Gender equality for companions?

    Bastian is best man ♥️

Best companion at the moment. Can't stand Mirri, doesn't matter she's okay with stealing, I just don't have Bastian around on my stealing characters. He's kind, supportive and approves of my obsession with books! And not bad on the eyes either.
I'm used to most games being swarmed with male characters all the time, so I can handle a surfeit of girls for one year. And so can all of you.

I'm much more unimpressed by the total lack of Saxhleel representation. Where my People of the Root at?

Crossing fingers the companions after these will be an argonian. Was hoping we'd get one now, but hopefully next time instead.

While I personally don't mind Mirri that much, I also like Bastian much more than her, and for all the reasons you just stated. Bastian's the kind of guy who would cook a meal for his girlfriend or offer to help a friend move without even needing to be asked, sure he gets a whole thing about cheese, but it's easy to work around his dietary restrictions. I also find having a companion tank to be by far the best use of them, since they won't pull mobs all over the place and instead hold the big ones still. And he's quite good at tanking for the most part, with the obvious restrictions on the kind of content he can do.

Also, I'm much more likely to accidentally touch an insect than steal or make a meal. Those actions are much more deliberate, so for me personally, Bastian is less testy than Mirri. I know some people play on PC with an add-on that prevents touching bugs, so it's the opposite for them.

I don't know, maybe they could improve companions system instead. The current companions are useless now, add more companions won't make them useful.

Eh, would be nice to have it equal
I would have loved a new male companion. Bastian isn't really the type I see my characters having around as a companion and having another male to choose from would have been nice.

Perhaps they could offer companions with gender-neutral names and you could choose from either a male or female version at the beginning of the quest line? It doesn't seem like that much more work, and it would make a lot more people happy.

    @ZOS_Kevin

Noooo, they are characters with their own names, genders, personalities and hairstyles which you may not touch! Seriously, I think that is totally unnecessary and undermines each companion being their own character. And it sounds like almost twice as much work to me — different models and voice acting at least. No, I would much rather any such effort go toward creating additional full
companions for us to choose from.

As long as each companion has a good questline, good voicing and interactions, and can be somewhat helpful, then I am happy to let the artists/creators do their thing and have their vision come to fruition

We can't gear them properly, we have a limited choice of skills to give them, we can't direct them to fight, there are limited conversation options, they can't res... what on earth does gender have to do with it?

Quite simply, people feel more comfortable in different situations with the same or opposite sex, which certainly applies to a game as well. Now the possibilities are limited here by the imbalance.

ATM it looks like we're gonna get two more females, leaving us with three females and only one male.
Personally this kinda bums me out a bit, as I prefer male companions when possible in games.
    What's your thoughts?

My thoughts are having some 'issue' with the the " gender" of a bunch of Pixels on a screen... in an Imaginary GAME ... lemme repeat that ... Imaginary GAME .... is flat out ridiculous.

If this is what we have to complain about, things must be going Very Well.

Not a particularly well thought-out poll - where is the 'rather have more males'? The first 3 are more or less the same thing. Anyway, yes, I voted for a fully equal split. I like to use either, but my hopes for a nice khajiit tomcat are sadly dashed.
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

If we will never get ability to fully customize our companions and only get premade NPCs... I would love some companions for players who are on darker side of ESO. For example, I would be very excited to see old and serious argonian necromancer (with some dark sence of humor in some situations, but that should be implemented tastefully and not over the top), who would have pale skin and white eyes, and preferably member of Dark Brotherhood. Their gender wouldn't matter: male will be very cool (there is no such NPC character in ESO so far), female would pleasantly remind me of Sulahkeesh (and she is one of my favourite NPCs).
    JLEP9D3.jpg

Or some serious Dead-Water argonian, who would be good fighter (and who would not be disturbed by criminal activities).
    eOriDgA.jpg

When I first heard about companion system when Blackwood chapter was revealed, I got immediate idea for my perfect companion, or rather my apprentice  I even bought the mask pack specially to make my companion look like:
    dVZetPa.jpg

Later, when we finally learned about many limitation in companion's look, I was extremely disappointed :'( I don't care what gender they would be, I simply wanted to use hats and polymorphs/personalities on them. Because my second perfect companion was supposed to be Skeleton thrall (using Beast personality for extra fun).

Nothing of that is possible, sadly. Also, my characters can look really strange, so simple-looking companions of any gender won't compliment their look at all :(

Mirri looks simple, and I stopped using her after I unlocked her passive bonus.

    S8EOKvW.jpg

Bastian looks simple too, but luckily he has very bold body art.

    RQ5kFHE.jpg

Even if I don't enjoy any of them so far, Companion is needed to display my second mount. So for now I use Bastian.

I am not excited about looks of upcoming companions... And Breton girl might be very similar to Bastian in personality, so she better have some nice body art too if she wants to compete :smirk:
If Khajiit girl will be cool with criminal activities, I will replace Bastian with her. If she will have suitable personality, I might even enjoy her presence :)

It doesn't bother me, it's a game, not real life. But.. that said, I use primarily female characters, so more female followers would be cool in my book. Besides, Bastian is kind of annoying compared to Mirri - at least she has some funny lines.

Somehow I do not find gender an problem. That a companions backstory may require gender based story lines is rather logicial.

Story first, gender issues second, please.

It makes me feel like ZOS is trying to court the straight male gamer community. I realize the female companions are probably more popular, but I would appreciate a close to 50-50 gender balance a lot. It's not a trivial issue for me, personally.

All I care about is when we're getting an Argonian companion. Couldn't care less what gender they are. The only thing that will matter is if I can give them a big sword and of they'll be good with it.

    It carries stuff
IT DOES NOT GET IN MY WAY WHEN I AM TRYING TO JUMP, PICK UP TREASURE, PICK A LOCK
It sings to me (my choice of music)

I don't care as long as it says roughly equal. With only four, hard to tell. If the next one or two are females, then I'd be wondering.

(honestly, I wouldn't mind all females, maybe because Bastian is such an uptight jerk. But I figure roughly equal will please more gamers)
