After further review "WE" have decided to move this thread to another category that is more appropriate for the topic in discussion.

It's for players of ESO to talk about ESO.

1. Things get moved to appropriate categories if they are posted in the wrong category.

2. Whilst it would be nice to get more interaction from the people who make the decisions, they're under no obligation to interact with us.

3. You're entitled to your opinion, other people are entitled to theirs. If you just want an echochamber where only your opinions are heard and agreed with, maybe create a subreddit or a discord.

4. You're right. It doesn't apply here, because this is a forum created by a company, and you have to abide by the rules of that company. Rules that you agreed to when you agreed to the terms and conditions. Freedom of speech isn't freedom of consequence.

Gives you a place to see info/talk with other people about the game which is appreciated for people like me that have zero desire to use social media.

Gives players a place to read the patch notes and view @BenevolentBowd threads about the golden/luxury vendors each week.

If you aren't using the RECENT feature of the forums, you aren't using the forums correctly.

Free Speech is a GOVERNMENT thing, not a private company. The sooner people understand that, the sooner we can lose these nonsense complaints around it.

Ahh the good old bli**ard copy paste mail response. If you played one of their games you know what i mean.

The "you agreed to our terms" argument only shrinks the playerbase. Everyone who sees a problem with the game starts leaving because they see their opinion will not be taken seriously. This is an online game. It needs a lot of players to be enjoyable for anyone. Dont play it if you dont like it approach kills the playerbase and its always cringe to see it come from another player.

So what is the deal with the ESO Forum?

Firstly, the aims of the forums is to foster ideas and share knowledge among people - to grow a community.
What a lot of people tend towards is the ideology of 'a forum is a soapbox where i can get grievances off my chest'. For example, a dialogue leaning towards one side of an agenda (like jabs) would be a bad thing if the opposing viewpoints were not allowed to post as well - it would lead to the officials who read the forum to get a skewed idea of the issues and maybe change their design plans.

Freedom of speech is not the idea that 'you can say what you like, no matter who it insults nor who disagrees with you' it is simply the ability to speak openly and the GOVERNMENT wont get you for it. If a private citizen disagrees with your point of view and kicks you off their property, you wouldn't expect to be able to call the cops and have them bust down the door so you can continue on their private property.

No, freedom of speech isn't a thing here because this isn't the government - it's a private company who follow the laws of the land. Where ZoS are, there's no law demanding they let anyone say anything they like without repercussion... that's called tyranny and is not good. Also ZoS let a lot of complaints against them flow, in the hope it leads to a positive outcome... and they only shut down that which devolves into muck slinging... which is far better than many companies would consider doing.

(Oh, also, the things get moved because they're subjective and there is no objective measurement possible for them so while you may disagree with their assessment it's a person making the assessment not a machine, so there is no direct right or wrong answer to it).

The forums are a mid-game activity. Most posters have played enough to understand the game and have some good suggestions, but not quite long enough to realize that nobody cares.

Remember when you were 5 years old and you thought you were playing that video game in the mall? You hadn't put a token in, but every so often the car on the screen would coincidentally move when you turned the wheel. The forums are like that. Enjoy!

What's the problem with open, honest, factually accurate discussions? Even if the topic might not reflect great on the company, aren't free discussions the best way to become aware of and fix problems?

Nothing is necessarily wrong with that. But that isn't free speech, as ZOS is not a government institution.

This is a private forum, and Zos can manage it how they see fit. And frankly, limiting bashing for the sake of bashing is not inherently a bad thing. And many, many, many posts in these forums devolve into bashing other users or Zos for the sake of pats on the back from other community members.

It serves no purpose, provides no actionable feedback. It's just a gripe fest. And those are, more often than not, the discussions that get shut down. Not the ones with actual criticism and legitimate discussion. There are plenty of threads, daily, that discuss problems with the game and the company that stay open as they remain civil. But, it is also a constant that posters who only open threads to bash are the ones always complaining when their threads get shut down. It's always the same tones and direction taken with the thread, and bunch of useless ranting that provides zero value for anyone in the community.

I don't think a developer sponsored forum should be a place to just bash the game. I really don't want to see another "After x years I am quitting, and here's some bile on my way out" thread. Or another "U35 isn't what I wanted so I am quitting and so are all my friends" thread. Or "here's my nasty review of this silly game" thread.

Constructive criticism is good. But plain old game bashing is dispiriting. Go review the game on steam. The forums are for people who want to play and discuss it.
