometimes it is an accident. As lag can sometimes show players in different places, due to a few seconds delay.
PPS: If I see someone is a CP 160-500, I always point chests out to them, so they can take it. As they might still be gearing. (below CP 160 I take the chest unless they are already going for it ofcourse, because it is pointless to spawn the gear at such a low level)

I've seen this a lot in Craglorn during this event, I see resource nodes that others have picked over and left half empty - I'm farming on a max level crafter, over 160CP I shouldn't be seeing level 1 nodes and yet there they are.
Oh look, a cornflower... No wait, it's crawlers and no flower etc. Just what everyone wants to get /s

I don't know, but I've been told, that it doesn't affect the respawn rate, so it isn't like it will sit there forever until someone takes the worms.
I always take the worms in any case - I need them for fishing.
And people who leave mundane runes? Don't they know they are leaving 1K gold behind?

I doubt the chests create much strife between players. I think most of us realize the mechanic of locking a player out of a chest for a few seconds is to give others a chance at it if we fail.
Besides, such a suggestion would mean a player could control the chest for hours if they had enough picks and were a bad lock picker.

I have been playing about a month now.
In that time I have had no less than 4 people run beside me while I am opening a chest hoping I fail the lock pick so they can try and steal it and one person run up on me while I am clearing out mobs to get to a chest and use the opportunity to run right past me while I am finishing them off to steal it.
I can understand that mindset if this we a WoW PVP server and we were on opposite sides at which point it would have an RP perspective to it but you would more likely just kill me and take it or something.
First time I actually called someone out in zone chat for their [snip] behavior only to have one or two people chime in about how "It isn't against the rules" like it's just fine.
Why do so many people on here just seem to have no manners or consideration for others when it comes to stuff like that? If I see you clearing out a group to get to a resource it's yours, if I see you opening a chest, even if you fail, its yours. Is the greed just that big of a thing on here?
